With the BIM applications on fast-track, it is being used for new construction and recently being utilized for renovation, retrofitting, and repairing purposes. Although many studies have been conducted to identify BIM capabilities in renovation projects, the application of 4D BIM for both the demolition and the construction phases of renovation projects is still underdeveloped. This paper presents a guideline to apply 4D BIM for complicated renovation projects that include demolition and construction phases. The paper represents a step-by-step process from the extraction of information from a 2D model and converting it into a 4D model. The proposed guideline will help CAD users to apply 4D BIM for complicated renovation model. A real case application is analyzed to demonstrate the potential of the presented guideline. The research results show that the proposed guideline could assist in construction management by finding out inappropriate sequences in schedule, conducting evaluation of issues related to constructability, and identifying disagreements in time and space. The proposed guideline could help identify errors in construction scheduling, which have the potential to reduce project cost and duration.

The growing use of professional construction management has been synonymous with the development of new project delivery systems such as the phased construction approach and the fast-tracking technique. This paper establishes the distinction between these two types of approach which have become increasingly popular for reducing project duration. The paper further illustrates, through a case study, the possible consequences of compressing and overlapping design activities in a fast-track program to expedite project delivery. A delay analysis shows the impact of this accelerated technique on construction activities. The far-reaching effect of mistakes during the early design/engineering phase in a fast-track program is usually underrated. Accelerating a project through fast-tracking is a major decision, and construction professionals often are not aware of its implications. Based on the case study examined in this paper and other fast-track constructions previously analyzed, trouble areas requiring special attention have been depicted and recommendations with regard to the effective use of this technique are presented. It has also been shown that if intensified effort on problem areas is lacking, such a popular accelerated technique could result in unexpected delays. AbstractThis paper proposes a semantic framework for Business Model evaluation and its application to a real case study in the context of smart energy and sustainable mobility. It presents an ontology based representation of an original business model and examples of inferential rules for knowledge extraction and automatic population of the ontology. The real case study belongs to the GreenCharge European Project, that in these last years is proposing some original business models to promote sustainable e-mobility plans. An original OWL Ontology contains all relevant Business Model concepts referring to GreenCharge’s domain, including a semantic description of TestCards, survey results and inferential rules.

The purpose of this study is to investigate knowledge management aspects on organizational performance of Sepah Bank in Ardebil Province. Research population includes all the employees, deputies and managers of Sepah Bank branches in Ardebil Province, which according to the table of Morgan, includes a total number of 169 subjects. Standard questionnaires were used for data collection. Research results showed that knowledge management aspects (knowledge storage, sharing and using) had a positive and significant effect on organizational performance variable and in general 80 percent of variance determines the organizational performance of Sepah Bank in Ardebil.

Contemporary research stresses the need to reduce mankind’s environmental impacts and achieve sustainability. One of the keys to this is the construction sector. New buildings have to comply with strict limits regarding resource consumption (energy, water use, etc.). However, they make up only a fraction of the existing building stock. Renovations of existing buildings are therefore essential for the reduction of the environmental impacts in the construction sector. This paper illustrates the situation using a case study of a rural terraced house in a village near Brno, Czech Republic. It compares the life-cycle assessment (LCA) of the original house and its proposed renovation as well as demolition followed by new construction. The LCA covers both the initial embodied environmental impacts (EEIs) and the 60-year operation of the house with several variants of energy sources. The results show that the proposed renovation would reduce overall environmental impacts (OEIs) of the house by up to 90% and the demolition and new construction by up to 93% depending on the selected energy sources. As such, the results confirm the importance of renovations and the installation of environmentally-friendly energy sources for achieving sustainability in the construction sector. They also show the desirability of the replacement of inefficient old buildings by new construction in specific cases.
