Two coordination polymers, [Co(µ4-L)(H2O)2]n (1) and [Ni(µ-L)(H2O)4]n (2), were solvothermally assembled from the corresponding metal(II) chlorides and biphenyl-4,4-dioxydiacetic acid (H2L) as a flexible dicarboxylate linker. The cobalt(II) compound 1 featured a layer-pillared 3D metal-organic network with a cds topology, while the nickel(II) derivative 2 represented a linear chain 1D coordination polymer with a 2C1 topology. The µ4− and µ-L2− linkers exhibited different denticity and coordination modes in the synthesized compounds, thus contributing to their structural diversity. The dimensionality of 1 and 2 had an influence on their thermal stability and decomposition processes, which were investigated in detail by TG-DSC and TG-FTIR methods. Thermal decomposition products of coordination polymers were also analyzed by PXRD, confirming the formation of Co3O4/CoO and NiO as final materials. The obtained compounds broaden a family of coordination polymers assembled from flexible dicarboxylate linkers.

Complex mineral ammonium nitrate-based fertilizers are complex multicomponent salt systems possessing low thermal stability and prone to self-sustaining decomposition. This leads to the need to increase the requirements for fire and explosion safety in their manufacture, storage and transportation, caused by the fact that ammonium nitrate is a solid oxidant able to support a combustion, and its heating in confined space can lead to detonation. Components that make up such fertilizers can both reduce (phosphates and ammonium sulfate) and accelerate (chlorine compounds) decomposition of ammonium nitrate. Thus, the thermal stability of fertilizers based on ammonium nitrate largely depends on the ratio of the components that make up its composition or formed as a result of the chemical reaction. The simplest way to reduce the content of ammonium nitrate and increase the thermal stability of fertilizer without changing the content of essential nutrients is to increase the degree of phosphoric acid ammoniation. In this paper, the phase composition change of grade 22:11:11 nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium fertilizer obtained with different ammoniation degree in the process of thermal decomposition was studied by X-ray phase analysis. To obtain this fertilizer, wet-process phosphoric acid obtained sulfuric acid attack of the Khibin apatite concentrate by a hemihydrate method is used. It is shown that an increase in the ammoniation degree has a significant effect on the exothermic decomposition of ammonium nitrate and the amount of material that is released into the gas phase. Two series of Cd(ii) CPs based on two positional isomeric thiophenedicarboxylic acids and N-donor ligands have been synthesized. Moreover, the thermal stability and photoluminescence properties of these complexes are investigated.

Four distinct ZnII coordination polymers [Zn(L5)Cl2]n (1), [Zn(L5)I2]n (2), {[Zn(L5)(N3)2](H2O)2}n (3), and {[Zn(L5)2(H2O)](ClO4)2(CH3OH)}n (4) were prepared by assembling a multidentate tripyridyltriazole building block 3-(2-pyridyl)-4-(4-pyridyl)-5-(3-pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazole (L5) with different ZnII salts. Compounds 1, 2 and 4 display distinguishing 1D chain-like coordination patterns whereas 3 reveals a 2D uninodal four-connected network, which can be well regulated by different counter-ions. Further, the building tecton L5 exhibits multiple conformations in these structures. The structural diversity reveals that the synergistic modulation of counter-ions and the adaptable conformations of the organic linker play a critical role in the structural construction. Solid-state properties including thermal stability and fluorescence were investigated as well.

Three new 3D metal–organic frameworks of lanthanum based on mixed anionic ligands, [(La2(pQ)2(BDC)4)·4DMF]n, [(La2(pQ)2(DHBDC)4)·4DMF]n, [(La2(CA)2(BDC)4)·4DMF]n (pQ—dianion of 2,5-dihydroxy-3,6-di-tert-butyl-para-quinone, CA—dianion of chloranilic acid, BDC-1,4-benzenedicarboxylate, DHBDC-2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzenedicarboxylate and DMF-N,N′-dimethylformamide), were synthesized using solvothermal methodology. Coordination polymers demonstrate the rare xah or 4,6T187 topology of a 3D framework. The homoleptic 2D-coordination polymer [(La2(pQ)3)·4DMF]n was obtained as a by-product in the course of synthetic procedure optimization. The thermal stability, spectral characteristics and porosity of coordination polymers were investigated.

Six entangled coordination polymers from a bisimidazole ligand and versatile carboxylate acids have been synthesized and structurally characterized. Their adsorption behaviors to organic dyes have also been evaluated.
