Limited (AXA). The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The results of this study indicate that PT AMFS has implemented GCG in an integrated manner in all business processes. This is evidenced by the transformation in 10 line areas, namely digital services, distribution, health and protection, human resources and culture, information technology systems, data, efficiency, customer experience, and offers (documents and products). PT AMFS also applies the Three Lines of Defense principle to an internal control system that is integrated with risk management. The effectiveness and efficiency of the corporate governance structure depends on different governance bodies within the organization. As crucial parts of good corporate governance they provide constituting, monitoring and controlling tasks concerning the risk management and internal control system. These corporate governance mechanisms include the internal control function (IAF) and the audit committee (AC). Based on a dataset of 550 responses from U.S. internal auditors, our study explores empirically the IAF’s contribution to good corporate governance. Our results suggest that the IAF constitutes a central element of the governance structure. Furthermore, an intensive interaction between the IAF and the AC is positively linked with the efficiency and effectiveness of the governance processes, internal controls and risk management.

This Article examines the concept of corporate governance and its goals in People’s Credit Banks (PCBs). In 2015, Indonesian Financial Services Authority (IFSA) issued two main regulations on corporate governance and risk management for People’s Credit Banks (PCBs). This investigation shows that in these two regulations ISFA simply defines corporate governance as the implementation of transparency, accountability, responsibility, independence and fairness (TARIF) principles by PCBs. Basically, such kind of conceptualization is not appropriate as it does not define the concept of corporate governance itself, but rather, it just reaffirms the general principles of good corporate governance. Meanwhile, IFSA does not clearly provide the goals of corporate governance in PCBs. It is recommended that IFSA should reconceptualize the definition of corporate governance by focusing more on the function of PBCs boards. Meanwhile, the goals of corporate governance in PCBs should deal more with the achievement of long-term success of PCBs.

PurposeBusiness wargames represent an alternative approach to challenge organisations to uncover internal capabilities through competitive actions designed to counteract external threats and address strategic mismatches. Internal capabilities uncovered as a result of actions taken during a competitive wargame aims to replicate market conditions found in competitive industries. These outcomes are difficult to achieve using many popular strategy design methods. The purpose of this study is to examine the use of war game-style activities in formulating corporate strategy that incorporate the natural behaviors of the leadership team in creating strategic plans.Design/methodology/approachUsing a case study from the banc assurance industry, the authors review a wargame process composed of two competing teams; the banc assurance organisation and an unincorporated joint venture between a banking institution and an insurance company. The goal of each entity was to develop strategy to improve both customer satisfaction and market share at the expense of each other given a finite set of resources. Success was judged using a simple set of metrics defined by both a consumer team and an independent umpire.FindingsConsumers of financial services are price sensitive and highly brand loyal. Unwillingness to switch brands to a prevailing competitor or other emerging (Fintech) institution persists to a threshold of a price and/or value differential of 15 to 20 per cent. The results highlight potential deficiencies in the proposed banc assurance strategy through the observation of customer behaviours and inefficient resource use.Originality/valueThe wargame approach conducted in a realistic landscape revealed internal capabilities not otherwise evident. The impact of authentic human behaviours in setting business strategy was captured which is very difficult to replicate using more formal scenario analysis and planning.
