Reading is a key factor in building personality and refining it. It provides the reader with the knowledge and experience that he may not be able to acquire directly through reading. It is also the tool of the student in acquiring his academic sciences and expanding knowledge horizons. "Whoever does not read well does not get well," he said. This research deals with the problems of reading among students with all the difficulties surrounding them. These problems arise from the fact that the readable text is boring. Therefore, the reading should use different sources of erotic hearts.

This paper aims to propose a new approach of territorial competitiveness assessment revisited from the resource-based view, as the combination of location-specific resources and capabilities can improve the territorial socio-economic development. A territorial competitiveness index is calculated in order to assess the potential of renewable energy sources to improve the sustainable development in islands. Different sources of information and methodologies have been employed to measure the variables included in the model, thus ensuring a rigorous process in the index calculation. In order to quantify the basic resources, for example, a methodology based on a multicriteria analysis (MCA) with geographic information system (GIS) is suggested, with the objective of obtaining an indicator called index of available territorial resources. This index synthesizes the map information through a numerical value that allows integrating the territorial resource with other indicators of the model. The results of the study show that capability development is a key factor to better exploit the territorial resource endowment in order to achieve a competitive advantage.

Abstract Terpenoid lactones in Ginkgo biloba leaves are the main active constituents and the content of these terpenes is therefore the key factor for evaluating the quality of the leaves, the extract, and its preparations distributed on the market. The precleanup sample solutions were applied onto the silica gel plate modified with sodium acetate solution and developed with a solvent system of toluene–ethyl acetate–acetone–methanol, and a fluorescence chromatogram was generated by means of postchromatographic thermal chemical reaction. Fluorescence scanning was conducted quantitatively. The methodology validation confirmed that it is a practical alternative for routine quality control for ginkgo terpenes and the results are comparable with those obtained by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). On the basis of the method established, a quality survey of the various commercial ginkgo products from different sources was undertaken. The obtained data demonstrated that the fluctuation of the content of individual terpene and/or the total terpenes among replicate samples is so significant as to cast doubts on the consistency of their pharmacological and clinical efficacy.

Abstract Where nationality, coupled to minority language, forms a key factor of identities, and there is a history of conflict, it may be difficult for the police to command trust. In north-west Wales, Welsh is the language of the majority. Against the background of historic experiences of exploitation, oppression, and perceived neglect by English authorities, many locals have a negative view of the UK police. But what characterises those who are most in opposition? A total of 283 students at Bangor University participated in a questionnaire study. Results show that students who prefer to communicate in Welsh rather than English are more likely to distrust the UK police. While there are deep rooted tensions based on national identity, the police may gain trust from different sources compensating the cultural divide. They include mass media reports and experiences with the police. Overall however, the results support the group position theory applied to relations between people identifying with different nations.

The major problem of blind source separation in frequency domain is the permutation ambiguity between different frequency bins, which is the key factor to recover the original sources correctly. A new idea is to consider the frequency components from the same source as a multivariate vector with a certain probability density function, and the vectors from different sources are independent each other. An algorithm based on this idea is proposed to solve the permutation ambiguity problem of BSS in frequency domain, and some approximate cost functions are compared with the existing algorithm in frequency domain. The computer simulations to two true speeches with strong reverberation are shown to verify the efficiency of the proposed algorithm.

AbstractReplicability of findings is the key factor of scientific reliability. However, literature on this topic is scarce and apparently taboo for large scientific areas. Some authors named the failure to reproduce scientific findings ‘replication crisis’. Geometric morphometrics, a vastly used technique, is especially silent on replication crisis concern. Nevertheless, some works pointed out that sharing morphogeometric information is not a trivial fact, but need to be careful and meticulous. Here, we investigated the replicability of geometric morphometrics protocols on complex shapes and measurement error extension in three different types of taxa, as well as the potentiality of these protocols to discriminate among closely related species. We found a wide range of replication error that contributed from 19.5% to 60% of the total variation. Although, measurement error decreased with the complexity of the quantified shape, it often maintained high values. All protocols were able to discriminate between species, but more morphogeometric information does not imply better performance. We present evidence of replication crisis in life sciences and highlight the need to explore in deep different sources of variation that could lead to low replicability findings. Lastly, we enunciate some recommendations in order to improve the replicability and reliability of scientific findings.

Titanium (Ti) dental implants have been used widely for many years. Long term implant failures are related, in part, to the development of peri-implantitis frequently associated with bacteria. Bacterial adherence and colonization have been considered a key factor in the pathogenesis of many biomaterial based infections. Without the initial attachment of oral bacteria to Ti-implant surfaces, subsequent polymicrobial accumulation and colonization leading to peri-implant disease cannot occur. The overall goal of this study is to examine the implant-oral bacterial interfaces and gain a greater understanding of their attachment characteristics and mechanisms. Since the detailed cell surface ultrastructure involved in attachment is only discernible at the electron microscopy level, the study is complicated by the technical problem of obtaining titanium implant and attached bacterial cells in the same ultra-thin sections. In this study, a technique was developed to facilitate the study of Ti implant-bacteria interface.Discs of polymerized Spurr’s resin (12 mm x 5 mm) were formed to a thickness of approximately 3 mm using an EM block holder (Fig. 1). Titanium was then deposited by vacuum deposition to a film thickness of 300Å (Fig. 2).

Purpose This article introduces the Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools Forum: Morphological Awareness as a Key Factor in Language-Literacy Success for Academic Achievement. The goal of this forum is to relate the influence morphological awareness (MA) has on overall language and literacy development with morphology acting as the “binding agent” between orthography, phonology, and semantics ( Perfetti, 2007 ) in assessment and intervention for school-aged children. Method This introduction provides a foundation for MA development and explores the influence MA has over the course of school-aged language and literacy development. Through summaries of the 11 articles in this forum, school-based speech-language pathologists will be able to convey the importance of MA to promote successful educational outcomes for kindergarten to adolescent students. The forum explores researcher-developed assessments used to help identify MA skill level in first- through eighth-grade students at risk for literacy failure to support instructional needs. The forum also provides school-based speech-language pathologists with details to design and implement MA interventions to support academic success for school-aged students with varying speech-language needs (e.g., dual language emersion, vocabulary development, reading comprehension) using various service delivery models (e.g., small group, classroom-based, intensive summer camps). Conclusion MA is effective in facilitating language and literacy development and as such can be an ideally focused on using multilinguistic approaches for assessment and intervention. The articles in this issue highlight the importance in assessment measures and intervention approaches that focus on students' MA to improve overall academic success in children of all ages and abilities.
