Various efforts have been made worldwide to reduce energy use for heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems and lower carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Research and development are essential to ensuring the efficient use of renewable energy systems. This study proposes a multiple sources and multiple uses heat pump (MMHP) system that can efficiently respond to heating, cooling, and domestic hot water (DHW) loads using multiple natural heat sources. The MMHP system uses ground and air heat as its primary heat sources and solar heat for heat storage operations and ground temperature recovery. For the efficient use of each heat source, it also determines the heat source required for operation by comparing the heat source temperatures in the same time zone. A model for predicting the heat source temperatures, electricity use, and coefficient of performance (COP) was constructed through simulation. To analyze the efficiency of the proposed system by comparing the existing air source heat pump with ground source heat pump systems, a performance analysis was conducted by setting regional and system configurations as case conditions. The results demonstrate that the electricity use of the MMHP system was 13–19% and 1–3% lower than those of air source heat pump (ASHP) and ground source (GSHP) systems, respectively. In addition, the MMHP system was the most favorable in regions with a low heating load.

Composition and operating modes of two different solar-assisted heat pump systems have been introduced in this paper. The advantages of compound heat pump system are analyzed compared with solo heat pump system. Solar-assisted air source heat pump system not only has the advantages, which air source heat pump system (ASHP) has, but also makes good use of renewable solar energy. It can provide cooling, heating and living hot water all the year. Solar-assisted ground source heat pump system realizes advantage complementation in various seasons between solar heat water system and ground source heat pump (GSHP) system. Solar-assisted ground source heat pump system can adjust the system operating model to solve the disadvantage of sole GSHP system, whose performance decrease for the temperature change of soil for long time operating with annual cool and heat unbalancedness. GSHP system can effectively increase the operating stability with the assistance of solar energy.

The thermal performance of a new two-stage variable capacity air source heat pump (ASHP) and a horizontal ground loop ground source heat pump (GSHP) was investigated side-by-side at the Archetype Sustainable Twin Houses located in Toronto, Canada. The heat pumps were tested in cooling mode, as well as heating mode under extreme winter conditions. In cooling mode, the ASHP COP ranged from 4.7 to 5.7 at an outdoor temperature of 33 degrees C and 16 degrees C respectively, while the GSHP COP ranged from 4.9 (at an ELT of 8.5 degrees C and EST of 19.2 degrees C) to 5.6 (at an ELT of 12. 4 degrees C and EST of 17.8 degrees C). In heating mode, the ASHP COP ranged from 1.79 to 5.0 at an outdoor temperature of -19 degrees C and 9 degrees C respectively, while the GSHP COP ranged from 3.05 (at an ELT of 44.4 degrees C and an EST of 2.7 degrees C) to 3.44 (at an ELT of 41.5 degrees C and an EST of 5.48 degrees C) during the earlier winter test period. Data extrapolation and energy simulation was also performed to predict annual heat pump performance in Toronto as well as other Canadian regions.

An air source heat pump system (ASHPS) was set up, which provided space heating and cooling, as well as hot water for an office building in Tianjin. Its operating performance in winter was evaluated based on test data. Considering the local abundant solar radiation and the way to provide energy in an office building, a simulation study was carried out on the combsystem of ASHP and flat plate air collector (FPAC). The effects of collector area and its outlet parameters on the heating performance of ASHP were studied, and the favorable operating and matching mode were recommended. The results indicate that ASHPS is a technically viable method in Tianjin in winter, but not economically, and the air-solar combsystem should be taken into account for its massive replacement for conventional energy.

Based on the finite-time thermodynamic theory, an operation optimization, of water source heat pump in the combined solar with a dual heat source heat pump which is applied in a greenhouse heating system, is made. According to the ε-NTU method and entropy theory, heat exchange and balance equations are obtained. The function relationship between COP and the indoor temperature Tn, the ambient temperature Ta, low temperature heat source inlet temperature Tie and high temperature heat source inlet temperature Tic is also obtained. By means of programming, the impact of parameters on the COP and the way of regulating this water source heat pump system are presented in this article. The results show that: when a separate water source heat pump is running, by adjusting the hot water temperature and the match status of each indoor heating system, the energy-saving operation can be realized.

In order to contribute to widespread use of RES in Turkey, a solar-assisted ground source heat pump system was modeled using TRNSYS software and simulated for heating and supplying daily hot water to meet the needs of a restaurant in five sample provinces having different climatic conditions. During the simulation, the dining room temperature of the restaurant was kept constant at 22?C during the winter season and a total of 300 Lph of water (55?C) was used for 15 minutes four times a day. According to the simulation results, power consumption rates in the solar-assisted ground source heat pump system were determined as about 60% for the heat pump, 16% for heaters, 14% for the ground pump and 8% for fans and other pumps. The highest power consumption, as expected, was obtained for Hakkari Province (6723 kW) in the Eastern Anatolia region, which has a cold climate, while the lowest power consumption was obtained for Izmir Province (2822 kW) in the Aegean region, which has mild climatic conditions. The lowest seasonal performance factor and solar factor values were calculated as 2.27 and 32% for Hakkari and the highest as 2.71 and 56% for Izmir, respectively.

In winter,Many families use air source heat pump because of the low evaporation temperature of the system, resulting in lower heating efficiency of system. To solve this problem, the low temperature solar assisted hot water was added to the project which is on the basis of air source heat pump, and the system has been tested. After analysis of the collection efficiency of solar collectors at low temperatures and comparative analysis of the temperature cycle, pressure, energy consumption of the low-temperature solar-assisted systems and air source heat pump system, the optimal collector temperature and law of heat pump refrigerant cycle changes of the system were obtained. Theoretically, comparative analysis of low temperature air source heat pumps and solar hot water secondary air source heat pump compression ratio and COP. It gives the key parameters affecting the compression ratio and COP, pointing out ways to improve the heat pump COP. Finally, a key measure to improve the thermal performance of the unit system is proposed, to provide a reference for future practical applications and research. Foreword Air source heat pump in ambient air contains rich low grade solar potential as a source of heat, it has inexhaustible characteristics [1] . The main reason for restricting the use of air source heat pump in northern area of our country is when the outdoor air temperature is low in winter, the outdoor coil frost severe heating efficiency air source heat pump is greatly reduced. Martinez suggested experimental study on the application of solar radiant floor heating systems , solar water temperature is 50-60°C, low efficiency, especially when overcast snow lower system efficiency [2] .In view of the outdoor coil frosting problem, direct expansion solar assisted heat pump water heater system using the proposed by Li Yuwu, from a certain extent alleviated the problem of heat in winter for coil winter fros, improving the heating coefficient and improved the operating characteristics of the unit. However, this system requires the direct absorption of heat in air tube, and the specific heat of air is small, difficult to heat storage, illumination by solar radiation impact, unstable system operation [3]. Based on the above issues, for the low-level office building , the new rural residential , this study presents low temperature solar auxiliary air source heat pump system , the device uses low-temperature solar hot water heat pump system as low , both full use of solar energy , but also eliminates the original system frost problems and improve the efficiency of solar collectors and heat set to improve the evaporation temperature of the evaporator , thereby increasing the compression ratio of the heat pump unit .

We propose an integrated geothermal system that consists of air-conditioning and hot water service ground source heat pumps, both of which share a ground water loop. The proposed system increases the COP of the service hot water ground source heat pump by recovering the condensation heat of the air-conditioning ground source heat pump as an evaporator heat source for the hot water service ground source heat pump. Eventually this integration expands the scope and capacity of the evaporator source in addition to the underground water of heat exchangers, which also leads to increase the COP of the air-conditioning ground source heat pump. The integrated geothermal heat pump system was installed in a hotel, and then data were measured for a limited period due to the hotel’s ongoing business activities. A TRNSYS simulation model has been developed as a baseline, and the baseline has been calibrated with the measured data. By running one-year simulations, it turns out that the annual electricity use for heating and cooling, and service hot water was reduced by 19.1% in the cooling season, and by 9.6% in the heating season, with respect to the conventional configuration in which the air-conditioning heat pump and hot water service heat pump work individually on their own ground loops.

When the new student center at Stockholm University in Sweden was completed in the fall of 2013 it was thoroughly instrumented. The 6300 m2 four-story building with offices, a restaurant, study lounges, and meeting rooms was designed to be energy efficient with a planned total energy use of 25 kWh/m2/year. Space heating and hot water are provided by a ground source heat pump (GSHP) system consisting of five 40 kW off-the-shelf water-to-water heat pumps connected to 20 boreholes in hard rock, drilled to a depth of 200 m. Space cooling is provided by direct cooling from the boreholes. This paper uses measured performance data from Studenthuset to calculate the actual thermal performance of the GSHP system during one of its early years of operation. Monthly system coefficients-of-performance and coefficients-of-performance for both heating and cooling operation are presented. In the first months of operation, several problems were corrected, leading to improved performance. This paper provides long-term measured system performance data from a recently installed GSHP system, shows how the various system components affect the performance, presents an uncertainty analysis, and describes how some unanticipated consequences of the design may be ameliorated. Seasonal performance factors (SPF) are evaluated based on the SEPEMO (“SEasonal PErformance factor and MOnitoring for heat pump systems”) boundary schema. For heating (“H”), SPFs of 3.7 ± 0.2 and 2.7 ± 0.13 were obtained for boundaries H2 and H3, respectively. For cooling (“C”), a C2 SPF of 27 ± 5 was obtained. Results are compared to measured performance data from 55 GSHP systems serving commercial buildings that are reported in the literature.
