The advisability of bringing children up bilingually is always questionable by the parents in general, but it is of vital importance for the parents of those children who are born within cross-national relationships. The current paper highlights the benefits and negative aspects of so doing from various points of view available in the related literature. It deals chiefly with assessing the parents’ situations and suggesting appropriate approaches to them for decision making when they want to raise their children bilingually. Although qualitative method of research including the descriptive and argumentative methods are used for the majority parts of the study, the instances of the writer’s bilingual experience are also mentioned as an outstanding proof in a case study. Whilst most of the common strategies for bringing children up bilingually are given in the current study, there are, of course, some other strategies for various circumstances. Other studies are recommended to focus mainly on strategies and reveal them for those parents who are eager to raise bilingual children.

The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze consumer choices and evaluate the restaurant service quality, including quality of meals and services, and sustainability practices in restaurants in Warsaw and Kaunas. Our research was conducted using a sample of 1200 adult Poles and Lithuanians. Polish and Lithuanian consumers used catering services with varying frequencies. Different elements influenced their choice of restaurant. However, the common feature was the quality of meals, which in Lithuania was compared only with the price of meals, and with other elements in Poland. In the context of restaurant’s sustainable practices, it has been revealed that surveyed consumers had only partially fit into the contemporary consumption trends. In both countries, consumers have appreciated the use of reusable cutlery and crockery, as well as local and seasonal ingredients, while they did not pay attention to sustainable restaurant practices, such as the use of alternative sources of protein, environmentally friendly forms of energy, and reducing waste and minimization of food losses. The use of cluster analysis and principal component analysis (PCA) allowed a comprehensive assessment of consumer opinions on restaurants in terms of meal quality and service as well as sustainable practices. Restaurateurs should monitor the satisfaction of their customers and recognize the changing needs and habits of consumers.

Abstract.Poliheuristic theory (PH) is an innovative attempt to conceptualize decision making in a way that recognizes patterns deriving from both cognitive and rational schools of thought about how foreign policy is made. Crisis decision making, a setting in which the political aspects emphasized by PH can be expected to operate, is the subject of this article. The study focuses on Turkey and China, two important states that frequently are characterized as sui generis and possibly unsuited to comparative analysis in the context of any overarching theory. As will become apparent, PH is capable of explaining crisis decision making for China and Turkey and the common pattern we explore is perhaps only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to cross-national application of the theory within the crisis domain.Résumé.

In a previous paper the new EBSYQ (Evolutionary Based SYstem for Qualification and Evaluation of Group Achievements) system has been proposed for teachers and juries, helping them in making accurate and objective ranking. The analysis of the behaviour of the special characteristic sigmoid functions of the groups gives the possibility to discover some interesting points of view for qualifying the achievement and the standard of the groups (subgroups of talented and under- motivated students, spectrum of the group, eigenvalues, Lorentz function). This paper shows a case study of an international project of student groups competition in the field of product design, with Finnish and Hungarian students. Comparison of the decision process of the jury without using the EBSYQ system and with the application of the system shows the efficiency of the qualification system in realizing a well-founded and careful ranking of the groups, even in case of very close competition. Each point of view of the decision-making system is evaluated by numbers, which can increase the objectivity and accuracy of the decision.

Subak is a farmer organization that regulates the irrigation system for rice cultivation in Bali. The research examines the behavior (knowledge, attitudes, skills) of subak members within the framework of the Hindu religious philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, three forms of harmony, namely spiritual, social, and environmental. The case study was conducted in Subak Aseman III, Selemadeg Timur District, Tabanan Regency. This study applies a qualitative method with data collection techniques by observation, interviews, and literature review. The results showed that the behavior of farmers in mastering knowledge was obtained both formally and informally. Farmers are selective in accepting various technological innovations. In implementing the values ??of Tri Hita Karana, subak members carry out rituals on auspicious days to pray for a better harvest result, maintain social harmony through collective decision making, and preserve the environment. This spirit in implementing the Tri Hita Karana philosophy is in line with the spirit to realize sustainable agriculture.

The importance of program evaluation for decision making, accountability, and sustainability is examined in this article. Pros and cons of traditional pretest-posttest and posttest-then-retrospective-pretest methodologies are discussed. A case study of Utah’s 4-H mentoring program using a posttest-then-retrospective-pretest design is presented. Furthermore, it is argued that the posttest-then-retrospective-pretest design is a valid, efficient, and cost-effective way to assess program outcomes and impacts.

AbstractUnderstanding the where, what, how, who and why is important to any social research. This chapter poses these questions about data and well-being in various ways. We look at well-being measurement, appraising the pros and cons of different forms of data and approaches, acknowledging that all data have limits and that context should drive any chosen approach. It presents examples of qualitative data available through interviews and ethnographies, and quantitative data through surveys, and administrative records. We focus on objective well-being data and a case study of the OECD reveals the volume of decision-making behind international objective indicators. Such human intervention is rarely visible, but is important and useful to improve understanding and comprehension of well-being data more generally.
