Social Innovation has been considered as the main policy agenda in various developed countries throughout the world. Social Innovation is said to make a massive contribution to the social, economic and technological progress of nations. Therefore, it addresses critical issues, among which are poor economic growth, massive unemployment, poor social health, poor living conditions, poor education systems and poor technological advancement. The aim of this paper is to present an empirical insight on the impact of social innovation on strategic knowledge management processes i.e. knowledge creation, knowledge transfers and knowledge application. The main data for this study was collected through survey questionnaires via personally administered and email from 200 project leaders of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) education institutionsindustry-community partnership project. The data were collected from December 2018 till December 2019. The data was analyzed using SPSS version 19. The findings indicate a significant positive relationship between strategic knowledge management processes i.e. knowledge creation, knowledge transfer and knowledge application and social innovation.

The current knowledge-innovation led economy requires a new paradigm of innovation to address critical issues, among others, namely: poor social health, poor living conditions, poor education systems, public income inequality, massive unemployment, poor economic growth and lack of new technological advances. Thus this paper explores the concept of social innovation in the context of strategic knowledge management processes.  This paper suggested that social innovation is an outstanding solution in addressing social, economic and technological issues highlighted above, because the outcome of social innovation encompasses social, economic and technological payoffs concurrently. Strategic knowledge management processes, creates superior knowledge resource that is regarded as a new and novel solution that can be embedded into products, processes and services which in turn leads to the outcome of improving the quality of people’s life, stimulate economic growth and enhance technological advances i.e. social innovation. The old paradigm of innovation that refers to technological innovation is seen inadequate and obsolete in dealing with aforesaid social, economic and technological issues because it is very much focused and centred in fulfilling private needs. Therefore, social innovation and strategic knowledge management processes must be seriously considered by the policy makers, private sectors and also public institutions given the massive contribution that it might bring forward to many nations’ core aspirations.

As organizations in Singpore respond to the pressures of globalization, the adoption of knowledge management practices becomes more prevalent. In a hurry to implement this new business paradigm, organizations may have overlooked the influence of the cultural context which is commonly considered one of the pillars of knowledge management in a western-oriented organization. This paper examines what was overlooked by Singapore organizations while moving towards knowledge management. Specifically, it studies the impact of organizational culture on knowledge management processes. A review of literature shows that there is a relationship between cultural factors and knowledge management processes. This relationship is reflected in a research model that helps to answer research questions and to formulate hypotheses for testing. The result indicates that knowledge management should consider not just the technological aspects of implementation but also the cultural, leadership and contextual aspects of an organization.

This study aims to examine the impact of ethics in the knowledge management in organizational development in Botswana. Importance of ethics in knowledge management is growing at a faster pace of late; still some employees tend to be unethical. As organization consists of different people with different ethical cultures, it is essential that organizations should make their employees follow ethical principles while creating, sharing and using both explicit and tacit knowledge to have optimum organizational development. Respecting ethics by human resources helps to improve implementation of knowledge management. The chapter main focus is on Management of ethics in an organization which influences knowledge management processes and subsequently influence organizations development. To locate ethics impact on knowledge management for organizational development, the scholars employed a survey strategy where respondents indicated that there is a significant impact of ethics in knowledge management for organizational development.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine knowledge management interrelationships in higher education institutions and to assess the impact of the university’s culture on knowledge management processes: creation, dissemination, exchange and application. Design/methodology/approach The proposed model establishes the relationships between organizational culture (OC) and knowledge management processes in a single framework. The study used the organizational culture assessment instrument to determine the culture type and used structural equation modeling to assess the underlying relationships between knowledge management process and OC. Findings The results of the factor analysis used in this study suggest that adhocracy organizational culture, in which an organization is characterized by emphasis on individual initiative and employee empowerment, may not necessarily affect all knowledge management processes equally. In particular, an organization’s culture principally influences the knowledge creation process, followed by knowledge exchange, in a public university setting. Originality/value The study provides a comprehensive outlook on the effect of adhocracy culture in higher education on the knowledge management process through the lens of one cultural context. In addition, this is the first study that explores the OC effect on knowledge management process in a Saudi public university.


The main objective of the study was to examine the effect of knowledge management processes on organisational effectiveness in Nigerian deposit money banks. Specifically, the study examines knowledge creation, acquisition, sharing and storage and organisational effectiveness in Nigerian deposit money banks. The data for the study was generated through a questionnaire which yielded 359 valid responses and was determined scientifically using Krejcie & Morgan (1970) from selected Nigerian deposit money banks with their operational head offices in Lagos-Nigeria as the population of the study. The study adopted survey design and the validity results of KMO, and Bartletts test indicate that variables are highly significant, and principal component analysis was suitable (.837). The test-retest result of reliability reported a reliability index of 0.872. Multiple regressions with the aid of SPSS version 21 were used to test the formulated hypotheses. Findings of the study show that knowledge creation (32.3%), acquisition (62.1%), sharing (42.4%), and storage (46.2%) have a positive significant effect on organisational effectiveness. The study recommends among others that management of Nigerian deposit money banks should aptly designed and encourage knowledge processes in their banks since it constitutes a valuable intangible asset for creating and sustaining exceptional competitive advantages in the Nigerian banking industry. Purpose The importance of e-literacy of staff in the digital life is fundamentally very crucial, to such an extent that it is considered as one of the primary conditions for successful utilization of knowledge management processes using social technologies within organizations. This study aims to explain and test a novel conceptual model to show the impact of applying social technologies on knowledge management (KM) processes in the context of Iranian organizations, considering the moderator role of e-literacy of employees. Design/methodology/approach Based on an in-depth study of the relevant literature, a questionnaire was designed. The sound questionnaires obtained from our sample size was 207 and respondents were experts in the field of information technology (IT) within the Central Office of Insurance companies in Tehran. The collected data were analyzed using structural equation modeling and path analysis. Findings The results indicate that the use of social technologies with the factor loading of 0.57 has the highest impact on knowledge exchange and 0.61 on knowledge utilization. In addition, the results indicate that e-literacy with the factor loadings of 0.69 and 0.74 has the highest impact on knowledge exchange and knowledge utilization, respectively. In addition, the impact of social technologies with the factor loading of 0.82 has the highest impact on e-literacy. Research limitations/implications One of the limitations of this study was the generalizability of the findings, which may be limited, as it is focused on one developing country. Also, the lack of full implementation of KM and the use of social technologies in the insurance industry may affect the obtained results. Originality/value To the best knowledge of the authors, this study is among the first of its kind which examines the impact of social technologies usage on the KM processes considering an important variable, i.e. e-literacy of employees.
