The study of micellar behavior of SDS in presence of additives such as metal (Fe, Cu, Co, Zn) phendione complexes, calcium salts and amino acids in aqueous solutions in surfactant-solute-1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol(PAN) dye ternary systems were carried out by measuring the absorbance of PAN at 470 nm. The complexes [Fe(phendione)3](ClO4)2·2H2O, [Co(phendione)3](ClO4)2·3H2O, and [Cu(phendione)2] (ClO4)2·2H2O, decreased the CMC value of SDS from 8 mM to 0.70 mM, 0.40 mM, and 1.0 mM, respectively. In presence of calcium salts (CaCl2, CaF2, calcium acetate, calcium oxalate·H2O) the CMC of SDS decreased. The study of interaction of amino acids with anionic surfactant SDS provides important information about protein-surfactant and peptide-surfactant interaction in aqueous environment. In the present study glycine, L-alanine, L-valine, L-histidine, L-leucine, L-lysine have been used as additives in SDS aqueous solution which also decreased the CMC of SDS. The thermodynamic parameters for each series were obtained from absorbance versus concentration curves. Among the series more negative values for ?G0mic of SDS are observed for the metal complexes. Amino acids series as well as metal salts show similar negative values for ?G0mic of SDS. Negative values of ?G0mic indicated that the process of micellization is thermodynamically favorable.

Palladium has wide application in different contexts and, as a consequence, high levels of palladium in the environment have been reported, representing a risk to human health. Considering the interest to develop more selective and sensitive chemosensors for this analyte, two novel benzoxazolyl-alanine derivatives bearing a crown ether moiety were studied as potential fluorimetric chemosensors for palladium detection. Preliminary chemosensory studies for these unnatural amino acids in the presence of selected metal cations were performed in acetonitrile solution and in aqueous mixtures of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS, 20 mM, pH 7.5) solution with acetonitrile, 90:10 v/v. In acetonitrile solution, these probes had a fluorescence response for different cations but, most importantly, in SDS aqueous solution both compounds displayed a selective fluorescence response in the presence of palladium.

<div>Two constitutional dynamic libraries (CDLs)—each containing two amines, two dialdehydes and two metal salts—have been found to self-sort, generating two pairs of imine-based metallosupramolecular architectures sharing no component, a [2×2] grid-like complex and a linear double helicate. These CDLs provided unique examples of a three-level self-sorting process, as only two imine-based ligand constituents, two metal complexes and two architectures were selected during their assembling out of all the possible combinations of their initial components. The metallosupramolecular architectures assembled were characterized by NMR, mass spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography.</div>

In this paper, we followed the kinetics of methyl methacrylate (MMA) through a novel fluorescence method. The real-time measurement results show that in the regime of very low monomer contents, such as a solution containing 0.1 wt% of MMA with respect to water and with the anionic surfactant of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS), the kinetic of the miniemulsion could be followed by this embed fluorescence method. The processes of changing from emulsion to miniemulsion with different amount of surfactant and cosurfactant also have been monitored.

Saturated nucleate pool boiling of aqueous surfactant solutions on a horizontal cylindrical heater has been experimentally investigated. Sodium dodecyl or lauryl sulfate (SDS or SLS), an anionic surfactant, is employed. Boiling performance, relative to that for pure water, is found to be enhanced significantly by the presence of SDS, with an early onset of nucleate boiling. An optimum level of enhancement is observed in solutions at or near critical micelle concentration of the surfactant; the enhancement, however, decreases considerably in higher concentration solutions. The dynamic surface tension measurements indicate a substantial influence of temperature on the overall adsorption isotherm. The diffusion kinetics of surfactant molecules and micelles is, therefore, expected to be quite different at boiling temperature than at room temperature. This greatly modifies the boiling mechanism that is generally characterized by the formation of smaller-size bubbles with increased departure frequencies, and a decreased tendency to coalesce which causes considerable foaming.
