Electricity supply has been identified as the key constraint to industrialization and economic development in Nigeria. The unbundling of the power sector was aimed at boosting electricity supply, this effort has yielded some appreciable results, but not very significant. As a result of the low power generation and distribution, Nigeria’s federal government is working towards solving the prevailing problems of inadequate power in some key sectors by building power generating plants in some of the institutions of learning in the country. This paper looks at the determinants of electrical energy consumption and electrical energy audit, a case study of the University of Jos. The load profiles demand survey, load demand forecast and other important factors were investigated. The result revealed that there is available power of 22–23 hours from the national grid and the balance 1–2 hours of power is supplied by the generating sets, good savings in the cost of diesel and maintenance. An annual excess of 2,199,900 kWH is enjoyed by the university over the national per capita power consumption.

Recently, electric usages are increasing every year by year in many sectors. In facts, fossil fuels have been fueled to produce electrical energy availability at many power plants which are very limited for the sustainable procurement. Developing and implementing renewable energy sources should be urgently promoted to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels that have been fueled to generate electricity for the long period throughout various power plant combinations. In expectation, the natural source of electrical energy which environmentally friendly and easy to obtain in nature is recommended to explore for the existing energy producers. The natural source of energy can be operated as an alternative power plant to reduce environmental effects and to decrease air contaminants. These works cover those opportunities. In these studies, the method used is a quantitative category with collected primary and secondary data for all evaluations and mitigations. In general, these works are also designed for identifying problems and looking for literature, data collection, processing stage, analysis phase, and final conclusion. The data used is defined in terms of temperature, air pressure, and wind speed. The collected data are supposed to the Purwoharjo City of Banyuwangi Regency, with 10 meters above ground level. Naturally, the wind speed is about 3.5 m/s to 4 m/s and the average temperature is 300° Kelvin. The potentially generated wind energy at a single point of coordinates is around 85.17 Wh.

In recent years, several factors such as environmental pollution which is caused by fossil fuels and various diseases caused by them from one hand and concerns about the dwindling fossil fuels and price fluctuation of the products and resulting effects of these fluctuations in the economy from other hand has led most countries to seek alternative energy sources for fossil fuel supplies. Such a way that in 2006, about 18% of the consumed energy of the world is obtained through renewable energies. Iran is among the countries that are geographically located in hot and dry areas and has the most sun exposure in different months of the year. Except in the coasts of Caspian Sea, the percentage of sunny days throughout the year is between 63 to 98 percent in Iran. On the other hand, there are dispersed and remote areas and loads far from national grid which is impossible to provide electrical energy for them through transmission from national grid, therefore, for such cases the renewable energy technologies could be used to solve the problem and provide the energy. In this paper, technical and economic feasibility for the use of renewable energies for independent systems of the grid for a dispersed load in the area on the outskirts of Isfahan (Sepahan) with the maximum energy consumption of 3Kwh in a day is studied and presented. In addition, the HOMER simulation software is used as the optimization tool.

The development of non-polluted renewable energy such as solar power, wind power, hydro power, sea wave power, growed rapidly in accordance with the technology developments in the recent decade. The electric energy from PLN (Indonesian Electricity Company) obtained from fuels processed through power plant converted into electrical energy. Generally, the use of electricity as a major power generator causes pollution, besides the price of fossil fuels tends to rise that make the increase in investment. One of abundantly alternative energy in Indonesia is solar radiation. The employing of of solar energy used solar panels (solar cell) convert sunlight into electrical energy directly. It easily employs in residencies commonly referred to Solar Home System. The synergistic home design which applies active design tools called Smart Home. As the development of a power plant has no synchronization with the residential design, this research purposes to observe and synchronize the installation of alternative energy device in residencies. The cooperation with PT ATMI Kreasi Energy was very advantageous for developing this subject matter from other perspectives in the future.

Abstract Eastern side of Indonesia has a group of scattered Islands and have a great distance from the main Island. Fossil fuels are the main option for meeting the needs of electrical energy in the outer Islands. But the availability of fossil fuels is very dependent on the weather and modes of transportation. In addition, fossil energy also causes emissions and environmental pollution, so efforts to diversify alternative energy by utilizing renewable energy are needed to meet energy needs. Ut Island, Maluku is one of the Islands which is not yet powered by utilities. In this paper, the HOMER software is used to determine the optimal hybrid power plant configuration from a techno-economic perspective by utilizing energy resources available on the Island. From the simulations that have been carried out wind speed has a significant influence on the optimal configuration of the PLH system. Load value affects the amount of NPC and COE. The greater the load is fulfilled, the higher the NPC. But contrary to NPC, COE value will decrease.

Indonesia currently has a growing need for energy, this will experience an energy crisis, dependence on fossil fuels will at least have a serious threat, therefore there must be alternative energy as a substitute and reserve such as wind energy, water energy, solar energy, and other. This study aims to develop a wind power plant as an alternative source to produce electrical energy, namely a wind turbine. This tool is used to meet energy needs and also as an alternative energy so that fossil fuels will not run out. Because Indonesia is an archipelagic country and is located on the equator, Indonesia is a country that has abundant resources, one of which is wind. Wind turbine is a tool that functions to convert wind power into mechanical power in the form of a shaft rotation, this shaft rotation is then used for power generation or for water pumps. Therefore I tried to develop my ideas to utilize abundant natural resources to be used as a source of electrical energy by means of a wind turbine using a Naca 0018 blade. This study aims to determine the effect of the number of blades, the effect of profiles, the effect of the wing tip of the rotor blades. , naca 0018, and the resulting energy efficiency. This study uses the type of experimental research.

Electrical Energy is a very important need, but the electrical energy we use today still comes from conventional power plants that have negative threats such as pollution and fossil fuel reserves that are decreasing. To overcome this, by utilizing alternative energy that is environmentally friendly, one of them is wind energy and solar energy. Hybrid power plants use savonius helix wind turbines and solar cells are made to minimize the use of conventional energy. This tool utilizes wind and solar energy as the main media of electricity generation. The wind turbine which is made is a type of helix savonius vertical turbine that has a large torque, can rotate with low wind speed with a turbine size 80 cm high, diameter 25 cm which is connected to the generator and mounted on mechanical construction with a height of 200 cm and mounted control panel and solar cell with a capacity of 20 WP. This study aims to develop the potential of alternative energy as a power generation medium and be used as a source of flashing lights in the Indorama Engineering Polytechnic lightning tower tower. Savonius helix wind turbines that are designed require a minimum wind speed of 2.45 m / s for the start of the turbine rotation. Generating from the generator produces a maximum voltage of 18.64 V with a generator rotation of 304 rpm when not loaded and when loaded produces a maximum spin voltage of 281.3 rpm, 11.73 V voltage and 0.038 W power with a wind speed of 5 m/s. From the results of testing this hybrid power plant can be used for flashing lights on the lightning rod tower of the Indorama Polytechnic Engineering campus with a duration of 12 hours per day.
