Three M-MOF-74 (M = Co, Mg, Ni) metal-organic framework (MOF) thin film membranes have been synthesized through a sensor functionalization method for the direct electrical detection of NO2. The two-step surface functionalization procedure on the glass/Pt interdigitated electrodes resulted in a terminal carboxylate group, with both steps confirmed through infrared spectroscopic analysis. This surface functionalization allowed the MOF materials to grow largely in a uniform manner over the surface of the electrode forming a thin film membrane over the Pt sensing electrodes. The growth of each membrane was confirmed through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction analysis. The Ni and Mg MOFs grew as a continuous but non-defect free membrane with overlapping polycrystallites across the glass surface, whereas the Co-MOF-74 grew discontinuously. To demonstrate the use of these MOF membranes as an NO2 gas sensor, Ni-MOF-74 was chosen as it was consistently fabricated as the best thin and homogenous membrane, as confirmed by SEM. The membrane was exposed to 5 ppm NO2 and the impedance magnitude was observed to decrease 123× in 4 h, with a larger change in impedance and a faster response than the bulk material. Importantly, the use of these membranes as a sensor for NO2 does not require them to be defect-free, but solely continuous and overlapping growth.

A new three-dimensional metal-organic framework {[Zn(mpda)0.5(bix)]·(H2O)1.5}n (1) (H4mpda = 1,2,3,4-benzenetetracarboxylic acid, m-bix = 1,3-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)-benzene) has been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and IR spectra. In 1, homochiral helical chains are formed in the Zn-mpda layer through spontaneous resolution by mpda4−. Such layers are further connected through the second m-bix ligand to form a 3D chiral metal-organic framework. The individual (4,4)-connected net in 1 can be specified by the Schläfli symbol (66)2(64.82). Bulk material of 1 has good second-harmonic generation (SHG) activity, approximately 0.4 times that of urea. In addition, a thermogravimetric analysis was carried out, and the photoluminescent behavior of the complex was also investigated

The compound [Cd(4,4'-bpy)2(H2O)2](ClO4)2·(L)2 was obtained by the reaction of Cd(ClO4)2, bis(1-pyrazinylethylidene)hydrazine (L) and 4,4'-bipyridine in aqueous MeOH. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction has revealed its two-dimensional metal-organic framework. The 2-D layers superpose on each other, giving a channel structure. The square planar grids consist of two pairs of shared edges with Cd(II) ion and a 4,4'-bipyridine molecule each vertex and side, respectively. The square cavity has a dimension of 11.817 × 11.781 Å. Two guest molecules of bis(1-pyrazinylethylidene)hydrazine are clathrated in every hydrophobic host cavity, being further stabilized by π-π stacking and hydrogen bonding. The results suggest that the hydrazine molecules present in the network serve as structure-directing templates in the formation of crystal structures.

Abstract In this study, we prepared Zn-MOFs as an ordinary, low-cost, and efficiency method taking advantage of zinc(ii) acetate monohydrate and 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid in microwave-assisted ball milling. The Zn-MOFs were measured via scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectrometry, X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetry. We explored its use as a photocatalyst for the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride and Congo red from aqueous solutions. The results demonstrate that the kinetic model was appropriate for the removal of organic pollutants. In general, it is feasible, inexpensive, and effective to use metal organic framework (MOF) to treat waste liquid. Therefore, our findings indicate that Zn-MOFs have broad application vista in wastewater purification.

AbstractA new Cu(II) metal-organic framework, [Cu(L)(OBA)·H2O]n (1) [H2OBA = 4,4′-oxybis(benzoic acid), L = 3,5-di(1H-benzimidazol-1-yl)pyridine] was hydrothermally synthesized and characterized through IR spectroscopy, elemental and thermal analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 is a four-connected uni-nodal 2D net with a (44·62) topology which shows an emission centered at λ ∼393 nm upon excitation at λ = 245 nm. Moreover, complex 1 possesses high photocatalytic activities for the decomposition of Rhodamine B (RhB) under UV light irradiation.

AbstractA new metal-organic framework, [Pb(hmpcaH)2]n (1), has been hydrothermally synthesized from Pb(OAc)2 · 3H2O and 2-hydroxy-6-methylpyridine-4-carboxylic acid (hmpcaH2; 2), and characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental and thermogravimetric analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In complex 1, each hmpcaH− ligand represents a three-connected node to combine with the hexacoordinated Pb(II) ions, generating a 3D binodal (3,6)-connected ant network. The crystal structure of 2 was determined. The solid-state fluorescence properties of 1 and 2 were investigated.
