Background: Since presenteeism is related to numerous negative health and work-related effects, measures are required to reduce it. There are initial indications that how an organization deals with health has a decisive influence on employees’ presenteeism behavior.Aims: The concept of health-promoting collaboration was developed on the basis of these indications. As an extension of healthy leadership it includes not only the leader but also co-workers. In modern forms of collaboration, leaders cannot be assigned sole responsibility for employees’ health, since the leader is often hardly visible (digital leadership) or there is no longer a clear leader (shared leadership). The study examines the concept of health-promoting collaboration in relation to presenteeism. Relationships between health-promoting collaboration, well-being and work ability are also in focus, regarding presenteeism as a mediator.Methods: The data comprise the findings of a quantitative survey of 308 employees at a German university of applied sciences. Correlation and mediator analyses were conducted.Results: The results show a significant negative relationship between health-promoting collaboration and presenteeism. Significant positive relationships were found between health-promoting collaboration and both well-being and work ability. Presenteeism was identified as a mediator of these relationships.Conclusion: The relevance of health-promoting collaboration in reducing presenteeism was demonstrated and various starting points for practice were proposed. Future studies should investigate further this newly developed concept in relation to presenteeism.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to bring colossal impact on families, particularly on marital adjustments. This paper reports findings of a study that examined perceptions of home demands, social support, and marital adjustment among women during COVID-19. A sample of 252 women was taken. Participants were administered a Demographic information sheet, Home Demands Questionnaire, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and Enrich Marital Satisfaction Scale. The data was analysed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and Multiple Linear Regression analysis. Results revealed a significant negative relationship between perceptions of home demands and social support, and marital adjustment, and also a significant positive relation between social support and marital adjustment among women. Findings showed that women are likely to face additional problems because of limited sources of social support due to COVID-19 which is an imperative aspect for marital adjustment. Findings have implications for marriage counsellors, therapists, and clinical practitioners.

<span lang="EN-GB">Scholarship recipient students have more demands and responsibilities than non-scholarship students. The demands of lectures can put pressure on students that can trigger psychological distress. Each individual is different in assessing the stress experienced depending on the personality. The research instrument used the NEO Five-Factor Inventory-3 scale and the Hopkins Symptom Checklist-25 scale (HSCL-25). The results of the comparison test show that there is no difference between recipients and non-scholarship recipients. The results of the correlation test show that there is a significant positive relationship between neuroticism and psychological distress, while extraversion and conscientiousness have a significant negative relationship with psychological distress. However, there is no significant relationship between openness to experience and agreeableness to psychological distress.</span>

Numerous studies in different countries find evidence for high rates of teacher turnover, leading to shortages and potential quality issues. Job satisfaction is found to be an important antecedent of turnover. In this study, we investigate the impact of various aspects of professional development for teachers (as well as interactions of these aspects) on job satisfaction. The main goal is to disentangle the interactions between need for and participation in professional development activities, allowing more detailed and precise analyses that may lead to a better substantiated understanding of the mechanisms at work. We use data from the 2018 wave of the OECD’s Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS). The hierarchical data structure of teachers nested in schools, nested in regions requires the use of appropriate estimation techniques: multilevel or hierarchical linear modelling (HLM). We find a significant positive relationship between job satisfaction and need for professional development for teaching diversity and special needs, which is (negatively) moderated by the number of professional development activities a teacher had participated in. Another indicator, measuring the need for professional development in subject matter and pedagogy, shows a significant negative relationship with job satisfaction and is (positively) moderated by the amount of professional development.

Working capital management is an essential part of a sound business. The main objective of this research is to investigate the effect of working capital management on profitability. The regression analysis was carried out on a panel sample of 30 construction firms listed on Bursa Malaysia over a five-year period from 2015 to 2019. The findings suggest that there is a significant positive relationship between Days Inventory Outstanding (DIO) and Gross Operating Profit (GOP) as well as a significant negative relationship between Days Payables Outstanding (DPO) and GOP. Thus, firms can maximise their profitability by maintaining higher inventory level and paying off creditors in a shorter time frame.

This study is dedicated to discovering the impact of COVID-19 on Malaysia’s plantation industry firms.  This paper uses quarterly data from annual report of 39 listed firms from Malaysia from 2018 to 2020. The variables to measure financial distress are debt ratio and debt-to-equity ratio while the measurement for firm performance is return on assets. The findings shows that there is a significant negative relationship between debt-to-equity ratio on firm performance. This indicates that the increase in debt-to-equity ratio results in a significant decrease in return on total assets. On the other hand, positive correlation exists between debt ratio and firm performance. This means that an increase in debt ratio results in an increase in the return value of total assets.

AbstractStudies on the determinants of financial development have been silent on the role of religion. Growing evidence in the literature about how financial development positively affects economic growth and development highlights a greater interest in understanding the determinants of financial development. Despite the growing interest in this direction, less focus has been given to the role of religion in financial development. Using data from the World Values Survey, this study explores the relationship between finance and religion. In this study, finance is modelled through different measures of financial development and religion is represented by the intensity of religiosity. Results showed that on average there is a significant negative relationship. Subsequent analysis showed that as countries become financially developed, this negative relationship becomes insignificant. The quantile regression technique was employed to capture the nature of the relationship at different levels. The analysis showed that as countries become financially developed, the negative relationship becomes insignificant to financial development. These results account for some of the differences in the level of financial development between developed and developing countries where the latter tend to be more religious than the former.

Abstract Purpose – In responding to COVID-19, governments around the world have imposed various restrictions with different levels of success. One important aspect of pandemic control is the willingness of individuals to stay home when possible. The purpose of this paper is to study the impact of government restrictions on human mobility in the United StatesMethodology/approach – Structural equation modelling is used to explore the issue. First, we use path regression analysis and factor analysis to identify the main factors that influence mobility. Second, we use total effect decomposition to investigate the deeper relationship between government restrictions and human mobility.Finding – Two important findings are revealed First, the economic environment is the fundamental and direct factor affecting human mobility. There is a significant negative relationship between economic environment and human mobility, meaning that where economic conditions are bad mobility is greater. Second, government restrictions and the scale of the pandemic do not directly affect human mobility. Government restriction indirectly influences human mobility through economic environment as a mediating variable. Therefore, the economic environment has a significant mediating effect.Originality/value – Existing literature lacks research on the mediating effect between government restrictions and human mobility. This paper provides new empirical evidence for the research topic by studying the mediating effect between government restrictions and human mobility. This provides policymakers with a more detailed picture of the processes through which policies operate.

Background Compassion satisfaction and fear of compassion affect the mental health of professionals who work with people. In addition, each of these two variables can be important indicators of the quality of the services such professionals provide. Methods This study examines compassion as a source of satisfaction and fear among 293 professionals work with people, including 158 teachers, 57 police officers, 45 nurses and 44 imams. A personal information form, the Fear of Compassion Scale, and the Compassion Satisfaction Scale were used as data collection tools. Results Neither fear of compassion nor compassion satisfaction varied significantly according to the sampled professionals’ genders, educational levels, monthly incomes or area of residence. However, both these measures did exhibit statistically significant variation by the respondents’ professional roles, ages, numbers of children and marital statuses. A significant negative relationship between the participants’ fear of compassion and their compassion satisfaction was also identified. Conclusion Courses related to kindness and social interaction should be provided in schools, to help the adults of the future.

Negative emotional states, such as depression, anxiety, and stress, can arise and impact the individual's adaptive function. Self-compassion includes treating oneself with wisdom and understanding when faced with suffering, which helps improve self-regulation in dealing with emotional problems. This study aims to see the relationship between self-compassion and negative emotional states in Diponegoro University medical students, involving 118 participants of second-year students using the convenience sampling technique. Measurements in the study were carried out using the self-compassion scale (22 items, α = 0.925) and the DASS-21 Indonesian version (21 items, α = 0.892). Spearman's rho showed a significant negative relationship between self-compassion and negative emotional states (rxy = -0.630, p = 0.000). Self-compassion was also found to have a significant negative relationship with depression (rxy = -0.643, p = 0.000), anxiety (rxy = -0.440, p = 0.000), and stress (rxy = -0.516, p = 0.000). These results indicate that the higher self-compassion of the participants, the lower the negative emotional states, and vice versa. Self-compassion predicts negative emotional states in participants ranging from depression, stress, and anxiety sequentially. The further identified prevalence of negative emotional states in participants in this study. A program to enhance self-compassion is needed to reduce negative emotional states.
