Hydrocotyle kollimalayensis, a new species is described and illustrated from Kolli hills of South Eastern Ghats, Tamil Nadu, India. The new species is morphologically closer to H. sibthorpioides, but differs from the latter by its filiform stem, glabrous peduncle, shorter petiole and narrower flowers. The most prominent features of the new species Hydrocotyle kollimalayensis are: stem filiform with silky setaceous hairs; leaves sparsely hirsute above and dense below, 5-lobed; flowers 6-12 per inflorescence with glabrous peduncle; and fruits ellipsoidal with 3 obscure ribs. A key to distinguish the new species from other Hydrocotyle species of Tamil Nadu, India is provided. We also inferred the relationship of H. kollimalayensis with allied species using molecular phylogenetic analyses based on nrDNA ITS sequence data.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/bjpt.v21i2.21356Bangladesh J. Begonia yizhouensis, a new species in Begonia sect. Coelocentrum (Begoniaceae) from Guangxi of China, is described and illustrated. Morphologically, it is similar to the adjacently distributed B. luochengensis, but clearly separated by its waxy leaves with glabrous or sometimes sparsely puberulous surfaces, larger variation in leaf color and maculation along the main veins, white to pinkish-white flowers and late flowering. Furthermore, molecular phylogenetic analysis indicated B. yizhouensis was a monophyletic lineage and was sister with B. luochengensis. The relationship of the new species and other similar species is also discussed. This new species is endemic to limestone hills in Guangxi and is assessed as “Endangered” (EN) according to the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria. Additionally, morphological and molecular evidence for B. yishanensis not being synonymous with B. porteri is presented.

Molecular phylogenetic studies of Hosta pulchella (Asparagaceae) and its relatives, which are native to Japan, have been conducted and resulted in a highly resolved phylogeny. Specifically, the relationship of H. pulchella to H. alata Hatusima, nom. nud. is investigated. These data include genome-wide SNPs obtained through conducting multiplexed ISSR genotyping by sequencing (MIG-seq). Based on these phylogenetic results, morphological observations, distribution, and differences in flowering periods of H. alata collections sympatric with H. pulchella, we find the two species closely related, but distinct. As such, we formally describe Hosta alatasp. nov. from the Oita Prefecture of Kyushu island, southwestern Japan.

A new species, Terminalichus simplex sp. nov., is described based on adult females, deutonymphs and protonymphs, collected on Terminalia catappa L. (Combretaceae) from Thailand. The relationship of Terminalichus with other brevipalpine genera is discussed and a key to species of Terminalichus, Tenuilichus, Amblypalpus, Colopalpus and Priscapalpus is provided.

A new species of the genus Piestus Gravenhorst is described from Peru, P. chullachaqui sp. nov. (Cuzco). Photographs and drawings of the major diagnostic characters are provided. A key to Piestus species is modified to include the new species. New records are provided for Piestus angularis Fauvel, Piestus bicornis (Olivier), Piestus fronticornis (Dalman), Piestus lacordairei Laporte, Piestus longipennis (Fauvel), Piestus mexicanus Laporte, Piestus minutus Erichson, Piestus pennicornis Fauvel, Piestus spinosus (Fabricius), Piestus sulcatus Gravenhorst, Piestus surrufus Caron et al. and Piestus validus Sharp. Cladistic analysis is made to know the relationship of the P. chullachaqui sp. nov. within Piestus.

Russula subsection Amoeninae is morphologically defined by a dry velvety pileus surface, a complete absence of cystidia with heteromorphous contents in all tissues, and spores without amyloid suprahilar spot. Thirty-four species within subsection Amoeninae have been published worldwide. Although most Russula species in South Korea have been assigned European or North American names, recent molecular studies have shown that Russula species from different continents are not conspecific. Therefore, the present study aims to: 1) define which species of Russula subsection Amoeninae occur on each continent using molecular phylogenetic analyses; 2) revise the taxonomy of Korean Amoeninae. The phylogenetic analyses using the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and multilocus sequences showed that subsection Amoeninae is monophyletic within subgenus Heterophyllidiae section Heterophyllae. A total of 21 Russula subsection Amoeninae species were confirmed from Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and Central America, and species from different continents formed separate clades. Three species were recognized from South Korea and were clearly separated from the European and North American species. These species are R. bella, also reported from Japan, a new species described herein, Russula orientipurpurea, and a new species undescribed due to insufficient material.

Abstract The integrated results of morphological and molecular phylogenetic analyses confirmed the new species status of a recently discovered population of Ansonia from Suan Phueng District, Ratchaburi Province, Thailand. Ansonia karensp. nov. is separated from all other species of Ansonia by a unique combination of mensural, discrete morphological, and color pattern characteristics and is the sister species of A. thinthinae from Tanintharyi Division, Myanmar. This discovery fills a geographic hiatus of 350 km between it and A. kraensis from Ranong Province, Thailand. Ansonia karensp. nov. is the newest member of a long list of range-restricted endemics having been recently discovered in the northern Tenasserim Mountain region of western Thailand and continues to underscore the unexplored nature of this region and its need for conservation.

This study presents one telamonioid species new to science based on morphological characteristics and molecular phylogenetic analyses. Cortinarius khinganensis was collected from the Greater Khingan Mountains, Northeast China and it is characterized by hygrophanous, vivid brownish red and striate pileus, white universal veil, and subglobose spores. According to phylogenetic analyses results, C. khinganensis belongs to the section Illumini, which is a lineage distantly related from subgenus Telamonia sensu stricto. Detailed descriptions of the new species and the comparisons with morphologically similar species are provided. The phylogenetic relationships within the section Illumini are also discussed.

A new mayfly species, Sparsorythus sivaramakrishnani sp. nov. from the stream of Pullian cholai, Thuraiyur, Namakkal district, Tamil Nadu, India is described based on male and female nymphs. Sparsorythus sivaramakrishnani sp. nov. differs from the closely related S. gracilis by the shape of the left prostheca, the number of bristle-like processes at base of left prostheca, the ratio and shape of right prostheca, the ratio of femur length: width, the size of the female nymph, the mesonotum overlapping in fifth abdominal segment of the female, and by the shape of hypopharyngeal lingua.

A new species of Gymnopus sect. Androsacei, namely, G. pallipes is described and illustrated based on morphological and molecular phylogenetic evidence. It is characterized by marasmioid basidiomata, a dark brown to reddish brown pileus becoming dull white to yellowish grey with age, whitish to pale yellow stipe and presence of rhizomorphs. Phylogenetic analyses support it as a new species within Gymnopus sect. Androsacei. The detailed morphological description, colour photos of basidiomata, and line drawings of microcharacters are presented and delimitation characters from similar species are discussed. A key to the known species of Gymnopus s. str. from China is also provided.
