The change in business management towards a vision based on open innovation has opened the doors to knowledge transfer between organizations, promoting scientific–technological collaborations resulting in new research that opens the way to new technological innovations. Therefore, the objective of this study is to see how the company Iberdrola has oriented its management strategy towards an open innovation approach, analyzing both its scientific and technological development through a bibliometric and network analysis. The results highlight that Iberdrola has always considered scientific and technological development to be part of its strategic approach as a means of disseminating and transferring knowledge. Furthermore, it can be concluded that the implementation of strategic axes related to sustainable development in an open innovation environment has improved the results of its scientific and technical production, and also the company’s financial results.

Online communities are becoming an important way to support firms towards an open innovation approach. However, knowledge shared in an online community represents only a potential for firm's innovation aims. The effectiveness of exploration and exploitation of this knowledge depends on firm's absorptive capacity. In this work the authors focus on the time an idea, shared within an online community, takes to be transformed from a ‘potential' into a ‘realized' innovation by a firm. In particular, conceiving knowledge as a trajectory across pole of attraction rather than a linear process, the authors develop a model inspired by the solar system metaphor. Preliminary results from a case study are presented. They suggest firms may improve the effectiveness of absorptive capacity exploiting the mediation role of a software tool.

PurposeGenerally, there is a common sense to consider knowledge sharing and creation as two separate processes but a new matter emerges when those processes are intertwining. In this vein, this research aims to discuss on the lens of the open innovation (OI) model how such intertwining generates digital platform-based ecosystem.Design/methodology/approachThe theoretical approach is used to largely discuss the intertwining of knowledge sharing and creation in the current digital era. It debates such scenario considering past and present studies and suggests future research streamlines.FindingsIt offers a new theoretical model that can be implemented in a micro, meso and macro level where the concept of “ba” (or ba-sho) assumes the form of a digital platform where knowledge sharing is in motion and dynamically interacts with the knowledge creation.Originality/valueBy discussing the intertwining of knowledge creation and sharing in OI context along with digital trends (e.g. platform innovation ecosystems and platform innovation management), the study offers a new conceptual framework that relies on such intertwining accompanied by the concept of “ba – sho.” In this vein, research limits and new research are suggested to demonstrate and support this conceptual study.

. This research has as scope the verification of which are the main groups, lines of research and regions that worked with Didactics of the Sciences in Brazil between 2003-2012. For that, a study with qualitative approach, exploratory purposes, case study method and documentary collection was carried out. The data were collected on the website of the Directory of Research Groups in Brazil of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), using the keyword "didactics of science". It was verified that only two research groups dedicate themselves specifically to Science Didactics studies and that the two are in the Northeast Region. In addition, we identified seven lines of research focused on the production of knowledge about Science Didactics. It was concluded that this subarea of Education in Sciences has a great potential of growth in the country, since the dedication to the epistemological studies on the teaching phenomena still has to be consolidated in Brazil.

Crowdsourcing provides companies with access to widespread knowledge pools and constitutes a well-established inbound open innovation practice. More recently, some companies have introduced the approach of open innovation within their company boundaries. Using internal crowdsourcing (IC), companies can apply open innovation principles to overcome information silos. Multinational corporations often have thousands of employees around the globe, embedded in divisions and virtually separated from each other. Although a large proportion of companies nowadays use social IT to mitigate problems of distance, only a few companies can access their employees’ wisdom effectively—let alone efficiently. With almost 100,000 employees worldwide, SAP possesses significant resources, which IC can help to unlock and develop. In this business case study, we report the findings of our investigation of five IC implementations at SAP. Based on interviews and secondary data, we analyze the process and related governance tasks of the different IC approaches. The applications for IC range from the search for new and sustainable business models to an approach that uses crowdsourcing for the competence development of SAP’s employees. Our paper contributes to our understanding of open innovation and crowdsourcing by conceptualizing IC as a form of internal open innovation. Further, from our observations, we derive six lessons learned to support managers in implementing and executing IC initiatives successfully. Our findings will subsequently help managers to increase the innovation capabilities of their companies, create more sustainable business models, further the entrepreneurial mindset of their employees and thus provide a competitive advantage.

Running a business in the current context is a complex task. Changes and market requirements are becoming more dynamic. Given this reality it is necessary to simulate possible scenarios. Studies of scenario simulation have emerged to enable organizations a guidance on this new reality. Using a methodology based on critical variables, the simulation of scenarios extends the capability of organizations visualize their future strategic actions in order to achieve their goals. Through the theoretical framework, this study aimed to study this methodology, gathering information and presenting the main concepts related to the subject to, in the case study, apply them in the fund sources of FUNTEF-PR, Campus Pato Branco. The study found that a scenario rarely happens exactly as it was simulated, but it reduces the future organizational uncertainties. It is shown as a tool able to assist the organization in defining its strategy, at the same time, allowing a more flexible and appropriate position to deal with the uncertainty and the new, making the future less doubtful.

In this paper, a bibliometric analysis about open innovation research is developed, covering the period of 2003-2013 (using the Scopus database) and carried out in three steps: 1) characterization of the research on the main trends of open innovation; 2) analysis of the theoretical influence on the open innovation research; 3) analysis of the influence of open innovation literature on other research areas and disciplines. The main conclusions are: open innovation research is mostly focused on the analysis of the U.S.A. and European countries reality; analysis by time periods shows an increase on the number of target countries and regions of open innovation research; the origins of open innovation were influenced by several areas of economics and management, developed over the last decades; there is a lack of research regarding open innovation outside the firm environment, such as in clusters/networks, innovation systems, public policies or at individual level; open innovation research is influencing a growing number of areas outside business, management and engineering; new research methodologies should be used by open innovation scholars in order to deepen the existing knowledge.

Language is a vector of development. “Considered like privileged vehicle of transfer of knowledge and ideas, the language plays an irreplaceable role (…) in all the process of scientific and technological development” (Diki-Kidiri, 2004: 27). It is the means of expressing or communicating ideas which provide the capacity to communicate, thus making it a tool crucial to social organization and technological development. Indeed, language and development are intimately and incontestably linked that no country in the world could develop under using a language other than that of the concerned population. On the other hand, migration is not a new phenomenon: humans are migratory species. For economic or security reasons, people migrate. They moved to new location and new language ecologies where they come in contact with speakers of a specific set of other languages. These changes in the linguistic environment are not without consequences. At this juncture, it is worth noting that to reach their own objectives, immigrants as well as the developers: partners, animators, sensitisers, NGOs agents are in need of language of communication as the development constitutes a process in the center of which the language is. This paper focuses on the utility of language in action in order to understand how can language blocs, impedes immigrants in their daily interaction as it is inconceivable for man to do almost any activity that he does without the use of language. The research utilizes qualitative research methodology by incorporating structured interviews. Another research instrument I use is obtrusive observation to find out which of the second language acquisition, code switching, code mixing or even translation can help immigrants overcome language barriers and experience successful economic and social integration in the host country.
