Whitings, the manifestation of high levels of suspended fine-grained calcium carbonate particles in the water, have been reported and studied worldwide. However, the triggering mechanism of whiting occurrences remains uncertain. The current study attempted to analyze potential factors that might account for whiting occurrences in a semi-enclosed gulf (namely the Arabian/Persian Gulf, hereinafter called the Gulf). First, spatial and temporal variability of whiting events and different potential driving factors (i.e., whiting seasonality, wind-induced mixing, sea surface temperature, and bathymetry) were explored and examined for five years (2015–2020). Second, as a general indicator of whiting occurrences in the Gulf, a whiting index (WI) was developed using time-series analysis and decision tree (DT) classification algorithm. Third, the correlation between the proposed WI and the spatial coverage of various whiting events was examined. Time-series analysis showed that whiting events during the winter season are associated with high winds that lasted for several days. Nevertheless, whiting events were rarely observed despite high wind speed and increased potential for CaCO3 precipitation in summer. This finding suggests that wind-driven forces might be potential sources for mixing water columns, resuspension of CaCO3 particles, and the appearance of whiting in the Gulf. The DT classification algorithm demonstrated that a minimum WI value of 1.1 can explain the initiation of most summer and winter whiting events. Furthermore, a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.73 was measured between WI and the extent of whiting along the UAE and Qatar coastlines in the Gulf. The proposed WI shows a simple yet effective method for identifying and estimating the extent of whiting in the Gulf.

Abstract. Climate change and the associated rise in air temperature have affected the Tibetan Plateau to a significantly stronger degree than the global average over the past decades. This has caused deglaciation, permafrost degradation and increased precipitation, heavily changing the water balance of this region. Surface displacement processes are likely to change as the ground continues to warm up and as such it is vital to understand both seasonal and interannual processes dynamics. The Nam Co area is well suited to studying these processes via Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) time series analysis, due to its lack of higher vegetation and relatively thin snow cover. The short revisit time of the Sentinel-1 system further reduces the risk of temporal decorrelation, making it possible to produce surface displacement models with good spatial coverage. We created three different surface displacement models to study freeze-thaw processes, seasonal sliding and linear creep. Most slopes of the area are unstable, with velocities of 8 to 17 mm yr−1, and some landforms reach velocities of up to 18 cm yr−1. The monsoonal climate accelerates those movements during the summer months through high temperatures and heavy rainfall. The fastest moving landforms, some of which have been identified as rock glaciers, do not follow this seasonal pattern of accelerated velocity in summer, instead they follow a linear sliding pattern. It is unclear if this linearity is connected to the ice content in those landforms. Flat regions at Nam Co are mostly stable on a multiannual scale but some experience subsidence, which could be caused by permafrost degradation. We observe a very clear seasonal freeze-thaw cycle in the valleys, where thawing and subsequent freezing of the active layer cause a vertical oscillation of the ground of up to a few centimeters, especially near streams and other water bodies.

<p>Time series analysis has been developed in concepts and theories to accommodate the behavior of the collected data by involving time. The unique feature of time series analysis is the time dependency. In this research, we observed a number of seasonal pets, fire caterpillars, on an oil palm plantation at Block Afdeling-D in Kalimantan. The number of Fire Caterpillars is dependent on time and spatial (location). Fire Caterpillars are seasonal pests on oil palm plantation. In addition, Pearson correlation indicates that the number of Fire Caterpillars is not influenced by the distance among the blocks. We suggests that the disinfection should be done simultaneously to avoid the migration of fire caterpillars. The spreading of fire caterpillars at Block Afdeling-D in Kalimantan is modeled with time series seasonal model, spesifically with ARIMA homoscedastic model. Research  background  and  hypothesis.  Traditional  time  series  analysis  techniques,  which  are  also  used  for the analysis of cardiovascular signals, do not reveal the relationship between the  changes in the indices recorded associated with the multiscale and chaotic structure of the tested object, which allows establishing short-and long-term structural and functional changes.Research aim was to reveal the dynamical peculiarities of interactions of cardiovascular system indices while evaluating the functional state of track-and-field athletes and Greco-Roman wrestlers.Research methods. Twenty two subjects participated in the study, their average age of 23.5 ± 1.7 years. During the study standard 12 lead electrocardiograms (ECG) were recorded. The following ECG parameters were used in the study: duration of RR interval taken from the II standard lead, duration of QRS complex, duration of JT interval and amplitude of ST segment taken from the V standard lead.Research  results.  Significant  differences  were  found  between  inter-parametric  connections  of  ST  segment amplitude and JT interval duration at the pre and post-training testing. Observed changes at different hierarchical levels of the body systems revealed inadequate cardiac metabolic processes, leading to changes in the metabolic rate of the myocardium and reflected in the dynamics of all investigated interactions.Discussion and conclusions. It has been found that peculiarities of the interactions of ECG indices interactions show the exposure of the  functional changes in the body at the onset of the workload. The alterations of the functional state of the body and the signs of fatigue, after athletes performed two high intensity training sessions per day, can be assessed using the approach of the evaluation of interactions between functional variables. Therefore the evaluation of the interactions of physiological signals by using time series analysis methods is suitable for the observation of these processes and the functional state of the body.Keywords: electrocardiogram, time series, functional state.

Economic growth of countries is one of the fundamental questions in economics. Most African countries are opening their economies for welcoming of foreign investors. As such Ethiopia, like many African countries took measures to attract and improve foreign direct investment. The purpose of this study is to examine the contribution of foreign direct investment (FDI) for economic growth of Ethiopia over the period of 1981-2013. The study shows an overview of Ethiopian economy and investment environment by the help of descriptive and econometric methods of analysis to establish empirical investigation for the contribution of FDI on Ethiopian economy. OLS method of time series analysis is employed to analyse the data. The stationary of the variables have been checked by using Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) Unit Root test and hence they are stationery at first difference. The co- integration test also shows that there is a long run relationship between the dependent and independent variables. Accordingly, the finding of the study shows that FDI, GDP per capita, exchange rate, total investment as percentage of GDP, inflow of FDI stock, trade as percentage of GDP, annual growth rate of GDP and liberalization of the economy have positive impact on Ethiopian GDP. Whereas Gross fixed domestic investment, inflows of FDI and Gross capital formation influence economic growth of Ethiopia negatively. This finding suggests that there should be better policy framework to attract and improve the volume of FDI through creating conducive environment for investment.
