This paper presents a theoretically and methodologically grounded GIS-based model for the measurement and mapping of an index of living conditions in urban residential areas across Sweden. Further, the model is compared and evaluated using the Swedish Police’s assessment of crime-exposed areas. The results indicate that the geographically measured vulnerable living conditions overlap to a large extent with the areas assessed to be crime-exposed by the Swedish Police. Over 61% of the police-defined crime-exposed areas are characterized by vulnerable living conditions. The results also show that this overlap is not perfect and that there are vulnerable areas that are not included in the police’s assessment of crime-exposed areas, but which are nonetheless characterized by vulnerable living conditions that could negatively affect the development of crime. It is also proposed that the model and the mapped index of living conditions can provide a more well-grounded scientific basis for the police’s assessment work. As a first step, the Swedish police have implemented the model and the mapped index in the work process employed in their annual identification of crime-exposed or at-risk areas. In addition to assisting the police, the model and the mapped index could also be used to support other societal actors working with vulnerable areas.

Veterans with spinal cord injury (SCI) are at high risk for developing debilitating pressure injuries, particularly to their seated areas (e.g. coccyx, sacral and gluteal) [1]. To prevent development of a pressure injury the Veteran with SCI is encouraged to invoke multiple prevention strategies [2]. One recommended prevention strategy is to conduct twice daily skin self-screenings. Skin self-screening is usually conducted in the bed, prior to arising in the morning and prior to sleep in the evening. The current method to conduct skin self-screening utilizes a mirror at the end of a long handle. The Veteran with SCI examines at-risk areas for changes in their skin integrity such as discoloration, swelling, or changes in skin texture. This method can take up to 20 minutes to complete. In the event there is a change to skin integrity, the pressure injury prevention protocol advises the Veteran with SCI to off-load that particular area for at least 24 hours [3]. Further, he/she is advised to consult with their skin specialist if the area does not resolve to normal color or texture within that next 24 hour period. The consequences of ignoring an early stage pressure injury can be serious e.g. weeks to months of hospitalization attempting to heal the injury, tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars in healthcare costs, possible surgery to close the wound and possibly death [4]. Informal interviews with Veterans with SCI clarified and validated that conducting skin screening with the mirror could be very challenging due to barriers such as: not having a baseline image to compare to; the mirror image not being viewable to the user due to lack of user flexibility or body habitus; the mirror does not easily allow a complete view of all the at-risk areas; the user not being able to discern what he/she is actually viewing possibly due to mirror image distortion and limited visual acuity. The need for a better skin self-screening device was evidenced by the advanced pressure injuries Veterans presented to their healthcare providers. Finding a pressure injury in the early stages of development and intervening immediately, such as repositioning, can improve the trajectory of the injury [5]. Therefore the project goal was to offer a better tool for and improve the efficacy of skin self-screening for the Veterans with SCI. To overcome the identified barriers, our team of VA clinicians and engineers of the Minneapolis Adaptive Design & Engineering (MADE) program invented such a device at the Minneapolis VA. This paper presents the patient centered iterative process that was used to develop a skin self-screening device and the future directions for this technology.

Abstrak: Sub DAS Amprong secara administrasi masuk pada wilayah Kabupaten Malang dan Kota Malang. Meliputi lima Kecamatan yakni: Kedungkandang, Poncokusumo, Tumpang, Pakis dan Jabung. Risiko bencana longsor tergolong tinggi pada kawasan ini. Maka dari itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan pengurangan risiko bencana longsor mengunakan pendeketaan GIS (Geographic Information System). Menggunakan GIS distribusi tingkat risiko akan dapat diketahui dengan baik, sehingga mampu memberikan solusi yang lebih akurat. Penelitian ini meliputi empat tahapan: 1) pemetaan bahaya longsor, 2) pemetaan kerentanan bencana, 3) pemetaan kapasitas bencana, 4) pemetaan risiko bencana. Hasilnya diketahui bahwa kecamatan Jabung dan Poncokusumo merupakan wialayah dengan tingkat risiko longsor paling tinggi. Upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk mengurangi tingkat risiko dapat dilakukan melalui mitigasi bencana secara struktural dan nonstruktural. Wilayah dengan risiko tinggi bukan merupakan kawasan pemukiman, namun memiliki aktivitas utama berupa pertanian. Oleh karena itu perlu adanya manajemen risiko bencana longsor dalam usaha longsor seperti: dengan cara: 1) pengaturan sistem irigasi dengan baik, 2) penerapan sistem terasering, dan 3) pemasangan bronjong pada kaki lereng. Abstract: Amprong watershed is administratively included in Malang Regency and Malang City. Includes five districts namely: Kedungkandang, Poncokusumo, Tumpang, Pakis and Jabung. The risk of landslides is classified high in this region. Therefore, this research aims to reduce the risk of landslides using GIS (Geographic Information System). Using GIS the distribution of risk levels will be well known, so as to provide a more accurate solution. This research includes four stages: 1) mapping of landslide hazards, 2) mapping of disaster vulnerability, 3) mapping of disaster capacity, 4) mapping of disaster risk. The results are known that the Jabung and Poncokusumo sub-districts are areas with the highest risk of landslides. Efforts that can be made to reduce the level of risk can be done through structural and nonstructural disaster mitigation. High risk areas are not residential areas, but have major activities in the form of agriculture. Therefore, it is necessary to have landslide risk management, such as: by: 1) regulating the irrigation system properly, 2) applying the terracing system, and 3) installing gabions at the foot of the slope.

ABSTRACT Objective: To develop a journal club on management topics in Nursing. Method: Action research, adopting content analysis as methodological reference and the journal club strategy. 12 nursing managers of a public hospital in the state of São Paulo participated from August to November 2016. Results: data showed the participation of nurses in the journal club in five meetings planned collectively with the following topics: "aspects regarding organization", with the subtopics "planning", "work process", "structure" and "people management"; and the topic "aspects regarding the team", with the subtopics "autonomy", "behavior/attitude", "awareness" and "social problems". Conclusion: The study showed the comprehensiveness of topics the journal club can address regarding management, and how scientific basis is important in the daily life of nursing managers to improve quality of care and the ability to manage.

Poverty and social exclusion are often associated with unemployment, but being employed is not always sufficient to provide decent living conditions for workers and their families. The ‘low-wage’ workers similarly as unemployed are often associated with an image of men and women struggling to support their families and living at risk of poverty and social exclusion. Dealing with the social stratification engendered from the employment status of workers in the post-transition countries represents a challenging task for the academics and policymakers. The aim of the paper is to assess the determinants of poverty in North Macedonia from the point of view of employment status, particularly the differences between low-paid and unemployed workers. We assess the factors affecting the probability of at-risk-of poverty status by estimating a logit model on cross-section data separately for employed and unemployed persons in 2015. The analysis draws from an examination of micro data from the Survey on Income and Living Conditions (SILC) whose main scope is to enable the compilation of statistics on income distribution, as well as indicators of monetary poverty. Besides other personal and household characteristics, being low-paid appears as the most important factor for at-risk-of poverty status among employed persons, while the low work intensity is the most responsible factor for at-risk-of poverty status among unemployed persons. In addition, our analysis reveals that the social transfers do not satisfactorily cover these categories, which assumes that we need a much broader arsenal of respective policy measures aiming to reduce poverty among the vulnerable labour market segments. The proposed policy recommendations cover the following areas: education and training, active labour market policies, unionisation and collective bargaining, wage subsidies and taxation and statutory minimum wage.

Urban flooding is getting attention due to its adverse impact on urban lives in mega cities of the developing world particularly Pakistan. This study aims at finding a suitable methodology for mapping urban flooded areas to estimate urban flooding vulnerability risks in the cities of developing countries particularly Lahore, Pakistan. To detect the urban flooded vulnerability and risk areas due to natural disaster, GIS-based integrated Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is applied for the case of Lahore, which is the second most populous city and capital of the Punjab, Pakistan. For the present research, the flood risk mapping is prepared by considering these significant physical factors like elevation, slope, and distribution of rainfall, land use, density of the drainage network, and soil type. Results show that the land use factor is the most significant to detect vulnerable areas near roads and commercial areas. For instance, this method of detection is 88%, 80% and 70% accurate for roads, commercial and residential areas. The methodology implemented in the present research can provide a practical tool and techniques to relevant policy and decision-makers authorities to prioritize and actions to mitigate flood risk and vulnerabilities and identify certain vulnerable urban areas, while formulating a methodology for future urban flood risk and vulnerability mitigation through an objectively simple and organizationally secure approach.
