In this paper an original method for obtaining glass-ceramics based on barium iodide powder activated with Eu2+ is proposed, their structural and spectral-luminescent properties are investigated. X-ray diffraction analysis has evidenced that glass-ceramics containing BaI2 ∙ 2H2O and BaI2 are formed when 50 mas. % of the starting iodide powder is used in the synthesis process. The possibility of using glass-ceramics for preventing the contact of iodide powder with water vapor has been confirmed.

The addition of CaO to Li2O–Al2O3–SiO2–TiO2(LAST), forming the Li2O–CaO–Al2O3–SiO2–TiO2(LCAST) system, is used in the preparation of low themal expansion coefficient glass-ceramics. By a progressive weight percent substitution of CaO for SiO2, at constant ratios of concentration of Li2O, Al2O3, and TiO2, a number of properties of these glasses have been studied. The results indicated that these thermal properties increased progressively with increasing CaO concentration. X-ray diffraction analysis was utilized to identify the crystalline phase in glass-ceramics of the Li2O–CaO–Al2O3–SiO2-TiO2system. Thed-spacings of the major crystallites were precisely measured and fitted with those of β-spodumene. The minor crystalline phase of titanite, CaO · TiO2· SiO2, was also present. The average thermal expansion coefficients from 25 to 700 °C were 3.50 × 10−6/°C, 3.81 × 10−6/°C, and 3.91 × 10−6/°C for samples A, B, and C, respectively.

The main purpose of this work was to carry out a low-temperature synthesis of glass ceramics containing YNbO4:Eu3+ crystallites and to study the structural and luminescent properties of the obtained samples. Within the framework of this work, the inclusions that crystallized under the conditions of low-temperature synthesis in the systems of SiO2-Na2O-K2O-Y2O3-Nb2O5-Eu2O3 (SiNaK) and B2O5-Na2O-Y2O3-Nb2O5-Eu2O3 (BNa) were investigated for the first time. It was shown that YNbO4: Eu3+ crystallized in both considered systems. In the SiNaK system the crystallization of SiO2 also occurred (quartz, crisstabolite, and tridymite) under the selected conditions. The BNa system proved to be the most promising for the synthesis of activated glass-ceramics with YNbO4, since the required crystallites crystallized only in ithis system. The luminescent properties of crystalline inclusions were investigated using the local cathodoluminescence technique. The composition and structure of glass ceramics were studied by electron-probe microanalysis and X-ray diffraction phase analysis.

In this paper an original method for obtaining glass ceramic samples based on iodides of alkaline-earth elements activated by Eu2+ is proposed, their structural and spectral-luminescent properties are studied. The formation of glass ceramic samples containing both anhydrous iodides of alkaline-earth elements and crystalline hydrates of iodides of alkaline-earth element is confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis when using in the synthesis process from 30 to 60 wt .% BaI2 : Eu2+, from 40 to 50 wt. % SrI2 : Eu2+ and 40 wt. % CaI2 : Eu2+. The possibility of adjusting the resulting color of glass ceramic samples emission (from blue to purple-red) by varying its composition is shown.

AbstractThe crystal structure of the [Dy(NО_3)_2(HMPA)_4](NО_3) complex (HMPA is hexamethylphosphorotriamide) is studied by X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystals are constructed of two crystallographically independent complex cations [Dy(NО_3)_2(HMPA)_4]^+ and outer-sphere [NO_3]^−1 groups. The structure is represented by separate С_24Н_72DyN_15O_13P_4 complexes bound by van der Waals interactions with pronounced layered morphology. The coordination polyhedron of Dy(III) with coordination number 8 is represented by a distorted trigonal prism with two centered square faces. The results of investigation of the luminescent properties in the visible and near-IR regions are presented.

Glass-ceramics with the composition B2O3-Bi2O3-SrF2 were synthesized by the conventional melt-quenching technique and subsequent crystallization of the parental glasses. The temperature at which the ceramization was carried out was selected based on differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis. The structure of the studied materials and the formation of SrF2 nanocrystals were confirmed by the Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) techniques. It was found that the amount of strontium fluoride introduced into the parental borate-bismuth glass has a significant impact on the growth of SrF2 nanocrystals. In particular, the influence of the crystalline SrF2 phase on luminescence intensity and kinetics was studied using Eu2O3-doped samples. An increase in luminescence intensity was observed in the samples in which SrF2 nanocrystals were formed. This is most likely related to the fact that some of the Eu3+ ions were (after annealing of the glass) located in the crystalline structure of strontium fluoride. This was confirmed both by the luminescence lifetime obtained based on the luminescence decay curves and the calculated Judd–Ofelt parameters, Ω2 and Ω4. The results achieved confirm that the glasses and glass-ceramics described in this work could be considered as a new phosphor for light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

Thermolysis of [8,8-(PMe2Ph)2-nido-8,7-PtCB9H11] in boiling toluene solution results in an elimination of the platinum centre and cluster closure to give the ten-vertex closo species [6-(PMe2Ph)-closo-1-CB9H9] in 85% yield as a colourles air stable solid. The product is characterized by NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Crystals (from hexane-dichloromethane) are monoclinic, space group P21/c, with a = 903.20(9), b = 1 481.86(11), c = 2 320.0(2) pm, β = 97.860(7)° and Z = 8, and the structure has been refined to R(Rw) = 0.045(0.051) for 3 281 observed reflections with Fo > 2.0σ(Fo). The clean high-yield elimination of a metal centre from a polyhedral metallaborane or metallaheteroborane species is very rare.

Dinuclear rhodium(I) η2:η2-cycloocta-1,5-diene (series a) and η2:η2-norborna-2,5-diene (series b) complexes with μ-RCOO- ligands, where R is linear C21H43 (complexes 1a, 1b), CH2CMe3 (2a, 2b), 1-adamantyl (3a, 3b) and benzyl (4a, 4b), have been prepared and characterized by spectroscopic methods. Structures of complexes 2b, 3a and 4a were determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. Complexes prepared show low to moderate catalytic activity in polymerization of phenylacetylene in THF giving high-cis-transoid polymers, but they show only oligomerization activity in dichloromethane.
