A study of the reaction of inelastic scattering of 14.1 MeV neutrons by 23 Na nuclei was carried out at the TANGRA facility using the tagged neutron method. In this work, the energies of visible g-transitions are determined, the yields of g -quanta are obtained, the angular distributions of g -quanta for 23 Na are measured. The results obtained are in good agreement with the data of other published experimental works.

The characteristic gamma radiation from the interaction of 14.1 MeV neutrons with a natural silicon sample is investigated with Tagged Neutron Method (TNM). The anisotropy of gamma-ray emission of 1.779 MeV was measured at 11 azimuth angles with a step of ∠15°. The present results are in good agreement with some recent experimental data.


Recent investigations have shown that the inelastic scattering of electrons in gases exhibits some very interesting phenomena. In previous papas we have described the angular distribution of the scattering of electrons which have lost a discrete amount of energy. Papers I and II described preliminary results which established the existence of diffraction effects at large angles in a number of gases. In Paper III the measurements were carried out over a range of velocities lower than those previously studied, results being obtained for incident electron energies down to within a few volts of the excitation potential. angular distributions were obtained for the inelastic scattering of electrons in hydrogen, helium, and argon between the angles 10° and 155°. The present paper describes the extension of the measurements to methane, nitrogen, neon and mercury vapour.

Double differential cross sections at six angles ranging from 45° to 143° have been measured for the 12C(e,p)e′ reaction. The proton energy ranged from 15.6 to 17.2 MeV at an incident electron energy of 200 MeV. At the backward angles our results are in good agreement with data reported by Vysotskaya and Afanas'ev but for forward angles the results are lower.

Angular distributions of the analyzing power and cross sections have been measured for the elastic and inelastic scattering of 25.25 MeV protons exciting the K = 0+ ground-state band in 28Si. Good agreement with experiment is obtained in the coupled-channels formalism on the basis of the rotational model with a quadrupole deformation β2 = −0.40 (oblate) and a hexadecapole deformation β4 = +0.15. The calculations show the great sensitivity of the experimental results to both the magnitude and sign of the quadrupole and hexadecapole deformations. Equivalent fits of the data were obtained either by keeping the deformation length of the various deformed terms of the optical potential constant (δ0 = β0R0 = βIRI = βLSRLS) or by increasing the deformation of the spin–orbit optical potential relative to the central potential by a factor of 1.5 (βLS = 1.5βcent).

Analyzing powers and cross sections have been measured for elastic and inelastic scattering of 40 MeV polarized protons from 90Zr and 92Zr. The analysis has been carried out in the DWBA within the framework of the macroscopic and microscopic models. Furthermore, the coupled-channels calculations using the vibrational model and the full Thomas form for the spin–orbit potential give a very good description for both the cross sections and the analyzing powers of the iow-lying2+, 3−, 5−, and 4+ states in 92Zr and the 2+ and 3− in 90Zr. The cross section and analyzing power for the first 2+ state in these nuclei were compared with previous results at 30 and 20.3 MeV, and from this comparison a certain energy dependence of the relative strength of the spin–orbit deformation to the central deformation could be observed. Microscopic model calculations with tensor and spin–orbit components included in the projectile–target real interaction and with an exact treatment of knock-on' exchange have been performed for the 2+ states in these nuclei. An attempt has also been made in order to include the imaginary component in the N–N interaction. For these calculations, rather good agreement was obtained especially for the 2+ state in 92Zr but poor agreement for 90Zr. Finally, valence plus core polarization calculations have also been done and showed a very good agreement between theory and experiment for those 2+ transitions.

Prompt neutron decay constant of CFBR-II (China’s Fast Burst Reactor) was measured by the randomly pulsed neutron method when the reactor was at the reactivity of −0.1$. A liquid scintillation detector was used to detect the leakage neutrons and the timing uncertainty of the detection system was less than 3ns. The detector and the Cf-252 fast ionization chamber were placed at several positions. Totally 5 prompt neutron timing distribution curves were obtained and the prompt neutron decay constant was 0.610us−1 in average with the uncertainty of 0.030us−1, which was in good agreement with the M.C. calculation.

The yields and angular distributions of photoalphas from seven elements in the region Z = 22–30 were investigated experimentally. Strong anisotropies in the angular distributions from the even–even nuclei were observed. Improved statistical model calculations using the known spins and parities of the low lying levels of the even–even daughters give good agreement with the experimental results.

Elastic and inelastic scattering of protons on 7Li, 9Be, and 12C have been studied, using the 100-MeV proton beam from the McGill synchrocyclotron. Differential cross sections for the various groups of scattered protons were measured over an angular range of 5° to 90° (lab). For proton groups resulting from a quadrupole excitation in the target nucleus, the angular distribution was found to increase at scattering angles less than 10°. Angular distributions corresponding to an octupole excitation were observed to decrease at small angles. The results have been compared with existing data in this energy region.

Measurements of the excitation and ionization of helium, neon, and argon by positrons of energies between threshold and 50 eV, utilising time-of-flight energy loss spectrometry, are reported. Scattering into forward angles up to 60° is observed and the measurements suggest that sharp forward lobes exist in the angular distributions of positrons scattered following atomic excitation. Multiple scattering corrections to the measurements are described. Comparison is made with the inelastic scattering of electrons by the same atoms, and connections drawn between the present results and those of the recent complementary studies of Griffith et al. and Charlton et al.

The elastic scattering angular distributions of weakly bound nucleus$^{8}$Li on $^{7}$Li, $^{9}$Be, $^{12}$C, $^{13}$C, $^{14}$N,$^{27}$Al, $^{51}$V, $^{58}$Ni, and $^{208}$Pb are analyzed atvarious incident energies. For this purpose, the real potential isgenerated for nine different density distributions of the $^{8}$Linucleus by using the double folding model within the optical model.The theoretical results are in good agreement with the experimentaldata. In our study, also, new and practical sets of imaginarypotentials for the investigated densities are derived.
