(100)-oriented PLZT ((Pb1-x, Lax) (Zry,Ti1-y)1-x/4O3, x/y=9/65) films of up to ~ 1.23 μm have been developed on LaAlO3single crystal substrate by magnetron sputtering. The as-grown PLZT thin films exhibit high optical transparency in visible and near-infrared light wavelength and high quadratic (Kerr) EO coefficients. Prism coupler measurements reveal that the PLZT thin films possess large refractive index, as high as 2.524 in TE model and 2.481 in TM model. The transparency of >70% in the range of λ= 500-1200 nm, the optic band gap of 3.42 eV and the quadratic electro-optic (EO) coefficient of 3.38 x 10-17(m/V)2have been measured in the films. Due to the large EO coefficient and the micrometric thickness, the as-developed PLZT films have great potential in developing longitudinal-or transverse-type EO devices in electric and optic field

DC power and RF power were introduced into the magnetic controlled sputtering system simultaneously to deposit AZO films in order to get an acceptable deposition rate with high quality transparency conducting thin film. The resistivity decreases with the RF power for the as-deposited samples. The resistivity of 6 × 10−4 Ω-cm and 3.5–4.5 × 10−4 Ω-cm is obtained for the as-deposited sample, and for all annealed samples, respectively. The transmittance of the AZO films with higher substrate temperature is generally above 80% for the incident light wavelength within 400–800 nm. The transmittance of the as-deposited samples reveals a clear blue shift phenomenon. The AZO films present (002) oriented preference as can be seen from the X-ray diffraction curves. All AZO films reveal compressive stress. The annealing process improves the electrical property of AZO films. A significant blue shift phenomenon has been found, which may have a great application for electrode in solar cell.

ABSTRACTWe show theoretically that the change in the magnetization structure of magnetic metallic multilayers under the application of a magnetic field shall be generally associated with a significant change of the refractive index. This constitutes a new magnetooptical effect: the magnetorefractive effect.Optical transmission measurements under an applied magnetic field through [Ni80Fe20/Cu/Co/Cu] multilayers, in the light wavelength region between 2 μm and 20 μm, clearly demonstrate the existence of the predicted effect and are found in reasonnable agreement with the theoretical calculations.
