Various methods are available for the calculation of timber–concrete composite floors. The gamma method, which is important in construction practice, as well as the differential equation method, are based on the simplified assumption of a continuous bond between wood and concrete. This makes it possible to analytically calculate the internally statically indeterminate partial section sizes and deformation sizes, analogous to the force size method. In this paper, two typical load situations of concentrated loads (central and off-centre) were analytically and numerically evaluated and compared using the above-mentioned methods (gamma and differential equation), with a discrete method for the case of a timber beam reinforced with a concrete slab using screws as fasteners. The calculation results show significant deviations, which speak for the application of discrete methods in certain load situations and thus limit the usability of the gamma method under certain conditions. For the problem of deflection determination, which is not dealt with in the literature for the discrete method, a numerical method is described in the present work, which was first developed and presented by the first author.

The paper deals with numerical methods for eigenvalue problem for the second order ordinary differential operator with variable coefficient subject to nonlocal integral condition. FD-method (functional-discrete method) is derived and analyzed for calculating of eigenvalues, particulary complex eigenvalues. The convergence of FD-method is proved. Finally numerical procedures are suggested and computational results are schown.

In order to conveniently analyze the dynamic performance of tracked vehicles, mathematic models are established based on the actual structure of vehicles and terrain mechanics when they are moving on the soft random terrain. A discrete method is adopted to solve the coupled equations to calculate the acceleration of the vehicle’s mass center and tractive force of driving sprocket. Computation results output by the model presented in this paper are compared with results given by the model, which has the same parameters, built in the multi-body dynamic software. It shows that the steady state calculation results are basically consistent, while the model presented in this paper is more convenient to be used in the optimization of structure parameters of tracked vehicles.

In order to get the authorization for issuing energy performance certificates in Slovenia, the expert candidate has to attend the prescribed course and pass the exam. The simplified method for heat losses calculation that is taught at this course neglects the thermal bridges, raising concerns whether the calculation results are reliable. In this paper we have compared three methods for calculation of thermal losses for a “typical” family house. The first is the above mentioned simplified calculation using a correctional factor; the second takes into account the thermal bridges, using linear thermal transmittances obtained by numerical calculation, and the third takes into account the thermal bridges, using default values for linear thermal transmittances. Noting that the second method returns the most exact values, we have found that the first method results are too large, yet still smaller than the third method results.

The problem of simulation the noise generated during the operation of the propeller is considered. Calculation methods are described and numerical simulation of the noise of a light aircraft propeller by the acoustic-vortex method is performed. The results of numerical modeling of the tonal components of the propeller noise when operating under static conditions are compared with experimental data and calculation results based on a semiempirical model.

Logistics resources will be concentrated in the same space by logistics park, to provide intensive logistics services and enhance the efficiency of logistics, thereby, a large number of logistics parks emerged in China for a period of time, and the park vacancy rate caused by high attention. Logistics Park construction should be matched with the demand. Calculation of logistics park carrying capacity is one of those problems should be solved. This paper uses the analogy method, the standard reference method and the space-time consumption method to calculate the comprehensive carrying capacity of “one port, six parks”, which is planned in Wuhan. The results show that although the space-time consumption method is more complicated than the other two, but its calculation results can better reflect the carrying capacity of Logistics Park.

Based on the experiment results of five plain steel plate-light weight concrete hollow deck specimens, the design methods of the composite decks which mainly including the calculation method of the bearing capacity and calculation method of the flexural rigidity were introduced. In the paper, the bearing capacity and flexural rigidity of the composite at two orthogonal directions, which including the direction parallel to the pipes and the direction perpendicular to the pipes, were both introduced. The calculation results of the bearing capacity and middle-span deflection were in good agreement with those of the experimental results, and in the return calculation methods were verified. Therefore, the design methods and calculation methods were useful to the design of this new type composite deck.

This paper presents a novel method for surface reconstruction from triple dexel data for virtual sculpting. A triple dexel based virtual sculpting system is developed to provide the capability of interactive solid modeling with haptic interface. A solid model is converted to triple dexel data, which depicts the intersections of the solid with rays cast in three orthogonal directions, and modified during the virtual sculpting process. The boundary of the tool swept volume is computed based on the Sweep Differential Equation method. Contour generation and combination algorithms convert the triple dexel data to three sets of orthogonal slices of contours. A tiling algorithm then generates the solid’s boundary surface in triangular facets from these contours. Examples are given to demonstrate the ability of the developed method and software to realistically simulate the physical sculpting process and to allow viewing the sculpted models in any directions.
