This paper presents a design of a 3DOF XYZ bi-directional motion platform based on Z-shaped flexure hinges. In the presented platform, bridge-type mechanisms and Z-shaped flexure hinges are adopted to amplify its output displacement. Bi-direction motion along the X-axis and Y-axis follows the famous differential moving principle DMP, and the bi-directional motion along the Z-axis is realized by using the reverse arrangement of the Z-shaped flexure hinges along the X-axis and Y-axis. Statics analysis of the proposed platform is carried out by the energy method, compliance matrix method, and force balance principle. Meanwhile, the Lagrange method is used to analyze the dynamics of the platform. A series of simulations are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design. The simulation results show that the average displacements of the platform in the XYZ-axis are ±125.58 μm, ±126.37 μm and ±568.45 μm, respectively.

In this study, we take the effect of the anterior movement of the optic into account and propose a novel haptic based on lever-type and bridge-type flexible amplification mechanisms. Based on the consideration of the offset of the rotation center of the flexible hinge, we have deduced the formula for calculating the amplification ratio of the proposed four-stage amplifier. The geometric parameters and the material property parameters, in terms of the clinical measurement data of the human eye, are assumed to restrain the structural features and motion trajectories for the amplifier. As the ciliary muscle achieves the contraction limit, the output displacement and amplification ratio reach the highest and lowest values, separately, and gradually approach a stable range. The amplification ratio of formula calculation and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) are around 18.86 and 17.79, respectively, with the input displacement ranging from 0.115mm to 0.127mm. The error of the amplification ratio between theoretical method and FEA is less than 5%. The presented haptic acting as a four-stage displacement amplifier, enables an improved lens power of 3.80 diopters to obtain much more focus shift to achieve a better near visual performance for patients.

In the present paper, we take the input and output decoupling into account and propose a 2-DOF parallel nanopositioner, which is composed of lever amplification mechanisms, compound parallelogram mechanisms and novel crosshair flexures. In order to demonstrate the decoupling performance improvement of the crosshair flexures, the stiffness model of the crosshair flexures and the kinetostatics model of the nanopositioner are established based on Castigliano’s theorem and the compliance matrix method. Accordingly, the input and output decoupling compliance matrix models are derived to demonstrate the excellent decoupling property of the crosshair flexures based nanopositioner, which is further verified by finite-element analysis and experimental results. The open-loop experiments on the prototype stage demonstrate the maximum stroke of the nanopositioner is up to 65μm and the cross axis coupling errors are less than 1.6%.

Abstract. This paper presents an improved modeling method for bridge-type mechanism by taking the input displacement loss into consideration, and establishes an amplification ratio model of bridge-type mechanism according to compliance matrix method and elastic beam theory. Moreover, the amplification ratio of the designed bridge-type nano-positioner is obtained by taking the guiding mechanism as the external load of bridge-type mechanism. Comparing with existing methods, the proposed model is more accurate, which is further verified by finite element analysis(FEA) and experimental test. The consistency of the results obtained from theoretical model, FEA and experimental testing indicates that the proposed model can accurately predict the amplification characteristics of nano-positioners, which helps the analysis and design of bridge-type nano-positioners in practical applications.

Pipe corrosion caused by the pressure tests using water before starting the normal operation occurs often in Chinese product oil pipelines because of remaining water. To explore the migration of the corrosion impurities in the product oil pipelines, this study started from the force balance principle and considered the entire particle cluster as the research object. This paper established a one-dimensional migration model, and proposed the Froude number equality criterion to calculate the particle cluster length in the equilibrium state. The proposed criterion was verified by experiments. A loop was built to conduct the tests and obtain the migration velocities of the particle cluster from the non-equilibrium state to the equilibrium state in the pipeline. The proposed model was verified using the experimental data. Verification results demonstrate that the model can describe the development process from the non-equilibrium state to the equilibrium state of particle clusters after sudden external disturbance and accurately predict some important parameters, including the velocity of the particle cluster in the equilibrium state and the critical velocity that leads to the transition from fixed bed flow to moving bed flow. The model provides the theoretical basis and calculation method to remove corrosion impurities from product oil pipelines.

A new 2-DOF microgripper, which can perform the processing of the objects assembly and biological cells injection, is designed and modeled in this paper. The clamping action of the microgripper with the x direction is completed, however, when anything is clamped by the end effector, which can be completely driven by an actuator generated in y direction, at lastclamping and pushing motion are realized. The flexure hinge, which takes place of the conventional joint, is used as the translational and rotational hinges in the new structure. Otherwise, the whole microgripper is monolithic processing, which can efficiently overcome the disadvantages of the conventional hinge with friction, backlash, anderrors caused by the hinge assembly. Firstly, a kind of novel microgripper is designed in this paper, which can accomplish two-dimensional independent motions including a separate grip and single track push without interfering with each other. The bridge type amplifying structure with two-end output is adopted in the gripper to increase the motion range and the capacity of the microgripper. The piezoelectric actuator with fast response and high resolution is used as the drive element. Secondly, the geometrical and kinematical models are established and the formulas of the amplifying ratio, stiffness, maximum stress, and the natural frequency of this model are calculated, respectively. Finally, the FEM (finite element modeling) based on ANSYS software is built up to validate the formulas.

The design and assessment of a flexure-based parallel micromanipulator with two-degrees-of-freedom (2-DOF) for automatic cell injection is presented in this paper. The design and modeling of the micromanipulator are conducted by employing compliance matrix method. The dynamic modeling and analysis via Lagrange equation are conducted to improve the bandwidth of the mechanism. Both theoretical analysis and finite element analysis (FEA) results well validate the good performance of the micromanipulator which will be applied to practical cell manipulations.

This paper analyses a class of bridge-type distributed-compliance mechanism, which has better performances than traditional bridge-type mechanisms using notch flexure hinges. An analytical model for the displacement amplification ratio and input stiffness calculations of the bridge-type mechanism is established based on the stiffness matrix method. The finite element analysis results are then given to validate the correctness of the analytical model. The differences of the analytical results with respect to the finite element analysis results are less than 8%, which demonstrate the high accuracy of the analytical model. The influences of the geometric parameters on the amplification ratio and input stiffness of the mechanism are also investigated using the analytical model to provide theoretical guidelines for the practical design.
