Abstract. This work analyze the coexistence of sports teams of disciplines that involve contact with the rival team in their practice, based on the empirical analysis from 30 interviews with coaches and athletes of teams from the Community of Madrid of the soccer, basketball and rugby disciplines. In a feminist approach from the sociology of sport, the forms of organization of sports teams are pointed out, making visible the strict hierarchies and normalized disciplinary systems, influencing certain exacerbated practices that can be justified in the context. From here, an analysis is carried out through the special sensitivities of sport that affects the study of emotions and affective dynamics in these sports teams, reflecting on their mission as support for systems that perpetuate fragility that will give rise to certain vulnerabilities in space, especially against women.

Recently, foreign tourists have revealed a growing interest for natural environment enjoyment. This study aimed to: (a) identify the service satisfaction factors and (b) analyze the influence that satisfaction factors exert on the loyalty of ecotourists. The empirical analysis was carried out in Arenal National Park and Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge in Costa Rica, a country with international prominence in ecotourism due to the wealth of resources in its protected areas. A factorial analysis and the stepwise multiple regression method were performed for the data analysis of 246 surveys made in situ. Results show three satisfaction factors in ecotourism: “nature and culture”, “infrastructure”, and “service”, where “nature and culture” was the most influential predictor of tourists’ loyalty. The study also found a positive correlation between satisfaction and loyalty in ecotourism. This research will provide relevant insights to public institutions and private companies efficient planning and benefit the community and protected areas.

The continuous growth of the cruise industry has brought with it a series of threats. Among them is the management of the seasonality of cruise activity in order to address its negative effects. This study examines the monthly cruise passenger movement distribution among a group of harbors located in the northeast sector of the Atlantic Ocean and the Baltic Sea with the aim of determining the existence of seasonality patterns in cruise traffic and their relationship between different regions. A database of cruise passenger movements during the period from 2007 to 2019 among 24 harbors forms the backbone of the empirical analysis. First, the seasonal variation index of each harbor was calculated to determine the seasonality pattern. Second, a cluster analysis was performed to classify harbors into clusters with analogous seasonality patterns. The results reveal that seasonality of cruise activity in a consolidated region is explained by own factors of the region, but also by an induced seasonality imported from neighboring cruise regions.

This paper studies one of the most popular investment themes over recent years, investing in the cannabis industry. In particular, it investigates relationships between investor attention, as proxied by Google Trends, and stock market activities, i.e., return, volatility, and liquidity. To this end, in the empirical analysis we study how liquidity and investors’ attention affect the return dynamics of an investment in cannabis stocks by augmenting the three-factor Fama–French model. In addition, we use a vector autoregressive approach and the impulse response function to measure shock transmission between the variables under consideration. Our empirical findings show that there is a statistically positive relationship between cannabis stock returns and liquidity. We also find that increased investors’ attention results in higher returns.

AbstractThe internal audit function (IAF) has become one of the main pillars of good corporate governance. Empirical findings show that the size of the IAF varies considerably across companies. This study analyzes the relationships between selected company characteristics as determinants of intra-company information asymmetries and the size of the IAF as an indicator of intra-company monitoring. We test these relationships by analyzing comprehensive survey data obtained from chief audit executives from 283 Austrian, German, and Swiss companies. Using a nonparametric regression approach, we identify significant nonlinear relationships between company characteristics and IAF size. The empirical analysis identifies threshold levels for several metric company characteristics, such as the number of employees and the number of subsidiaries, whose relationships with the size of the IAF change its intensity.

This chapter examines the discourse of the Portuguese right-wing populist André Ventura and compares it with his close counterparts, Santiago Abascal, Marine Le Pen, and Matteo Salvini. The empirical analysis is focused on the 2021 presidential campaign and looks at Twitter and YouTube as parts of an integrated political communication strategy that are used as tools of exposure and message dissemination. The results show how André Ventura appropriates the features of right-wing populism but adapts those to the Portuguese specific context as a strategy to gain both wider media visibility and popular support.

Abstract: This paper aims to identify and analyze the factors that influence the decision of Mato Grosso’s farmers to produce soybean using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). We found evidence that decision-making of soybean production is related to rural production aspects such as climate, financing, cost of inputs, and soil quality rather than marketing and logistics. The novelty of this paper is the empirical analysis of the decision-making in agricultural production using AHP. The decision model was created and tested considering 21 farmers and 19 experts linked to the soybean production. Three different scenarios were considered: farmers' view, experts' view, and combined view. Our findings indicate that farmers and experts agree with rural aspects are predominant in the decision to plant soybean. Moreover, logistics have been used as an important flag of soybean competitiveness on international trade by soybean stakeholders in Brazil. However, our results show that logistics impact in the soybean decision-making process is low. Due to data limitation access, this study focuses only on Mato Grosso. However, this study has an exploratory character and presents empirical results that may help to understand soybean production over the country.

Although a fair share of scholarly attention has been paid to the metaphorically driven grammaticalization of the originally spatial English far from X-construction into a minimizer, whereby it emphatically points to the subject’s non-attainment of a given property or failure to enter a specific eventuality, little has been written about whether, and how, this change finds reflection in the translation of English texts into foreign languages, including Polish. Thus, on the basis of a random sample composed of sentences containing the English far from X-construction along with their respective Polish translations extracted from the parallel English-Polish Paralela Corpus, this paper sets out to examine how the grammaticalized English expression is typically rendered into Polish. Considering the variation observed in the data, five main translation categories have been identified, namely those involving (i) spatial markers, (ii) standard minimizers, (iii) simple negation, (iv) omission, and (v) other locutions. The results of the empirical analysis indicate that in slightly more than half of the cases, the metaphorical English construction is translated into Polish with the use of non-spatial expressions, in particular canonical minimizers, a finding which can be accounted for in terms of the fact that the Polish spatial counterparts of far from X have generally undergone a lower degree of grammaticalization.

This paper investigates whether and how the research reports issued by securities companies affect stock returns from the perspective of investor sentiment in China. By collecting research reports and investor comments from a popular Chinese investor community, i.e., East Money, we derive two indices that represent the information contained in research reports: one is the attention of research reports and the other is the average stock rating given by research reports; then we develop an investor sentiment indicator using the machine learning method. Based on behavioral finance theory, we hypothesize that research reports have a significant effect on stock returns and investor sentiment plays a mediating role in it. The empirical analysis results confirm the above hypotheses. Specifically, the average stock rating given by research reports can better predict future stock returns, and investor sentiment plays a partial mediating role in the relationship between stock rating and stock returns.

The state's privilege right to tax receivables in bankruptcy cases is regulated differently under various laws and court decisions in Indonesia. In general, tax receivables in bankruptcy have privilege position over other creditors, including secured creditors such as banks, mortgage holders, fiduciary guarantees and finance companies, preferential creditors and concurrent creditors. The creditor’s tax debt to the state should be paid first before any payment to other creditors. However, the Director General of Tax under the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia often faces problems in claiming the payment as the Ministry claims for the payment are always rejected by the Court. Each of the existing legal rules and decisions provides different answers to this problem, resulting in legal uncertainties. This research is conducted using the normative juridical approach and supported by the empirical analysis. The data collection is conducted by document studies and supported by court decisions. This research aims to inquire and analyse the position of tax receivables in the distribution of bankruptcy estate of debtors among other creditors, the role of the curators, both state and private curators, in the bankruptcy estate distribution in order to find a legal solution to the aforementioned issue according to the normative legal provisions that apply.
