Sexual function among older men is often thought to decrease as part of normal ageing biology despite the fact that sexuality remains an important issue in the elderly. Sexual dysfunction in the aged male is likely multifactorial in nature, with the development and/or progression of medical comorbidities often resulting in decline in male sexual function and poor treatment response. At present, sexual dysfunction in the ageing male is poorly investigated and understood, and current treatment strategies aim at improving sexual desire and erectile function with limited data on ejaculatory and orgasmic dysfunctions. In addition, men are often reticent to seek help for health concerns including sexual dysfunction. The following article provides a narrative review of strategies to address various aspects of sexual dysfunction in the ageing male. Clinicians need to be educated to be sensitive when discussing sexuality issues among older men and to present practical solutions that take into account individual and cultural differences.

Abstract Background : Pneumonia remains the leading cause of death in children under five worldwide, accounting for about 1.6 million deaths a year. Streptococcus pneumonia , has proved to be the most competent bacterial pathogen causing pneumonia infections among the infants and the elderly, leading to great morbidity and mortality. Currently there are over 94 different serotypes of Streptococcus pneumonia , and quite a number have emerged as drug-resistant strains which introduce a twist to the current treatment strategies. Detailed information of current antibiotic susceptibilities, resistance and serotype distribution will be important in designing new strategies for treatment and management of pneumococcal infections. Methods: A total of 309 S. pneumoniae isolates were collected from patients attending the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital between 2017 and 2018. Nasopharyngeal samples collected and serotyped using PCR. The samples were cultured and their sensitivity to drugs tested using various concentrations of; Oxacilin, Erythromycin, Tetracycline, Ofloxacin, Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole and Chloramphenicol. Results: Out of the 309 samples collected, 235 were positive for S. pneumonia, although 10 of the samples had incomplete data. A total of 41 S. pneumonia serotypes isolated from the 309 samples with the most prevalent serotypes being; Non-typable (11%), 15B (7.6%), 19F (7.0%), 19A (6.7%), 23B (5.8%), 23F (5.3%), 6A (4.4%). All the serotypes were highly resistant to Oxacilin, and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, while showing high sensitivity to Erythromycin, Ofloxacin and chloramphenicol. The rate of sensitivity to Tetracycline was 75% with the other 25% showing intermediate sensitivity. Conclusions: The data collected showed a high rate of S. pneumonia (76%) consisting of various serotypes for various ages. The various serotypes isolated showed a marked resistance routinely used antibiotics for patient samples of various ages. The isolated serotypes also consisted of serotypes 19A, 6A, and 5B that are lacking in the pneumococcal vaccine (PCV 10). This data will provide relevant information for a better approach to both clinical treatment, management and prevention of infections with S. pneumonia. Sexual dysfunction is a common and frustrating problem in men that is often under reported and under treated. Sexual dysfunction issues identified by men may include hypoactive sexual desire disorder/lack of libido, premature ejaculation, delayed ejaculation, erectile dysfunction and/or Peyronie’s disease. This chapter covers information on how normal sexual function occurs and some of the etiologic factors leading to sexual dysfunction. Understanding each individual patient and their goals for sexual health can lead to identifying and addressing sexual issues effectively. Information is provided about some of the traditional medical treatment options typically used to treat men with common sexual problems. In addition, some lifestyle modification and psychological approaches to treating sexual dysfunction are discussed.

The name aphrodisiac is taken from Aphrodite who is penned as the Greek goddess of love, beauty and sex in an ancient folk tale. Dating from a remote period humans strive hard to improve their sexual powers but modern lifestyle and other environmental factors have resulted in many sexual dysfunctions . Current treatment strategies which had lead to unsuccessful results and high cost made man to search for alternative medicine or to include nutraceuticals in their food diet which improves aphrodisiac properties . There are hundreds of medicinal plants that can improve aphrodisiac activity and also there are herbs that have a nutraceutical value other than medicinal properties which improve aphrodisiac activity. There are many numbers of nutritional factors as well as phytochemical factors present in fruits and vegetables other than calories and fats which are helpful in providing nutritional health and to cure diseases. This review divulges about some nutraceutical food plants which are helpful for relieving sexual dysfunction or to improve sexual function.

Abstract: Vasectomy in the community are still poorly understood, such as vasectomy can affect sexual function (sexual dysfunction). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of vasectomy on male sexual function and the mechanisms of sexual function in men due to vasectomy. This study is a cross sectional analytic survey with a target population of men who have vasectomy totaling 67 people selected by proportional sampling of Manado City BKKBN January to August 2012. Instruments in this study using the questionnaire International Index Erectile Function (IIEF), the analysis of the data in this study using univariate analysis and Mann Whitney Sub Menu 2 Independent simple (SPSS 20 for Windows). The results, the majority of respondents aged > 35 years were 63 people (94.03%), elementary education as many as 48 people (62.34%), earning Rp. 500,000 - Rp. 1.000.000 by 47 people (70.1%), having more than one child as many as 64 people (95.5%), vasectomy contraceptive users with better sexual function by 56 people (83.60%), significant results statistics between vasectomy contraceptive users who have comorbidities, consuming drugs and having stress with sexual function. Contraception has no effect on male sexual function and sexual dysfunction occurs due to men having comorbidities, smoking and excessive alkohol consuming in the long term, drug users, and have excessive stress. Keywords: Vasectomy, Sexual Function, Male.

Iron deficiency with or without anemia in pregnant women is quite common today. In fact, anemia affects nearly 30% of women of reproductive age, and its prevalence among pregnant women is estimated to be 38% worldwide. Although iron deficiency (IR) is not the only cause of anemia, it is the most prevalent one. Anemia-reduction strategies among pregnant women are often ineffective, and severe anemia can greatly increase the risk of maternal mortality, as reported by WHO. Now therefore, the current guidelines for screening and treatment of ID-anemia (IDA) in pregnant women and new-borns require change. Severe anemia can greatly increase the risk of maternal death and adversely affect a developing fetus and new-born. In this review, we analyse the available data on the epidemiology and the effects of iron deficiency on mothers and infants, current treatment strategies and screening recommendations, as well as examine the treatment of IDA in pregnant women and newborns and the problem of poor compliance in patients with latent iron deficiency. A continuous long-term course of administration of oral iron supplements is one of the components of success in the treatment of IDA, and particularly latent forms of iron deficiency in pregnant women. It is often the case that poor patients’ compliance with therapy leads to poor treatment outcomes and misleading conclusions about the ineffectiveness of oral iron dosage forms in the battle against IDA. The data we have analysed suggest the possibility of increasing compliance with IDA treatment in pregnant women.
