In a previous paper the new EBSYQ (Evolutionary Based SYstem for Qualification and Evaluation of Group Achievements) system has been proposed for teachers and juries, helping them in making accurate and objective ranking. The analysis of the behaviour of the special characteristic sigmoid functions of the groups gives the possibility to discover some interesting points of view for qualifying the achievement and the standard of the groups (subgroups of talented and under- motivated students, spectrum of the group, eigenvalues, Lorentz function). This paper shows a case study of an international project of student groups competition in the field of product design, with Finnish and Hungarian students. Comparison of the decision process of the jury without using the EBSYQ system and with the application of the system shows the efficiency of the qualification system in realizing a well-founded and careful ranking of the groups, even in case of very close competition. Each point of view of the decision-making system is evaluated by numbers, which can increase the objectivity and accuracy of the decision.

The advisability of bringing children up bilingually is always questionable by the parents in general, but it is of vital importance for the parents of those children who are born within cross-national relationships. The current paper highlights the benefits and negative aspects of so doing from various points of view available in the related literature. It deals chiefly with assessing the parents’ situations and suggesting appropriate approaches to them for decision making when they want to raise their children bilingually. Although qualitative method of research including the descriptive and argumentative methods are used for the majority parts of the study, the instances of the writer’s bilingual experience are also mentioned as an outstanding proof in a case study. Whilst most of the common strategies for bringing children up bilingually are given in the current study, there are, of course, some other strategies for various circumstances. Other studies are recommended to focus mainly on strategies and reveal them for those parents who are eager to raise bilingual children.

The goal of this chapter is to describe a set of concepts for the design of information systems supporting the global decision process in an organization from a management point of view. Managers are responsible for decisions that are crucial for the success of the organization. Supporting decision taking by management in an integrated way means to support the global decision process of the organization and increase its efficiency and resilience. The system is envisaged so that i) each manager has available a decision dashboard to support the flux of decision-making for which he or she is responsible; ii) the dashboards also allow managers to crowdsource from non-managers different aspects of decision iii) the dashboards are connected in a conversational network; iv) this conversational network is so structured to support the global decision process of the organization.

Abstract Abstract 2076 Context: The decision to limit or withdraw specific therapies (DLWT) in patients with advanced cancer is a complex process that is always painful for patients, relatives and professionals. For more than 10 years, shared decision making has been more and more emphasized. However, few data in the literature rely on clinical research. In order to understand their difficulties and issues, this study explores the determinants and modalities of DLWT and analyses the feasibility of different methods for investigating this decision making process. Method: We conducted a multi-center pilot study in oncology and hematology units of 5 institutions: 2 university hospitals, 1 general hospital, 1 cancer center and 1 private hospital. The study included two different approaches: an epidemiological section to identify the prevalence of these situations in different institutions and a qualitative study section exploring factors influencing the decision process. The epidemiological analysis included all hospitalized patients identified with advanced cancer for whom the question of DLWT was raised in a given week or during the two weeks preceding the investigation. The qualitative analysis was based on interviews with the referent oncologist (or hematologist) and his patient (conducted by a physician and a psychologist respectively) as well as interviews with other partners involved in the situation (care staff and relatives) depending on the center. Researchers also participated in multidisciplinary meetings and monitored changes in the decision over a three month period. Results: Of the 839 patients hospitalized in the inclusion week, the question of DLWT was raised in 3.5% of cases (no=30) and in 14.3% (no=27 of 188 patients) when excluding outpatients. All primary care physicians and 70% (no=21) of patients were questioned in interviews. Subjective determinants related to the physician/patient relationship, and their respective experiences seemed predominant in DLWT. Futility and poor general condition were the most frequently cited reasons to limit or withdraw specific therapies. The complexity of the DLWT was linked primarily to the uncertainty of benefit-risk balance, emotional aspects, communication issues and possible discrepancies between physician and patients' expectations. A mirror analysis of the two points of view indicated that the personal experience of physicians and patients, pertaining to the withdrawal of specific therapies, was often discerned as a failure or an abandonment of care. Patients' involvement in DLWT was often hindered by the complex communication in the end of life period. Communication training of health professionals, involvement of care staff and relatives, and early palliative care were factors facilitating the decision process. Discussion and Conclusions: This study demonstrates the feasibility of a multi-disciplinary qualitative approach to explore the DLWT process that is acceptable for physicians and patients. It shows the frequency of this type of questioning in hospitalized patients (about 15%) and proposes a pertinent analysis to understand these difficult and poorly investigated situations, in which uncertainty brings the subjectivity of each person to the heart of major ethical issues. This preliminary work prompts us to build a prospective study to develop and evaluate tools and training programs which could support the ethical questioning and decisions in these situations. Disclosures: No relevant conflicts of interest to declare.

Thermoplastic composites manufacturing could be a potential end-of-life option for separated construction and demolition waste. This study aims to find out how well the established ecodesign methodologies support the choice of recycled composite materials in new product design, and what challenges these materials offer to the designer. A product design case study was conducted by applying the ecodesign methodologies Environmental Quality Function Deployment and Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution, to identify the main promoting and demoting factors from the designer’s point of view. The rate of recycled material is the main promoting factor, but biodegradability, recyclability, and the mixing of materials are usually demoting the composite use. The use of multiple criteria analysis techniques can work in favor of the composite, as the mechanical and physical properties are taken into consideration. The paper discusses the potential challenges the designer faces when evaluating the feasibility of using recycled material composites. The design suggests that new uses for waste that previously went to landfill, such as mineral wool, can be found with composite solutions.

The primary purpose of this research is to resolve the problem of ETL operation failure in execution of ETL (Extraction, Transformation and Loading) by the medical decision-making system due to data content, system factors and defective program design, thereby affect online daily operation of the application system and even customer complaint. This research first research and develop how to record in database, whether successful or not, the number of ETL file conversion program (including tool and self-wrote PL/SQL program) execution process, data status, and execution time; followed by designing control mechanism and write Script for voluminous table restoration for automatic execution by the system; afterwards followed by research and develop system automatic execution of restoration to stop only the affected application programs of the table and design a restoration mechanism. Lastly, through verification, this R&D result would correctly restore the data and table required by ETL procedure.
