The aim of this paper is to examine the current and potential capability to promote the green economy in Mexico, simultaneously detecting new opportunities for diversification and “green” productive sophistication so that Mexican entities can move toward environmentally friendly ecological products. For this, we adopted a novel methodology to measure the productive capabilities of the green economy in Mexico, thereby discovering the green product space at a subnational scale. Economic complexity methods were used to estimate the Green Complexity Index (GCI) and the Green Complexity Potential (GCP) for 32 Mexican regions considering a time series from 2004 to 2018 and a set of data on international trade in ecological products. The main findings are reflected in a grid of the Green Adjacent Possible (GAP) and a heatmap that shows the “grasslands” (current green products by state). The results are likely to influence industrial policy and state innovation agendas. A limitation of this work is that it is based only on data from the formal, industrial, and regulated economy. The originality lies in the fact that there were no previous studies in the context analyzed, and the fecundity of the research reflects the need to expand the study with a focus on green business models.

The article is devoted to the problem of creating favorable conditions and incentives for attracting investments in alternative energy projects in the regions. An analysis of Russian practice in the field of “green” financing showed that individual projects are being effectively implemented, but there is no established mechanism for attracting investments for “green” energy projects in the regions. The implementation of high-tech projects requires large amounts of investment, but in most cases, “green” business models are of high-risk and require a set of additional measures and incentives. The study suggests approach to the management of investment processes in regional alternative energy projects in accordance with the concept of green economy, formulates management algorithm, and gives full description of each stage. This work recommendations and results can be used in needed regions investment attractiveness raise measures elaboration for alternative energy projects realization.

The issues of the environmentally friendly business development in Russia are considered in the paper. The authors research the concept of green production and market, management tools for corporate environmental responsibility. The paper examines the environmental innovations as changes in the socio-economic development of the society, which, together with a positive effect, improve the state of the environment or significantly reduce the negative impact on it. In the conclusion, the authors state that the greening of the enterprise’s relations with consumers implies, on the one hand, encouraging the supply of environmental goods and services, and on the other, creating a consumers’ good taste - economic needs and interests oriented to high eco standards. In the paper, the necessity of the green business guidelines implementation in Russia is justified. It helps to form and improve the entrepreneurial culture and a responsible attitude towards society and nature, as well as to promote principles of green economy.

Purpose Green business models (GBMs) in the construction sector represent the logic of green value creation and capture. Hence, the call to examine GBMs is growing ever louder. The aim of this paper is to identify benefits of GBMs by adopting five essential elements of the GBM from the literature: green value proposition; target group; key activities; key resources (KR); and financial logic. Design/methodology/approach In all, 19 semi-structured interviews are conducted with construction sector practitioners and academics in the UK. Thematic analysis is used to obtain benefits of GBMs. Further, the interpretive ranking process (IRP) is used to examine which elements of the GBM have a dominant role in providing benefits to construction businesses. Findings The benefits are grouped into three themes: credibility/reputation benefits; financial benefits; and long-term viability benefits. The IRP model shows that the element of KR is the most important when evaluated against these three benefit themes. Practical implications Linking GBM elements and benefits will help companies in the construction sector to analyse the business case of embracing environmental sustainability. Originality/value This research is one of the few empirical academic works investigating the benefits of GBMs in the construction sector. The IRP method is a novel contribution to GBMs and construction research.

In combination they will all be important supporting tools to the Multi Business Model Innovation Brain – but now also to the Green Multi Business Model Innovation Brain. 8 case examples shows how Green Multi Business Model Innovation Brains can work in different contexts – in physical, digital, virtual and combined Business Model ecosystems.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impact of taxes on economic growth in the long run as well as in the short run. Design/methodology/approach The study uses simple time series model, where real GDP is dependent variable and different forms of taxes are explanatory variables under ARDL framework from 1976 to 2014 at annual frequency for Pakistan. Findings Direct taxes have positive relation with economic growth in the long run. Sales tax, tax on international trade (tariffs) and other indirect taxes have positive impact on economic growth of Pakistan in the long run as well as in the short run. However, sales tax and other indirect taxes impact negatively on economic growth in the short run after one year because people realize decline in their real income. Practical implications Government should increase direct taxes by increasing tax base. Indirect taxes usually indicate negative impact after one and two years; therefore, government should decrease its reliance on indirect taxes. Government should promote tax awareness among the people which increase the tax morale of people and increase the tax base. Originality/value Taxes are disaggregated into direct and indirect taxes, while indirect taxes have been further disaggregated into excise duty, sales tax, surcharges, tax on international trade and other indirect taxes. This study provides useful insight for policy makers in designing taxes and their effect on growth.

Challenges in the context of global megatrends, such as global warming, endangerment of global ecosystems or the consequences of the enormous population increase, will have to be faced in the coming decades. New, unconventional solution approaches to protect the environment and resources will be portrayed with the aid of selected examples – with the use of textile materials for architecture in sustainable urban development taking ecology, economics, as well as socio-cultural factors into consideration. ‘Lighthouses’ in the form of ecological pilot projects to also show the technical and creative advantages of textiles, enabling real-life testing of innovations for more sustainability, raise awareness and enhance the recognition and acceptance of ‘Green Business Models’.
