Unsafe behaviours, such as violations of rules and procedures, are commonly identified as important causal factors in coal mine accidents. Meanwhile, a recurring conclusion of accident investigations is that worker states, such as mental fatigue, illness, physiological fatigue, etc., are important contributory factors to unsafe behaviour. In this article, we seek to provide a quantitative analysis on the relationship between the worker state and unsafe behaviours in coal mine accidents, based on a case study drawn from Chinese practice. Using Bayesian networks (BN), a graphical structure of the network was designed with the help of three experts from a coal mine safety bureau. In particular, we propose a verbal versus numerical fuzzy probability assessment method to elicit the conditional probability of the Bayesian network. The junction tree algorithm is further employed to accomplish this analysis. According to the BN established by expert knowledge, the results show that when the worker is in a poor state, the most vulnerable unsafe behaviour is violation, followed by decision-making error. Furthermore, insufficient experience may be the most significant contributory factor to unsafe behaviour, and poor fitness for duty may be the principal state that causes unsafe behaviours.

According to the grey theory, in order to predict and prevent accident effectively, the paper built a grey model and forecast the mine accidents in china in 2013 based on the statistics of mine accidents happened in China during period from 2007 to 2012. MATLAB was used to write procedure code of GM (1, 1) and empirical verification follows. The prediction results show that if high accuracy goes with the precision of the calculable model, which could be used to provide the basis for decision making to the safety production management practices in China. This case study indicates that GM (1, 1) plays an important role in mine safety management.

Abstract Recent developments in digital technology have revitalized interest in the relationship between technology and management accounting. Yet, few empirical in-depth studies have assessed how digital technologies influence the roles of management accountants. This paper builds on the concept of jurisdiction to illuminate the relationship between management accountants, expert knowledge and digital technology. The study identifies and describes competition over jurisdiction between management accountants and other groups of employees. The study describes a shift for divisional management accountants towards narrower roles in their tasks and expectations, while business-oriented roles at group level are found to entail expanding tasks and expectations. In doing so, management accountants are divided into two divergent categories facing different expectations: divisional and group level management accountants. Through a case study in the technology-oriented finance sector, the paper contributes to the debate on the roles of management accountants in a number of ways. First, it describes how digital technology can contribute to narrower and more specialized roles. Second, it describes how digital technology can contribute to competition between professions. Third, it elucidates how digital technology contributes to changes in the behaviour of decision makers, and in their expectations toward, and the involvement of, management accountants. Fourth, it details how the changes contributed by digital technology in the roles of management accountants can act as mediators in the identity-work of management accountants. Finally, it empirically describes the relationships between digital technology and management accountants’ roles.

Abstract The paper is to present a multi-criteria approach for sustainability assessment of manufacturing processes, which can be applied to carry out the sustainability assessment of manufacturing processes requiring less detailed data, time, and expert knowledge, but still providing a company-level analysis. The analytical hierarchy process method is used to determine ranking of simple and relevant activity areas for manufacturing processes in terms of sustainability objectives. Analytical technique is also employed to assess the degree of sustainability in manufacturing due to limited information which appear to be a characteristic of the case study presented. One goal of sustainability characterization methodology is to improve the manufacturing sustainability performance. Similar to the baseline scenario, sustainability reevaluation for sustainability improvement is also applied and discuses performance profile at the process level. This approach seems particularly useful when comparing different processes. It makes applicable for various industries and might be a challenge to derive priorities for systematic improvement. The applicability and usability of the proposed assessment method was verified by the case study in company producing heating devices.

In this paper, a new assessment method based on the interval evidential reasoning (IER) rule is proposed to solve the problem of physical and mechanical property assessment (PMPA) for particleboards. Because the detection data of the density and thickness swelling (TS) of particleboards are in an interval form, a model with precise values as input becomes inappropriate, so the PMPA of particleboards is not feasible. In the proposed method, expert knowledge and interval data are integrated to solve the assessment problem. First, the overall reliability of attributes is calculated, and the interval data are transformed into an interval belief structure. Then, the multiple interval belief structures are aggregated by ER nonlinear optimization models. Finally, the assessment results are obtained by utility theory. With the proposed method, the PMPA of particleboards with interval values can be assessed reasonably, and the combination interval belief degree of different grades of particleboard can be obtained, which has a certain guiding significance for the production and subsequent operation of enterprises. A case study for the PMPA of particleboards is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The height of the water-conducting fractured zone (WCFZ) is a basic parameter related to water protection in coal mines and is also crucial for aquifer protection and mine safety. In order to accurately detect the height and shape and reveal the formation mechanism of the WCFZ, which is caused by middle-deep coal seam mining in a sandy region, the 112201 coalface at the 1# coal mine of Xiaobaodang was taken as a case study. Filed measurements including fluid leakage, borehole TV, and similar simulation were adopted to analyze the regularity of the WCFZ in this area. The detection results of field measurements showed that the maximum height of the WCFZ was 177.07 m in a borehole near the open-off cut, and the ratio of the height of the water-conducting fractured zone divided by the mining thickness was 30.53. The WCFZ acquired an inward-convergent saddle shape, which was inclined to the goaf. The saddle bridge was located at the boundary of the goaf, and the saddle ridge was located at the center of the goaf. Also, through analyzing the results of similar simulations, we found that, in the process of mining, separation cracks and the beam structure were the main forms of overburden disturbance transmitting upward and ahead of mining, respectively. The main cause of the increase in height of the WCFZ was the connection of the separation cracks and vertical cracks caused by fractures of beam structures. The development of the WCFZ was divided into five stages: incubation stage, development stage, rapidly increasing stage, slowly increasing stage, and stable stage. Moreover, the duration of each stage was related to the lithology and mining technology. This research can provide significant theoretical insights for the prediction of the WCFZ, enabling the prevention of water hazards on mine roofs and assisting with water resources protection.

This paper statistically analyzes the large coal mine gas accidents in China since 2006, and points out that explosion and gas outburst are the main reasons of gas accident, and focus in the future should be put on those serious accidents caused by gas explosion. Death toll of large gas accidents in 2009 is equal to that in 2008, which illustrates the importance of safety input in order to further improve the coal mine safety situation in China. In order to raise consciousness of enterprises on safety input, this paper puts forward the idea of integrating the value of life casualties’ loss into the analysis of loss in coal mine accidents and builds an optimization model of optimization of safety input based on maximization of economic benefit and thorough analysis of safety input, economic losses caused by coal mine accidents and loss of human life. With reference to foreign practices and related research, the value of life for each person is finally set from 5 million to 30 million. Finally it is proved through case study that the consideration of value of life is vital to improve the level of safety input and reduce mortality. Since 2005, the number of deaths caused by gas accident many years occupied the first coal mine accident in major categories. Therefore, the gas accident occurred in recent year statistical analysis, to take specific measures for improving the level of China's coal mine safety is important.
