Modified activated carbon composites were prepared and their catalytic properties were evaluated in the H2O2decomposition. Activated carbon alone showed very low activities compared to iron and manganese oxides / activated carbon composites, suggesting that the presence of Fe and Mn in the oxide plays an important role for the activation of H2O2. The presence of Mn in the composite structure produced a remarkable increase in the reactivity. The obtained results showed that the peroxide decomposition catalyzed by GACFM met pseudo-first-order kinetic and the maximum OH· production was on GACF1M3.The decomposition mechanism of H2O2was analyzed in detail.

Iron and manganese oxides/granular activated carbon composite (GACFM) was prepared via a chemical coprecipitation route, followed by a heat treatment at elevated temperature. The as–prepared GACFM was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The main iron and manganese oxides actually present in the composites were mainly composed of Fe3O4 ,Mn3O4 and (FeO)x(MnO)1-x. The adsorption and catalytic properties of GACFM and some conditions effects such as H2O2, pH , temperature and CO32- were studied for the removal of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (TCP) from aqueous medium. The adsorption of TCP on GACFM obeyed the Freundlich isotherms. When the initial concentration of H2O2 was 0.4mg/L , 5mg/L TCP removal rate was maximum on the GACFM. The treatment of TCP could be carried out at initial pH under 7.0. CO32- can scavenge •OH in solution and decreased TCP removal. In the whole, GACFM was satisfactory absorbent and catalyst for the removal of chlorophenol from water.

Taking plateau red soil as research object, using the ultrasonic-assisted organic acid extraction the heavy metal zinc in it, and analyze the form of zinc. Results showed that the extraction rate can reach 68%, with the increase of time, the extraction effect of zinc is obviously enhanced in this method. Ultrasonic-assisted citric acid extraction soil can increase the extraction rate of exchangeable, bound to carbonates and bound to iron and manganese oxides relatively.

Hierarchical density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise (HDBSCAN) and uniform manifold approximation and projection (UMAP), two new state-of-the-art algorithms for clustering analysis, and dimensionality reduction, respectively, are proposed for the segmentation of core-loss electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) spectrum images. The performances of UMAP and HDBSCAN are systematically compared to the other clustering analysis approaches used in EELS in the literature using a known synthetic dataset. Better results are found for these new approaches. Furthermore, UMAP and HDBSCAN are showcased in a real experimental dataset from a core–shell nanoparticle of iron and manganese oxides, as well as the triple combination nonnegative matrix factorization–UMAP–HDBSCAN. The results obtained indicate how the complementary use of different combinations may be beneficial in a real-case scenario to attain a complete picture, as different algorithms highlight different aspects of the dataset studied.
