Abstract. The frequency of detection of cystic lesions of the head and neck in dental patients of the maxillofacial department of the Vinnitsya Regional Clinical Hospital named after N.I. Pirogov on the basis of a retrospective analysis of the hospital’s archival materials for five years was determined. The structure of the cysts of the maxillofacial region with the correlation of age and gender indicators is described. Key words: frequency, cyst, retrospective analysis, correlation.

Purpose. To identify the clinical course of the «risk-forms» of peripheral vitreochorioretinal dystrophy (PVCRD) depending on sex, age, type and degree of refraction in children, as well as to establish the characteristics of the diagnosis and treatment of PVCRD in childhood. Methods. A retrospective analysis of medical records of pediatric patients who underwent peripheral prophylactic laser retinal coagulation (PPLRC) regarding the «risk-forms» of PVHRD at the ophthalmology department of MAUZ Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 1 from 2017 to 2019 was performed. 241 childr (293 eyes) aged 7 to 17 years (mean age 14.1 ± 2.4 years) were operated. Results. PVCRD in children is asymptomatic and it is detected at the age of 7 to 17 years, regardless of gender, the peak of occurrence is 10–14 years. The most common type of PVCRD is «lattice» dystrophy. PVCRD is predominant in low degree myopia. Quite a lot of cases of PVCRD detected in emmetropic refraction, as well as in hyperopic refraction and combined astigmatism. Conclusions. A thorough examination of the periphery of the fundus is necessary in all children, regardless of age and refraction. The parameters of laser coagulation in children differ from those in adults. Given the characteristics of childhood, the success of the operation depends on the correct preoperative preparation, including psychological preparation, contact of the surgeon with the child during the operation. Abstract Aim This study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of self reported medical conditions among dental patients attending dental teaching clinics in north Jordan. Methods and Materials A total of 1,509 patients were included, of which 46.1% were males and 53.9% were females. All age groups were included and ranged between 14 and 78 years. The findings were analyzed in relation to age and gender. Results Overall, gastrointestinal disease was most prevalent (11.9%), followed by bleeding tendencies (9.3%), renal disorders (8.7%), respiratory disease (8.3%), and hypertension (6.4%). Only 3.2% of the participants reported having antibiotics prescribed for them prior to a dental procedure for prophylactic purposes. Conclusion Due to the high frequency of medical conditions, thorough evaluation of patients’ medical and dental care histories should be a mandatory first step in their management. Objective. To determine the association between COVID-19 infection and peripancreatic changes on CT as a sign of acute pancreatic injury. Methods. Retrospective analysis of CT examinations in patients with confirmed COVID-19 infection yielded 103 instances. An age- and gender-matched cohort of patients without COVID-19 was found. CT examinations were evaluated for peripancreatic stranding or edema, fluid collection, or necrosis, without any other explanation. Depicted pulmonary parenchyma was evaluated for possible COVID-19-related changes. Clinical and laboratory data were retrieved from the clinical database. Results. Peripancreatic fat stranding ( n = 8 ) or fluid collection ( n = 2 ) without any other cause was found in 10 (10%) patients. Abdominal complaints were reported in 4 (40%) patients. Elevated serum amylase or lipase levels were documented in 5 (50%) patients who also satisfied the diagnostic criteria for acute pancreatitis. From the study sample of 103 patients with COVID-19, pulmonary parenchyma was depicted in 102 (99%), and from these, 57 (55%) had an evidence of pulmonary changes compatible with COVID-19 pneumonia. This proportion was not significantly different between patients with and without peripancreatic changes ( p = 0.35 ). In the matched cohort, we found peripancreatic changes in 2 (2%, p = 0.033 ) patients. Patients with pancreatic injury and elevated amylase levels were more likely to require orotracheal intubation (35% vs. 12%, p = 0.021 ). Conclusions. We showed that the prevalence of peripancreatic stranding or fluid collection is higher in patients diagnosed with COVID-19 infection compared to an age- and gender-matched cohort. Patients with pancreatic injury and elevated amylase levels are more likely to require orotracheal intubation. Our findings corroborate the link between COVID-19 infection and pancreatic injury from the perspective of imaging.

Injuries and pathologies of the maxillofacial region are the most common consequence during sports. The prevalence of pathologies and injuries of the maxillofacial region varies depending on the type of sport they are engaged in, the degree of contact, as well as the age and gender of athletes. An insufficient number of studies have been conducted to study the effect of sports loads on the dentofacial system, so it is necessary to identify the prevalence of pathologies of the maxillofacial region and develop methods for preventing pathologies of the maxillofacial region in athletes when performing physical exercises Studies were conducted using the methods of clinical examination and electronic questionnaires of athletes who experience loads on the dentoalveolar system when performing training exercises. The research involved 50 people. Most athletes otherwise close their teeth when performing training exercises and experience discomfort in the maxillofacial region during training exercises. Few athletes have used any funds for the prevention and prevention of pathological changes in the oral and maxillofacial region. In a relaxed state, most athletes close their teeth in a different way than when performing physical exercises. Because of this, there may be pathological changes in the maxillofacial region, which must be prevented at an early stage with the help of protective mouthguards.
