Exhaustive Search» organized at the Leningrad Electrotechnical Institute (LETI) by R.I. Freidson (1942-2018) is considered. The seminar opened in 1982, one of its main aims being the development of scientific ideas of S. Yu. Maslov (1939-1982). The meetings continued regularly until the beginning of 1990es. The historico-scientific context is outlined, including the links with other contemporary seminars, such as the S.Yu. Maslov’s seminar and the seminar on mathematical logic at the Leningrad Branch of the Steklov Mathematical Institute (LOMI); the ideas developed at the seminar and main results represented by scientific publications are considered. The pedagogical role of the seminar (its formative influence on young researchers), the organizational talent of R.I. Freidson and the effect of his personality on seminar’s creative atmosphere are considered as well.

This work is dedicated to the role of research culture in promotion of scientific articles. Analysis is conducted on the most common errors or inaccuracies in writing the scientific articles. Definition is given to the research culture; the variants of derogation from research culture are described. At the same time, in comprehension of the role of research culture in scientific publications on social sciences, of particular importance is the experience of researchers, peculiarities of their social mentality, and engagement in the scientific context on the subject matter, as well as consonance of their scientific approach to one or another research school or direction. Maintenance of gnoseological status of the research is also of holds much significance. The following conclusions were formulated: 1) research culture is associated with the type of social mentality, which is of prime importance for the works on social sciences, thus, the articles dedicated to the topical social problems should reflect the specificity of social mentality; 2) command of the norms and rules of the Russian literary language also indicates the research culture, the authors of the article often do not pay due attention to this factor, and thus it affects the fate of their publication, necessitating revision; 3) research culture correlates with the questions of ethics in the research.

The article describes the structural characteristics of the urban communities of the city of Krasnodar and the related features that impact their participation in urban conflicts. This issue is considered in a number of scientific publications, but there is a need to expand the empirical base of such studies. On the base of expert interviews conducted with both city activists, their counterparty (representatives of the municipal government) and external observers (journalists), the parameters of urban communities functioning in the process of their interaction with other conflict actors are revealed. The communities characteristics such as the predominantly territorial principle of formation, the overlap of online and offline communications in their activities, the presence of a “core” with a relatively low number of permanent participants and others are determined. Their activities are dominated by neighborly and civilian models of participation in conflicts. The possibilities of realizing one’s own interests through political interactions (participation in elections, the activities of representative bodies of power, political parties) are not yet sufficiently understood. Urban communities, as a rule, operate within the framework of conventional forms of participation in solving urgent problems, although in some cases it is possible to use confrontational methods, in particular, protest ones. In this regard, the most often used compromise, with the desire for cooperation, a strategy of behavior in interaction with opponents. The limited activating role of conflicts in the activities of communities has been established. The weak manifestation of the civil and especially political component in their activities determines the preservation of a low level of political subjectivity. This factor restrains the growth of urban communities resources and the possibility of applying competitive strategies in interaction with city government and business.

The role of a forest sector in the transition to a circular economy (CE) is critical. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to summarize the main findings of the most important published articles and to provide insights on the interdisciplinary space at the interface of concepts related to a forest-based CE. Moreover, it attempts to assess the challenges raised from adopting the CE in forest sector. Through a systematic literature review, 69 scientific publications were selected and evaluated by two sights: (i) a descriptive analysis and (ii) a cluster analysis of the keywords related to the forest-based CE. The study highlights the need for additional survey on optimizing the interaction between forest ecosystem services and circular economy. Further discussion is also needed about the relations of the key factors associated with the forest-based circular economy, as they emerged from the cluster analysis and the co-occurrence network map.

The role of organic chemistry and other chemical disciplines in the system of training qualified personnel for the pharmaceutical industry is indisputable. In what direction is chemistry developing in the modern world? What innovative directions does chemistry offer to drug developers? Can a robot synthesize a new compound? How to achieve practically significant results of scientific research? How may the obtained results be published in highly rated journals? These and many other topics were widely discussed at the XII International Conference of Students and Young Scientists in Chemistry «Mendeleev-2021» held in the fall of 2021. This article is published to attract young researchers’ attention to topical issues at the interface of chemistry and pharmacy and assist them in realizing their creative scientific potential.
