In keeping with the growth in the development of healthy environments in organizational contexts, in recent years, there has also been increasing interest in the identification of personal psychological resources that contribute to improved worker mental health. From this proactive approach, this study examines the mediating role of flourishing in the relationship between psychological capital (PsyCap) and burnout in teachers, a professional group that is particularly prone to suffering from this syndrome. A total of 1379 teachers from pre-school, primary, secondary, and vocational education systems participated in the study. The mediating effect of flourishing was determined via mediation analysis using the PROCESS macro. The results showed that flourishing partially mediates the negative effect of PsyCap on the three symptoms of burnout (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and lack of professional accomplishment). These findings indicate that both PsyCap and flourishing may be effective personal resources in reducing teacher burnout. Therefore, in order to prevent burnout, it is advisable to design interventions that combine PsyCap and flourishing.

Psychological capital (PsyCap) is a state-like concept with roots in positive psychology. This study investigated the potential role of PsyCap, as a personal resource, in increasing the level of employees’ health (mental and physical) and performance. Based on the Job Demand-Resources theory, the mediating effect of burnout was examined using self-report data. The models were tested on 304 Romanian employees (51% women) from Information Technology & Communications (IT&C) companies, using structural equation modeling. The analysis found that burnout partially mediates the relationship between PsyCap and health (mental and physical) as well as the relationship between PsyCap and performance (task and contextual). The results highlight the role of PsyCap, as a personal resource, in health, and performance. These results are useful for implementing an evidence-based intervention to improve the level of PsyCap in IT&C employees. An improvement in PsyCap would reduce burnout and enhance well-being and performance. This study highlights the mediating role of burnout in the relationship between psychological capital and two distinct outcomes: health and performance. Thus, this research helps identify further mediators of the relation between PsyCap and health and performance.

We investigated the mediating role of need for control in the relationship between narcissism and perspective taking. A sample of 178 college students completed measures of narcissism, empathy (including empathic concern and perspective taking), need for control, and self-esteem. Results show that narcissism had a direct negative effect on perspective taking. Need for control partially mediated the relationship between narcissism and perspective taking when controlling for self-esteem. That is, participants with higher scores for narcissistic personality tended to be less motivated to take others' perspectives. This tendency was strengthened because narcissists are more driven by power. The findings show that identification of narcissists' need for control and application of therapy or a program to improve their perspective-taking motivation and empathetic communication, will improve their psychological functioning and social behavior.

The walkability of a neighborhood is closely related to residents’ travel behavior and daily life and, ultimately, their health and wellbeing. Although existing studies in this area have reached some enlightening conclusions, few of them have considered residents’ travel attitudes and preferences, or the mediating role of commute mode. Do travel attitudes and preferences matter in the relationship between neighborhood walkability and residents being obese? How does commute mode work as a mediator? To answer these questions, based on the 2019 travel survey data in Guangzhou, this paper uses the Multilevel Linear Model (MLM) to examine the association between neighborhood walkability and residents’ body mass index (BMI). Furthermore, the Mediation Model is used to identify the mediating role of commute mode in the relationship between walkability and BMI. The results show that (1) travel attitudes and preferences do affect the individual’s BMI through the mediator of commute mode. (2) After controlling the individual socio-demographics and travel attitudes and preferences, neighborhood walkability has a significant negative effect on BMI. Meanwhile, walkability has a significant positive effect on the use of non-private motorized commute modes. Non-private motorized commute modes have a significant negative effect on BMI. (3) The mediating effect of commute mode in the relationship of neighborhood walkability with the individual’s BMI is significant. The proportion of mediation is 32.90%. Insights into the relationship between neighborhood walkability, commute mode, and individual BMI highlight the importance of walkable neighborhoods that encourage people to use healthy commute modes.

The objective of this research was not only to investigate the relationship between working environment (WE) and job burnout (JB), WE and organizational commitment (OC), WE and psychological capital PsychCap, OC and JB, PsychCap and JB but also to investigate the mediating effect of OC and PsychCap between the relationship of working environment and JB of doctors working in hospitals of KP, Pakistan. Data were collected from three hundred and thirty doctors. The results revealed a significant negative relationship between WE and JB, OC and JB, PsychCap and JB while positive relationship was found between WE and OC, WE and PsychCap. The results also explored that OC partially mediated the relationship between WE and JB. PsychCap also partially mediated the relationship between WE and JB. When both OC and PsychCap were included as mediators, the relationship between WE and JB became insignificant (full mediation).

Purpose of the work was to investigate the mediating role of psychological capital in the relationship between subjective perceptions of stress and person’s life satisfaction.Methods. Psycho-diagnostic methods “Stress Perception Scale-10”, “Psychological Capital”, “Life Satisfaction Scale” were used. Statistical analysis included calculation of descriptive statistics, correlations between variables (r-Pearson), finding differences between samples (ANOVA) and mediator analysis.Results. On the basis of a cross-sectional research of a sample of 460 people, the hypothesis that life satisfaction negatively correlates with the level of subjective perception of stress and positively with psychological capital was confirmed. Subjective perception of stress, in turn, negatively correlates with psychological capital. The hypothesis of the mediating role of psychological capital was partially confirmed, as the relationship between the perception of personal stress and life satisfaction remained statistically significant, although it decreased after psychological capital was added as a mediator. This result indicates that the cognitive assessment of stressors remains an important variable for predicting life satisfaction, even when regulating dispositional characteristics. Psychological capital as an integral personal resource is by a third statistically significant in determining the relationship between person’s perception of stress and life satisfaction. Affecting directly, subjective perception of stress explains 18.9% of the life satisfaction variance; at the same time the model mediated by psychological capital adds another 8.6%.Conclusion. Psychological capital is one of the integral personal resources, which provides a mechanism of response, processing and recovery from stressors, supporting the subjective well-being. It explains a third of the variance of the relationship between subjective perception of stress and life satisfaction. Psychological capital provides a partial mediating effect when people encounter stressors to maintain their well-being.Key words: life satisfaction, subjective well-being, psychological capital, perception of stress, mediator analysis. Метою роботи було вивчення опосередкованої ролі психологічного капіталу у взаємозв’язку між суб’єктивним сприйняттям стресу та задоволеністю життям особистістю.Методи. Використовувались психодіагностичні методики «Шкала сприйняття стресу-10», «Психологічний капітал», «Шкала задоволеності життям». Статистичний аналіз містив розрахунок описових статистик, кореляцій між змінними (r-Пірсона), знаходження відмінностей між вибірками (ANOVA) та медіаторний аналіз.Результати. На основі кроссекційного дослідження вибірки з 460 осіб підтверджено гіпотези, що задоволеність життям негативно корелює з рівнем суб’єктивного сприйняття стресу та позитивно – з психологічним капіталом. Суб’єктивне сприйняття стресу негативно взаємозв’язане з психологічним капіталом. Частково підтвердилась гіпотеза про опосередковану роль психологічного капіталу, оскільки взаємозв’язок між сприйняттям стресу особистістю та задоволеністю життям залишився статистично значущим, хоча і зменшився після того, як був доданий психологічний капітал як медіатор. Цей результат указує на те, що когнітивна оцінка стрес-факторів залишається важливою змінною для прогнозу задоволеності життям, навіть за умов контролю диспозиційної характеристики. Психоло-гічний капітал як інтегральний особистісний ресурс на третину статистично значуще визначає взаємозв’язок між сприйняттям стресу особистістю та задоволеністю життям. Суб’єктивне сприйняття стресу безпосереднім впливом пояснює 18,9% дисперсії задоволеності життям, а модель з опосередкуванням психологічним капіталом додає ще 8,6%.Висновки. Одним з інтегральних особистісних ресурсів, що забезпечує механізм реагування, переробки та відновлення після стресових факторів, підтримуючи суб’єктивне благополуччя, є психологічний капітал. Він пояснює третину дисперсії взаємозв’язку між суб’єктивним сприйняттям стресу та задоволеністю життям. Психологічний капітал забезпечує частковий медіаторний ефект, коли люди зіштовхуються зі стресовими факторами для підтримки свого благополуччя.Ключові слова: задоволеність життям, суб’єктивне благополуччя, психологічний капітал, сприйняття стресу, медіаторний аналіз.

The intermediary effect interval of the preschool teachers' competence characteristics → positive psychological capital → the subjective well-being of the preschool teachers is (0.23—0.55), does not contain 0, and the effect amount is 0.35. The competency characteristics of preschool teachers → The direct effect interval of subjective well-being of preschool teachers is (0.05—0.36), excluding 0, and the effect quantity is 0.20, indicating that positive psychological capital as a mediator variable has the characteristics of preschool teachers and the subjective well-being of preschool teachers. Partial mediating effect, the ratio of mediating effect to total effect is 64.01%.

Little is known about the relationship between social comparison orientation and mental health, especially in the psychological capital context. We proposed a theoretical model to examine the impact of ability- and opinion-based social comparison orientation on mental health using data from 304 undergraduates. We also examined the mediating effect of the four psychological capital components of hope, self-efficacy, resilience, and optimism in the relationship between social comparison orientation and mental health. Results show that an ability (vs. opinion) social comparison orientation was negatively (vs. positively) related to the psychological capital components. Further, the resilience and optimism components of psychological capital fully mediated the social comparison orientation–mental health relationship. Our findings indicate that psychological capital should be considered in the promotion of mental health, and that the two social comparison orientation types have opposite effects on psychological capital.

The present study aims to explore the relationship between social loneliness and online interaction through WhatsApp addiction among a sample of Indian and Fijian respondents. Based on the responses of 202 Indian and 73 Fijian respondents, the present research study validated the mediating role of WhatsApp addiction, revealing that social loneliness increased the possibility of preferring to interact online through increased WhatsApp addiction. The empirical results showed that the underlying mechanism of social loneliness might indirectly influence consumers’ preference for online social interaction (POSI). The study further assessed the moderating role of culture in the association between social loneliness and POSI. Findings of the moderated mediation analysis demonstrated that, the association between loneliness and preference to socialize online differed, based on the identified cultural differences between Indian and Fijian groups.

PurposeFollowing the rapid expansion of data volume, velocity and variety, techniques and technologies, big data analytics have achieved substantial development and a surge of companies make investments in big data. Academics and practitioners have been considering the mechanism through which big data analytics capabilities can transform into their improved organizational performance. This paper aims to examine how big data analytics capabilities influence organizational performance through the mediating role of dual innovations.Design/methodology/approachDrawing on the resource-based view and recent literature on big data analytics, this paper aims to examine the direct effects of big data analytics capabilities (BDAC) on organizational performance, as well as the mediating role of dual innovations on the relationship between (BDAC) and organizational performance. The study extends existing research by making a distinction of BDACs' effect on their outcomes and proposing that BDACs help organizations to generate insights that can help strengthen their dual innovations, which in turn have a positive impact on organizational performance. To test our proposed research model, this study conducts empirical analysis based on questionnaire-base survey data collected from 309 respondents working in Chinese manufacturing firms.FindingsThe results support the proposed hypotheses regarding the direct and indirect effect that BDACs have on organizational performance. Specifically, this paper finds that dual innovations positively mediate BDACs' effect on organizational performance.Originality/valueThe conclusions on the relationship between big data analytics capabilities and organizational performance in previous research are controversial due to lack of theoretical foundation and empirical testing. This study resolves the issue by provides empirical analysis, which makes the research conclusions more scientific and credible. In addition, previous literature mainly focused on BDACs' direct impact on organizational performance without making a distinction of BDAC's three dimensions. This study contributes to the literature by thoroughly introducing the notions of BDAC's three core constituents and fully analyzing their relationships with organizational performance. What's more, empirical research on the mechanism of big data analytics' influence on organizational performance is still at a rudimentary stage. The authors address this critical gap by exploring the mediation of dual innovations in the relationship through survey-based research. The research conclusions of this paper provide new perspective for understanding the impact of big data analytics capabilities on organizational performance, and enrich the theoretical research connotation of big data analysis capabilities and dual innovation behavior.
