This paper puts forward the concept of CAT in its relatively broad sense and conducts a comparative study of the two major types of CAT systems presently available through their roles as assistants. Besides, it attaches great importance to its educational implication, esp. integrating CAT method into our traditional translation practice mode and holds that learners in the information age shall be skilled at CAT so as to meet new challenges.

<p>The first half of 20th century saw two translators coming from the west and east respectively choose the same translation strategy to carry out their syntactic experiments in their translation practice. The two renowned translators are Ezra Pound and Lu Xun. Staying in different historical contexts and encountered with the dominant target poetics they were dissatisfied with, both Pound and Lu Xun attempted to fulfill their syntactic experiments by signifying the syntactic differences of the source texts through the use of foreignization strategy. Although attracting many negative comments because of the unfluent translation resulting from them, Pound’ and Lu Xun’ syntactic experiments exert great influence on the development of their target languages, further contributing a lot to the development of their target culture. This paper will make a comparative study of Pound’s and Lu Xun’s syntactic experiments by exploring their motives, elaborating their translation principles and strategies, and analyzing their influence and significance.</p>

The importance to educational practice of linguistic research in the Caribbean has never been underplayed. Although linguistic descriptions have a validity all their own, it is in their application to educational practice that they can best serve our societies. Bailey, in the conclusion to her definitive work "Jamaica Creole Syntax", comments that the work should help "provide the basis for a thorough comparative study of the two languages on which alone satisfactory English language texts for the island's schools should be based." This paper hopes to look at the phenomenon of code-switching in Jamaican Creole by examining in detail certain actual speech situations, with a view to discovering how the classroom operation can benefit from first-hand knowledge of how situations tend to condition the individual's choice of speech style.

The present article aims to compare the performance in students with Attention Deficit Disorder to those who do not present it, in tasks of reading comprehension and text production carried out by students attending the fourth grade of primary education. This quantitative, non-experimental comparative study aims to provide evidence regarding the way in which this condition limits the learning outcomes in the tasks of comprehension and production of texts, language, and communication. One the main findings of this research was that students with attention deficit disorder showed lower reading comprehension performance than their peers who do not presented this diagnosis. This same tendency was observed in the results of the texts production tasks. This implies that the disorder affecting the attention in students with it interferes in the process of language learning. This generates challenges and new questions for those who do research in this topic; and for the case of teachers, it presents new challenges when planning the teaching in order to adapt it to the specific requirements of these students in the area of language.

The aim of this article is to consider the issue of quality in translation. Specifically, the question under consideration is whether quality assurance in relation to translation is feasible and, if so, what some of the implications for translation theory, translation practice and the teaching of translation would be. To provide a backdrop against which the issue may be discussed, I present an overview of the two areas which seem most likely to hold potential answers, viz., that of translation theory and that of quality management. Section 1. gives a brief outline of some contributions to translation theory which would seem likely to be of interest in this connection and section 2. gives a linguist’s introduction to the part of the area of quality management which I consider relevant for present purposes. Section 3. is devoted to the case study of a small translation firm which has been certified under the ISO 9001 standard, and section 4. discusses the implications which quality management seems to hold for the field of translation in a broad sense. Finally, section 5. concludes the article.

The writing of names or signatures has great importance due to its use in authentication, validation, and authorization of documents. Moreover, handwritten signatures present an aura of personality and make an impression on many people. But now, with the emergence of new technologies, a variety of electronic writing media such as digital tablets and pens are being used to produce writings and signatures; and the conventional way to produce the writing using pen and paper is waning. With the changing ways of writing and signature production, the means of producing forged writing or signature are also bound to change. This has brought new challenges for handwriting examiners. In the present study, a comparative analysis of electronically captured signatures with pen-paper signatures has been performed to study the effect of changes in writing media. Signature samples were taken from the same subjects on paper and electronic pads. The similarities and differences with respect to class and line quality features between both signatures were analysed. It was observed that despite differences between the signatures produced by the same author, it is still possible to establish the authorship of signatures in the case of electronic signatures.

Although literary translation and aesthetics belong to different categories, they are inextricably linked. No matter what kind of language is the target of literary translation, it will be branded with relevant aesthetic thoughts to a great extent. This phenomenon can be seen everywhere in the field of literary translation in the East and the West. There are similarities between Chinese and Western aesthetics, for example, their origins are related to philosophy, and they are inseparable from literary aesthetics; there are also differences certainly, such as different psychological origins, different characteristics of development track, different attention to beauty, different methodology and so on. Through the comparative analysis of the similarities and differences between the two sides in aesthetic ideas, this paper aims to enhance its guiding role in translation practice.
