Learning English is the activity for getting the knowledge about English. English should be learned since the beginner level to the advance level. There are some characteristics of students in learning process at classroom, such as they can pay attention to the teacher, and have purpose in learn. It is called Self-Regulated Learning. The design of this research was descriptive qualitative research. The setting of this research is FKIP Universitas Muhammadiyah Tangerang. There were five classes English Language Department at Fourth Year English Language Department. From five class, there were choosing 30 students for the participant. In choosing the participants the researcher used purposive sampling. The researcher used questionnaire to collect the data, and used peer debriefing to check the trustworthiness of the data. The result showed that process of self-regulated learning that used by students were goal setting, planning, self-motivation, attention control, self-monitoring, help-seeking, and self-evaluation. The highest of total value was goal setting 440, self-monitoring with the total value 420, self-evaluation with the total value 410, self-motivation with the total value 392, help-seeking with the total value 306, planning with the total value 305, and the least is attention control with the total value 300. The highest of total value of self-regulated learning was goal setting. So, it can be concluded that the fourth year students of FKIP Universitas Muhammadiyah Tangerang had applied the process of self-regulated learning, the most implemented process was goal setting and the least process was attention control. There is increasing interest in the importance of Self-Regulated Learning for the improvement of academic and clinical performance. Self-Regulated Learning is a dynamic and cyclical metacognitive process that coordinates an individual’s skill (techniques) and will (motivation) to achieve a clearly defined task. There are differences in key Self-Regulated Learning processes between high and low performers, especially goal setting and self-monitoring. Formative feedback on the use of key Self-Regulated Learning processes, which can be identified using microanalysis before, during and after an individual performs a specific task, can lead to improved performance. There is increasing awareness of the importance of both the social and educational environment on the use of Self-Regulated Learning, including the essential influence of the teacher.

Abstract Background Understanding how health sciences students learn to perform clinical examinations is required to inform feedback that improves performance. Self-regulated learning (SRL) is an essential component of effective feedback. The key self-regulated learning processes can be identified using microanalysis. Self-regulated learning microanalysis is increasingly used to assess and inform the training of clinical skills in medical education but there are no studies on the use of self-regulated learning microanalysis to understand the performance of clinical examination by physiotherapy students. The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of using self-regulated learning microanalysis to understand how physiotherapy students use key self-regulated learning processes while performing a clinical examination. Method SRL microanalysis assessed the self-regulated learning processes of second year physiotherapy students of a Spanish university (n= 26) as they performed a goniometric evaluation. An analysis of inter-rater reliability was also performed to evaluate the degree of agreement among raters. Results There were differences in the use of key self-regulated learning processes between successful (n= 15: 57.0%) and unsuccessful performers (n= 11: 43.0%), with differences in strategic planning, self-monitoring and the self-evaluation phases. There was good inter-rater reliability for scoring strategic planning (k=0.792), self-monitoring (k=0.946) and self-evaluation (k=0.846). Conclusion SRL microanalysis is a feasible approach to identify the key self-regulated learning processes of the performance of clinical examination by physiotherapy students. Further research with larger number of students and a variety of tasks is recommended.

ObjectivesThe formative aspect of the mini-clinical evaluation exercise (mini-CEX) in postgraduate medical workplace-based assessment is intended to afford opportunities for active learning. Yet, there is little understanding of the perceived relationship between the mini-CEX and how trainees self-regulate their learning. Our objective was to explore trainees’ perceptions of their mini-CEX experiences from a learning perspective, using Zimmerman’s self-regulated learning theoretical framework as an interpretive lens.DesignQualitative, using semi-structured interviews conducted in 2017. The interviews were analysed thematically.SettingGeriatric medicine training.ParticipantsPurposive sampling was employed to recruit geriatric medicine trainees in Melbourne, Australia. Twelve advanced trainees participated in the interviews.ResultsFour themes were found with a cyclical inter-relationship between three of these themes: namely, goal setting, task translation and perceived outcome. These themes reflect the phases of the self-regulated learning framework. Each phase was influenced by the fourth theme, supervisor co-regulation. Goal setting had motivational properties that had significant impact on the later phases of the cycle. A ‘tick box’ goal aligned with an opportunistic approach and poorer perceived educational outcomes. Participants reported that external feedback following assessment was critical for their self-evaluation, affective responses and perceived outcomes.ConclusionsTrainees perceived the performance of a mini-CEX as a complex, inter-related cyclical process, influenced at all stages by the supervisor. Based on our trainee perspectives of the mini-CEX, we conclude that supervisor engagement is essential to support trainees to individually regulate their learning in the clinical environment.

The focus of this article is Self-Regulated Learning (SRL). Students who can effectively use strategies to regulate their own learning tend to show higher academic achievement, make greater effort to resolve problems, overcome obstacles in understanding and show greater motivation to learn (Zimmerman 1990). Although there are a wide variety of ways in which students self-regulate, this essay focuses on three specific types of SRL: goal setting, language learning strategy usage and self-monitoring. It examines research in each of the three categories and discusses some practical implications for teachers. 本論は、自己調整学習(SRL:Self-Regulated Learning)に焦点を当てたものである。自分の学習を調整するストラテジーを効果的に用いる学生は、より優れた学習成果を示し、問題解決により努力し、理解への障害を克服し、より明確な学習動機を持つ傾向がみられる(Zimmerman, 1990)。学生の自己調整の方法は幅広く多岐に富んでいるが、本論ではSRLの特定の3 つの型(目標設定、言語学習ストラテジーの用い方、セルフ・モニタリング)に焦点を当てた。この3種類についての各研究結果を調査し、更に教師に役立つ指導方法についても考察する。

This study investigated the intervention of a weekly learning diary on design students’ self-regulated learning in an online learning environment. A total of 54 undergraduate students from an intermediate and an advanced course respectively participated in this study. In a 7-week period of online learning, the students had to complete a course project on their own. Synchronous online learning with the Microsoft Teams program was adopted for students to have real-time learning as well as recordings for after-class reviewing. The results revealed that the structured weekly diary was helpful for the students’ goal setting, time management, self-monitoring, and self-evaluation. Students with clear strategies of time management mostly had better performance. The students had an upward trend of self-monitoring and self-evaluation. Regarding their self-efficacy, the freshman class did not change greatly over time but the senior class steadily built up confidence in online learning and self-regulated learning. Nevertheless, the process and experiences of online self-regulated learning with the intervention of the learning diary influenced the design students to a certain degree.

Despite arguments about the importance of self-regulated learning (SRL) in massive open online courses (MOOCs) (Terras & Ramsay, 2015), understanding of the topic is limited. This study offers a systematic review of empirical research on SRL in MOOCs. It revealed that the body of literature on SRL in MOOCs has grown from 2014 to 2016. The content analysis findings show that SRL was a factor positively influencing learning in MOOCs. SRL strategies were identified, including motivational regulation strategies, specifically self-efficacy, task value, and goal setting. Particular cognitive regulation strategies were not identified, and goal setting was found as a metacognitive regulation strategy. Regarding behavioural and contextual regulation strategies, help seeking, time management, and effort regulation were identified. In addition, several MOOC designs and SRL interventions that consider unique characteristics of MOOCs were proposed to promote SRL. Implications of these findings and future research are discussed.

Background Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) is defined as the adjustment of the individual's affective, meta-cognitive, and behavioral operations during learning to attain the desired level of academic achievement. It is an important skill for undergraduate students and its ignorance cause anxious behavior, a sense of potential failure, and avoidance of learning situations. Objective The objective of the study was to explore the pattern of SRL among medical students from a student perspective aiming to recognize the learning context and to provide recommendations for future support strategies. Methods This is a cross-sectional study that targeted a total coverage of medical students at the University of Tabuk, Saudi Arabia using a Self-Regulated Learning Questionnaire which composed of six constructs, namely: environment structuring, goal setting, time management, help-seeking, task strategies, and self-evaluation. An independent-samples test, ANOVA, and post-hoc analysis were conducted.   Results Females agreed on regular practice of the four domains namely: "environmental structuring, time management, help-seeking, and self-evaluation", mean scores: 3.7(SD=1.023), 3.42(SD=1.035), 3.68(SD=0.99), 3.54(SD=0.94) respectively. Conclusion This study identified a remarkable difference in SRL among undergraduate medical students. Females outperformed males in self-regulation; however, both genders in the second year have shown a low level in self-regulation in comparison to fifth year medical students. To enhance the will and the skills to express thoughts explicitly and effectively in early writing among preschool children, self-regulated learning (SRL) was suggested for preschool children as one of the effective learning approaches. This quasi-experimental study involved seventy-five preschool children (5-6 years old) from two public preschools in Selangor, Malaysia. This study investigated the effects of SRL strategies on early writing self-efficacy and early writing performance among preschool children. Interview data was engaged and supported the quantitative result to obtain a deep insight of the findings. Two-way Repeated Measure ANCOVA was employed and confirmed the effectiveness of self-regulated learning intervention with an interaction effect between the test and group for early writing self-efficacy being statistically significant (F(1, 72) = 12.665; p = 0.001, 2= 0.150), with Cohen’s d = 0.84;  and early writing performance statistically significant (F(1, 72) = 110.801; p < 0.001, 2= 0.606), with Cohen’s d = 2.84. The result also confirmed that self-monitoring and controlling (F (5, 69) = 17.934, p < 0.001), with an adjusted R² = 0.534, was a strong predictor for early writing self-efficacy, and planning and goal setting (F(5, 69) = 12.706, p< 0.001), with an adjusted R² = 0.442, were a strong predictor for early writing performance. Eleven self-regulated learning strategies used emerged from the interviews’ data pertaining to different contexts. According to the participant children, planning and goal setting, self-monitoring, and self-evaluation were the strategies that will assure their writing quality. These responses supported the results produced by the quantitative data. The findings of this research provide a useful insight into early writing and self-regulated learning instructions in the Malaysian preschool context.

This study aimed to adapt and validate a Chinese version of the online self-regulated learning questionnaire (COSLQ) with Chinese junior secondary students in Hong Kong. A total of 716 students from six schools participated voluntarily in the study. Overall, the findings of this study supported the COSLQ’s psychometric quality. The COSLQ subscales all demonstrated high internal consistency. Different measurement models were tested using confirmatory factor analysis. The results indicated that a 7-factor model best fit the data, suggesting that the participants could distinguish seven types of online self-regulatory strategies: goal setting, environment structuring, time management, effort regulation, cognitive/monitoring strategies, help seeking, and self-evaluation.
