Through a randomized control design, this study examines whether tobacco consumption contributes to mood change and social enhancement in dyadic conversation. In addition, we would like to focus on the difference between smoking device and cigarette use. Specifically, we compare the intrapersonal and interpersonal communication in dyadic conversation among the cigarette group, the smoking device cigarette group, the water group, and the nothing consumption group. In the present study, 80 participants engaged in a dyadic, face-to-face, unstructured conversation with a stranger of the same gender. Regarding intrapersonal communication, no significant differences were found between the groups’ POMS 2 subscale scores (anger-hostility, confusion-bewilderment, depression-dejection, tension-anxiety, fatigue-inertia, vigour-activity, and friendliness). The smoking device and cigarette groups had greater rapport than the water group. Moreover, the smoking device group were more satisfied with dyadic conversation than the water group. Finally, there were no significant differences in verbal communication among the groups.

The research treats letters to one’s younger (usually teen) self posted on the Internet as epistolary genre marked with peculiar linguistic and pragmatic features. Though the letters to one’s self imply intrapersonal communication, i.e. the sender is identical to the addressee, it is not how the sender perceives the situation, which is revealed by the use of pronouns (I for the sender and you for the younger self). However, these two may merge and then we appears to refer to the author’s younger and current selves. Another feature of the letters is roles assumed by the addressors. They may occur as a mentor to their rebellious and anxious younger self, which correlates with the purpose of the letter – giving advice. Alternatively, the authors may position themselves as omniscient fortune-tellers who step in in times of trouble to offer support to their teen self by telling what is there to come. Each of the two roles and purposes correlates with specific language means. The mentor role turns the letter into a lesson where the Imperative Mood prevails. The role of a fortune-teller transforms the letter into an autobiographical sketch told in a bizarre way: the author shifts past events into the future with the help of deictic markers (e.g., today, this) and tenses (e.g., future tenses or their synonyms such as constructions to be about to and to be going to). The letters to one’s younger self that contain an autobiographical component provide the researcher with an insight into the process of identity construction, since they show how one endows identity with continuity and bridge the divide between one’s teen and adult selves. In addition, the letters meant as advice deliver the culture specific idea of what ‘a good life’ is: they are written to guide their actual intended audience, i.e. Internet (teen) users, in modern society and inform them of true values and right choices.

<p><em>Balinese comes in contact with 3 ideologic concepts such as: Tattwa (philosophy), Susila (behaviour), and Upacara (ritual). Those basic concepts will integrate and realize each other in Yadnya practices. There are 2 forms of Yadnya, such as Sekala and Niskala. Sekala is sacrifice by doing. While Niskala is sacrifice through offering to God with prabhavan.Yadnya requires infrastuctures symbolically, which is implemented through ritual. Ngaben Matuun is Yadnya which is included in Pitra Yadnya as a sacrifaction for pitara.</em></p><p><em>Symbolic communication aspects in ngaben matuun will be investigated through relevant aspects of communication in that ritual, such as intrapersonal communication, interpersonal communication, group communication, body symbol meaning, perpetuation meaning, social adaptation meaning, offerings symbolic meaning, palmyra palm leaves meaning in Kunduh meaning.</em></p><p><em>Ngaben ritual process is started by hitting kentongan 5 times, bathing the dead body using cendana water, corpse bathing ritual, pangerigkesan, buried. Matuun has some steps, such as mapekeling, nanceb salon, mapekeling ngaturang pelabaan, the main steps is ental burning and kunduh burying.</em></p><p><em>Ngaben ritual purpose is to bring unsure back to Panca Maha Butha and atma to pitara by breaking the relation with the body. The unsure will be back to Panca Maha Butha quicker through pengabenan. Through pengabenan, Balinese people believe that it can bring unsure back to Panca Maha Butha as well as doing child obligation for parents. Ngaben ritual has many functions, such as religious function, obligation function, social economical function, ethical function, and esthetical function.</em></p>

Nursing students experience difficulties when communicating in clinical practice. Their self-efficacy in clinical communication should be explored as part of their competence assessment before they are exposed to real human interactions in the clinical setting. The aim of this study was to design and psychometrically evaluate a toolkit to comprehensively assess nursing students’ self-efficacy in clinical communication. The study followed an observational cross-sectional design. A sample of 365 nursing students participated in the study. The ‘Clinical Communication Self-Efficacy Toolkit’ (CC-SET) was comprised of three tools: the ‘Patient-Centered Communication Self-efficacy Scale’ (PCC-SES), the ‘Patient clinical Information Exchange and interprofessional communication Self-Efficacy Scale’ (PIE-SES), and the ‘Intrapersonal communication and Self-Reflection Self-Efficacy Scale’ (ISR-SES). The tools’ reliability, validity (content, criterion, and construct) and usability were rigorously tested. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of the three tools comprising the CC-SET was very high and demonstrated their excellent reliability (PCC-SES = 0.93; PIE-SES = 0.87; ISR-SES = 0.86). The three tools evidenced to have excellent content validity (scales’ content validity index > 0.95) and very good criterion validity. Construct validity analysis demonstrated that the PCC-SES, PIE-SES, and ISR-SES have a clear and theoretically-congruent structure. The CC-SET is a comprehensive toolkit that allows the assessment of nursing students’ self-efficacy in interpersonal, interprofessional, and intrapersonal communication.
