The mixtures containing polypropylene are used in the industrial sector as material for bags, chairs, household items, and can even be used in cell phone batteries. The interest in creating this material is due to its low density compared to more common materials such as iron and ceramic, in addition to its good corrosion resistance and reasonable mechanical properties in environments without high temperature and pressure. In order to diversify the mechanical and viscous properties, different types of polymers were used, such as lactic polyacid, which has beneficial properties for recycling such as degradation. It is a challenge to control the right proportion and use additives and plasticizers to control the desired properties. The methods used to measure the properties of polypropylene and polylactic acid mixtures with different types of additives, compatibilizers and plasticizers were DMA, TGA, tensile, DSC and rheology tests following ASTM standards. The results were promising, observing different mechanical and viscosity properties for the PP/PLA/PP-g-MA/D mixture in different proportions. Thus concluding that the different products have varied application in the industry.

AISI 316L is widely used for implantation in orthopedic surgery due to its good corrosion resistance, mechanical properties and low cost. However, AISI 316L is not well suited for biocompatibility with the body, so implant material with AISI 316L can’t be used for a long time. One way to improve the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of AISI 316L is to perform a surface treatment such as sputtering. This study discusses the effect of deposition sputtering TiN of 60, 90, 120 and 150 minutes on roughness and surface hardness at a ratio of argon gas and nitrogen to 80% Ar:20% N2. The results of the surface roughness value of the TiN sputtering layer deposited to AISI 316L for 60, 90, 120, and 150 minutes were 0.02 μm, 0.04 μm, 0.06 μm, and 0.04 μm respectively. This shows that the coating time of TiN in AISI 316L has no significant influence on value of surface roughness. Surface hardness results at 60, 90, 120, and 150 minutes were obtained with 268 HVN, 275 HVN, 278 HVN and 282 HVN. Increased hardness value, as the TiN thin layer has a higher hardness value compared to AISI 316L. The longer the deposition time, the more layers are formed and the layer becomes thicker. With the thickness of the layer, the density at the grain boundary increases. Because the higher density leads to grain growth, in which form micropores.

CP-Ti, Ti 6A l 4V (ELI), and Ti 6Al 7Nb are often used for manufacturing osteosynthesis products or implants. However, researches have revealed that Al and V can have detrimental effects on the human body. Therefore, several Al- and V-free near-α and (α+β) titanium alloys have been developed on the basis of CP-Ti Grade 4+ (Ti 0.4O 0.5Fe 0.08C). They should possess similar or better mechanical properties than Ti 6Al 4V (ELI) combined with an improved biocompatibility and good corrosion resistance. O, C, Fe, Au, Si, Nb, or Mo have been used as alloying elements, which are either already present in the human body or are biocompatible. Several of the studied alloys show a strength and ductility fulfilling the requirements of Ti 6Al 4V ELI as specified in ASTM F136. For instance, Ti 0.44O 0.5Fe 0.08C 2.0Mo exhibits a YTS of approx. 1005 MPa, an UTS of approx. 1015 MPa, and an elongation at rupture of at least 17%. Therefore, one or more of the studied alloys are promising candidates for replacing Ti 6Al 4V ELI in osteosynthesis and implant applications.

Abstract This publication discusses the issues of safety enhancing technological innovations in mining industry, in the context of company operation risk. Different types of risks characteristic of this sector have been indicated, and particularly the idea to perceive the activities in safety enhancing area in aggragate mining as Corporate Social Responsibility activities and to use them to create corporate value was put forth. The base for the discussion was the studies on a new gasifier used to sunder rock blocks. There are various appliances used for sundering layers of rock blocks worldwide, operating with primary expolosives. The alternative for these devices are ones generating energy as the result of deflagration of pyrotechnic compositions, producing vast amounts of gases characterized of high temperature and pressure and resulting in sundering layers of rock block from the whole of the block, without causing microcracks or crevices neither in the whole of the block nor in the sundered layer.
