The article depicts the forming of professional self – determination of future chemistry teachers in the conditions of competency approach. The notions “professional self – determination”, “competence”, “competency approach” were determined.The purpose of the research was to analysіs elements of substantive competency of Chemistry teacher, the direction of their development, the structure and the concept of the directions of the future competence development. The article also demonstrates characteristic features of professional – pedagogical competence of modern chemistry teacher.The meaning of students mastering the methodology of teaching Chemistry and passing pedagogical practice for forming teacher competence was demonstrated.Key words: professional self- determination, professional competence, competency approach, future Chemistry teacher, the process of studying.
