The lock down in COVID-19 affected India’s economy, health and quality of life, causing an indefinite standstill for the majority of major urban areas in India. Check out the different economic and health challenges faced by the urban populations of India and their lock down perceptions, CHD Group has conducted the Mangalore based global health organization this national evaluation survey. 604 respondents from 25 Indian states (including the Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir Union territories) were surveyed. The survey involved respondents from all the worst-hit countries, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Ra, who had confirmed COVID-19 as on 1 May 2020. According to the CHD Group’s COVID-19 Lock down National Assessment Survey, 40% of India’s urban population is living in fear of unemployment. In addition, 15% of employed respondents do not receive the same monthly income during the lock-down period. A worryingly large proportion (48 %) of respondents face difficulties in accessing essential commodities during the lock-up. 21% faced difficulties in purchasing medicines, and 18% faced difficulties in accessing healthcare facilities, even in urban centres. Inadequate access to healthcare facilities during the lockdown may lead to potential exacerbations of their pre-existing illnesses. Furthermore, access constraints to medicines and healthcare facilities were highest among respondents from the states of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, which also collectively account to nearly 60% of COVID-19 cases in India. (https://www.chdefforts.org/ publications/, 2020) Based on the situation, we planned the assessment of Quality of Life of People with Epilepsy during the COVID Pandemic.

Foram utilizados: Instrwumento de Caracterização Sociodemográfica; World Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment-Old (WHOQOL-OLD) e Medida de Independência Funcional (MIF).

The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric qualities of the WHOQOL-BREF(PT) (the questionnaire developed by the World Health Organization Quality of Life Grpup for quality of life assessment), when applied to Portuguese elderly people residing in a community setting. The psychometric qualities were assessed by confirmatory factor analysis. A hierarchical second-order model and a third model were performed, and all three models presented similar and reasonable adjustment indexes. The data analysis showed that the construct failed only regarding discriminant validity because the correlations between the first-order factors were higher, associated with lower values of average variance extracted. The psychometric qualities found in the original translation/validation of the WHOQOL-BREF(PT) were compared with those found in this study; this study found higher correlations between domains but a similar level of factor reliability. The findings of this study lead to three recommendations: (i) to compute each factor score for each participant using the factor score weights obtained from confirmatory analysis models instead of adopting a unitary weight for each item, as proposed by the authors of the original translation/validation of the WHOQOL-BREF(PT); (ii) to compute a QOL score, which is not included in the original translation/validation; and (iii) to analyze differences between individual scores for each participants, which should be done by a group of health experts.

Summary Assessment of quality of life (QoL) and use of this information towards improvement of health care services is an important area of activity of the World Health Organization (WHO). This paper briefly discusses the conceptual basis and the methodology used in WHO's Quality of Life Project (WHOQOL). It describes the simultaneous development of instruments in widely different cultures to assess subjective QoL. Use of these instruments in the field of clinical trials with psychotropics is highlighted.

Como instrumentos, foram utilizados um questionário sociodemográfico, o World Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment versão curta (WHOQOL-BREF) e o WHOQOL-OLD.

Quality of life of first-degree relatives living in the same household with patients having schizophrenia has not been sufficiently explored. 30 patients with schizophrenia (16 women, 14 men), diagnosed using DSM–IV criteria, 31 of their relatives (15 women, 16 men), and 34 control subjects (21 women, 13 men) were included in the study. The mean age of the patients, their relatives, and the control subjects were 39.8 ± 10.9, 58.1 ± 12.5 and 37.3 ± 17.0, respectively. The World Health Organization Quality of Life–Brief Form was administered to all subjects. Quality of life was worse for the patient group than for their relatives and control subjects, but relatives of the patients and control subjects were not significantly different on Quality of life. Quality of life was negatively correlated with the severity of psychopathology and extrapyramidal side effects induced by antipsychotic drugs in the patients.

Participaram 804 homens idosos. Os dados foram coletados pelos instrumentos: Older Americans Resources and Services(OARS), World Health Organization Quality of Life - Bref (WHOQOL-BREF) e Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment for Older Adults(WHOQOL-OLD).
