Making emergency evacuation plans for disaster prevention is always a high priority for hospital administrators to ensure the safety of patients and employees. This study employs the outpatient chemotherapy area of a cancer medical center as an example, and its area involves professional medical care and relatively complex human group behaviors. Hence, it is necessary to simulate evacuations in advance to formulate a special evacuation plan. To achieve this task, a constraint-based simulation system is developed with three major processes: defining spatial and activity constraints, agent-based modeling, and optimizing resource allocation. The spatial boundaries are converted from a three-dimensional model in the Building Information Modeling (BIM) to conduct a visualized simulation. Based on the spatial boundaries, the activities of the agents are set to obey the process specified by work studies. Finally, the Monte Carlo method is employed to simulate the stochastic rescue behaviors of nurses during disasters to determine the fittest resource allocation with the shortest evacuation time for different numbers of patients. The results reveal that the proposed system can output a suggested list of resource allocations and visualized results for administrators when making evacuation plans such that all the people in the area can be safely evacuated.

Although the essence of this methodology is based on the generation of a three-dimensional model, the visualization of it through two-dimensional devices means that the experience and interaction with the model is not complete. That is why the appearance in the market of new technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality, open a wide range of possibilities linked to the construction sector. In this sense, Acciona Engineering has developed a pilot project in collaboration with Trimble and Microsoft where, based on a BIM model, an augmented reality based on holograms has been created, allowing to recreate a simulation applied to construction

It is common occurrence that on-site workers misunderstand various detailing aspects of the provided documentation. Some of them can be unclear and should be discussed again due to construction related processes. In order to deal with this issue the application for mobile devices was proposed. The developed application allows to visualize two-dimensional print projects with the help of VR/AR (Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality) technology. The paper is focused on the assessment of the possibility to use the VR/AR technology during the process of construction. The feasibility of the solution is tested on the basis of a three-dimensional model created with the software operating in accordance with Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology. The developed mobile VR/AR solution was enhanced with basic functionality to verify structural members as well as entire structural system. Moreover, it allows to communicate in a simple manner, which can lead to the improving of the effectiveness and preventing the risk of construction errors.

Abstract. One of the main problems of rescue workers in confrontation of fired complex buildings is the lack of sufficient information about the building indoor environment and their emergency exit ways. Building information modeling (BIM) is a database for building a 3D model of building information to create a 3D building geometry network model. This paper has implemented some GIS and BIM integration analyses to determine the shortest and safest paths to people under fire risk and simulate their movement in the building. Plasco building was a multi-story shop in Tehran which has been fired in 2017 and destroyed. This paper attempts to simulate the firefighting and rescue operations in Plasco Building using an integration of BIM and GIS. There is no detailed information about the building and the fire incident, therefore the developed BIM and corresponding geometric network might differ slightly. The shortest and safest paths to the exit door or windows where the fire ladders are located are computed and analyzed. As a result of 15 scenarios developed in this paper, it was found that at 87% of the cases, the safest paths for the emergency exit of the people at risk were longer than the shortest paths. This study has evaluated different scenarios for the shortest and safest paths using Dijkstra algorithm considering different origins and destination points in the 3D indoor environment to assist the rescue operations.

Abstract Practical use of medical simulation system with virtual reality technology is expected because of the learning of the operation procedure. We have therefore developed a neurosurgical simulation system for minimally invasive surgery. Our system is composed of PC and one or two haptic interfaces. Operator can pick up the region of interest to specify the disease portion from DICOM format image data, then three-dimensional model have made by volume and surface rendering with this data. In the next step, system estimates and indicates on CRT the minimally invasive path from the head surface to the disease target that was picked up beforehand by this system which retains healthy human’s three-dimensional atlas data. Finally, the operator can perform a virtual surgery operation by the haptic interface that has been connected to PC, and can cut off an exact or approximate portion of the disease. The operator can feel the resistance from this virtual object. This operation process can be recorded for medical doctors to review later.

This work represents a paradigm shift in the approach to manage port infrastructure maintenance where the use of the building information modeling (BIM) method is very scarce, and it is now beginning. The new infrastructure conservation management method proposed in this manuscript combines traditional methods with new technology, covering the gap of the implementation of BIM in port maintenance. This new technology is the BIM method, and its use is already mandatory in public infrastructure projects in some countries. In this work, the BIM method is applied to the management of the conservation of port infrastructures to show the benefits that can be obtained using it. After the analysis of the state of the art in the conservation of port infrastructures, two of the main maritime works of the Outer Port of A Coruña were modeled in Revit. This as-built model serves as an inventory model and forms a large database of all the information regarding the conservation of the structures. In this way, all the data on the conservation of the port’s infrastructures are concentrated in a single source of information in which, in addition, there is a three-dimensional and georeferenced representation of the port in question. The main finding of this work is the development of a step by step method to implement BIM philosophy in port maintenance, highlighting the positive and negative points detected during the validation of the method in a real case, detecting future improvement research lines. Although BIM has a lot of advantages and possibilities just now, some improvements are still necessary.

In this study, by applying the developed formwork automation design software to three target structures, we reviewed the applicability of the formwork automation design software for the aluminum formwork. To apply the formwork automation design software, we built an aluminum formwork library based on the conversion of two-dimensional (2D) computer-aided design (CAD) data to three-dimensional building information modeling data for all the components of the aluminum formwork. The results of the automated formwork layout on the target structures using the formwork automation design software confirmed that the wall and deck members were laid out by the set algorithm according to the formwork size and direction. However, because of the limited functionality of the software, the level of completion of the formwork layout was found to be lower than that of the manual formwork layout based on 2D CAD data. The currently developed software is based on a simple algorithm, but has a drawback in that the automated layout is limited to only some of its members. Therefore, additional research should be conducted on the development of advanced software through the diversification of the algorithm, automation of preprocessing of the mesh, and analysis of the relationships of all the members comprising the formwork.
