He also gave a history of traumatic injury when he was eight years old for which he didn't undergo any dental treatment. He had noncontributory medical history. On extraoral examination, no abnormality was detected. Intraoral examination revealed there was no sign of caries, no crown discoloration, no swelling and no sinus tract was present. Gingival tissue and tooth were intact. On palpation, the patient felt mild pain on the root area of affected tooth. On percussion, dull percussion note was present.

An odontoma is usually found in the surrounding area of the unerupted permanent tooth bud and rarely adjacent to the primary central incisor. This report presents a case of an unerupted malformed primary central incisor, histologically diagnosed as a compound odontoma. A 5.5 year-old healthy boy presented with an unerupted maxillary left primary central incisor and mild gingival buccal swelling. No history of traumatic injury was recorded. Radiological examination revealed a tooth-like mass with a partially developed root and a malformed crown in the area of the left primary central incisor. Delayed development of the successor left permanent incisor in comparison to the right one was noted. The rational for early surgical intervention to enable normal development and eruption of permanent incisors is described. Clinical and radiographic diagnoses as well as several etiological factors and a differential diagnosis are considered and reviewed.

Treatment of severe compromised tooth in the maxillary anterior area still poses great challenge to the clinicians. Several treatment modalities have been proposed to restore the function and aesthetics in teeth with advanced periodontal disease. The present study aims to report a case of traumatic injury of a left-maxillary central incisor with ridge preservation, orthodontic movement, and implant therapy. A 45-year-old woman underwent the proposed treatment for her left central incisor: basic periodontal therapy, xenogenous bone graft, and guided bone regeneration (GBR). Six months after the graft procedure, orthodontic movement by means of alignment and leveling was made and a coronal displacement of the gingival margin and vertical bone apposition could be observed after 13 months of active movement. Afterwards, a dental implant was placed followed by a connective tissue graft and immediate provisionalization of the crown. In conclusion, orthodontic movement was effective to improve the gingival tissue and alveolar bone prior to implant placement favoring the aesthetic results. Six years postoperatively, the results revealed height and width alveolar bone gain indicating that the treatment proposed was able to restore all the functional and aesthetic parameters.

An 88-year-old male patient with a past medical history of hypertension and gastroesophageal disease presented with nausea, vomiting, and hypothermia. He was admitted for further testing, which revealed elevated creatine kinase and its MB isoenzyme (CK-MB) and troponin with no significant electrocardiogram changes. He denied cardiac symptoms or any previous cardiac history. The patient was treated with fluids and antibiotics in which improvement in his symptoms was noted. In this article, we share this rare case of hypothermia associated with elevation of CK-MB.

This article has no abstract. The first 100 words appear below:

A 33 year old male patient came to the outpatient Department complaining of the bad appearance of his upper left central incisor tooth. He had no history of trauma in that area but the tooth was discolored gradually (Figure 1A). Furthermore, the tooth was asymptomatic. There was no pain and discomfort during mastication. The patient had gastric irritation for the last 5 years and still using omeprazole irregularly. The clinical examination indicates that the left central incisor tooth was yellowish in color and the dentine was found to be exposed (Figure 1B). There was gross tooth tissue loss at the labial surface that includes the incisal edge of the tooth.

The recall rate of patients’ family medical histories was studied in 200 cancer and non-cancer patients. Data on age and cause of death for parents and grandparents were collected. Although most patients knew the age and cause of death of parents, less than half knew for grandparents. Cancer patients had significantly greater recall for maternally related relatives. A subsample of patients’ family medical histories was compared to death certificate data. Patients’ reports were found to be highly inaccurate. Since only a small subgroup could provide medical history data for grandparents, the generaliz-ability for history of family illness is questioned.

SummaryA 5-month-old, 13.5 kg, female Corriedale sheep was referred to the Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital, with a history of traumatic injury of the cervical spine followed by non-ambulatoric tetraparesis that occurred 2 weeks before being admitted to the hospital. At admission, malalignment of the cervical spine with the cranial part of the neck deviating to the right was noted. Neurological examinations identified the absence of postural reactions in both forelimbs, mildly decreased spinal reflexes, and normal reaction to pain perception tests. Radiography revealed malalignment of the cervical vertebrae with subluxations at C1–C2 and C2–C3, and a comminuted fracture of the caudal aspect of C2. The sheep was euthanized due to a presumed poor prognosis. Necropsy and histopathological findings confirmed injuries of the cervical spine from C1 to C3, which were consistent with the clinical finding of tetraparesis in this case. This paper presents a rare case of multiple subluxations of the cervical spine caused by blunt force trauma in a young sheep. These results highlight the importance of an astute clinical diagnosis for such an acute cervical spine trauma and the need for prompt surgical correction for similar cases in the future.
