Prokofiev's correspondence is enormous; it is inhabited by innumerabLe personaLities. The muLtifaceted nature of inner-seLf of composer was reveaLed in his Letters, which dispLay a great diversity in styLe, to different peopLe wherein he strove to baLance between dipLomacy and tendency to tyranny. PeopLe famous and unknown are present on the pages of Prokofiev's correspondence. A new materiaL gives new accents of different nature, varied perspectives in his Letters: unknown information emerge, unwonted human characteristics are discovered, even new artisticaL principLes and some creative aspects become known in unaccustomed ways. Everyday Life of the musician, his concert trips and many troubLes which accompany such trips, are the centraL topic of many among the Prokofiev's Letters. Prokofiev's correspondents in this compiLation are director of the Russian MusicaL Edition where his works had been pubLished - GavriiL Grigorievich Paichadze; outstanding painter made one of the most unusuaL Prokofiev's portraits Yakov Naumovich MiLkin; great pianist and conductor ALexander IL'ich ZiLoti; famous harpist Ksenia ALeksandrovna ErdeLi; Sergey YakovLevich Efron - white army officer, NKVD agent; Lev Nikolaevich ToLstoy's ex'daughter-in-Law Sofia NikoLaevna; famous Soviet painter Piotr Petrovich KonchaLovsky. The main goaL of this work is to highLight some previousLy unknown passages of Prokofiev's Life. AdditionaLLy, unpubLished Letters offer new information about the cuLturaL and artistic processes in Europe, the USA and the USSR in the 1920s and earLy 1930s.

<p>The forefront of science now is in bridging fields and making connections across different disciplines, challenging our current understanding of the Earth's changes and overall state. Some of the most challenging science questions now have to do with warnings for significant geohazards and Earth-Space systems' response to climate variability affecting adaptation processes, such as geosphere changes due to climate change and resultant strategies. In recent years, the study of pre-earthquake processes has led for example to developing the lithosphere-atmosphere-ionosphere-coupling concept. This in turn provides new information about the Earth's energy balance (Pulinets and Ouzounov, 2011). From space-born NASA and NOAA Earth observation of atmospheric conditions, we have shown the consistent occurrence of radiative emission anomalies in the atmosphere near or over regions of earthquakes, volcanoes, and geothermal fluxes. Our assessment shows that the latent heat released before major earthquakes is larger than the seismic energy released during the quake (Ouzounov et al., 2018). We find that the associated pre-earthquake phenomena for large events may create an additional thermodynamic contribution in the atmosphere and impact on climate, caused by sources of Earth de-gassing in the lithosphere and followed by ionization processes. Because of these findings, we start exploring major global geodynamics activities and their impact on atmospheric processes and climate through the geosphere coupling channels as a potential forward process of interaction between geohazards and climate adaptation. The reverse mechanism of climate adaptation's impact on geohazards is based on the initial idea that climate adaptation could force additional geohazards activities (McGuire, 2010). The removal of ice sheets may somehow or likely have permitted the release of stresses that had accumulated on previously confined faults, triggering earthquakes in the US, Canada, and Europe. How realistically is it to expect a change in the existing earthquake patterns in Europe, the USA, and Canada during climate change processes? It is plausible, but we do not yet know the answer. Our goal is to explore the coupling between geohazards processes and climate change processes through the lithosphere-atmosphere framework, focusing on dynamic environments, exhibiting a change in physical and thermodynamics processes over relatively small-time scales.</p>

MIGRATION AND SOCIOCULTURAL CHANGE IN TWO RURAL COMMUNITIES FROM CHALATENANGO, EL SALVADORABSTRACTThis article presents results from the piece of research titled «Gender and Migration: Family Recomposition.» This study was conducted in the municipalities of Comalapa and Concepción Quezaltepeque in Chalatenango, El Salvador. Fieldwork was carried out between 2009 and 2010. The analysis of the migration phenomenon experienced in El Salvador has been taken from this piece of research. This analysis was made from a cultural hybridization perspective and focuses on the everyday life in the aforementioned municipalities. The intention is to compare the cultural dynamics established between the two, taking into consideration that in the former, people migrate to the USA, whereas in the latter they mostly migrate to Italy.

In a short novel by contemporary Russian writer Vladimir Sorokin “White square” (2018), the moderator of the show with the same title gets killed during the show in which four guests express their visions of present society. Everyone can follow the killing on-line, having voted shortly before for the most entertaining guest. After having received an injection of a new chemical formula which is supposed to entertain the audience, the four participants get wild and destroy the whole show enjoyed by the audience. A new moderator is being engaged to let the show go on... This rather gothic plot shows another part of the reality – the memories of the director of the show about someone, a person unknown to the reader, who has been killed to start the bloody entertainment. The ring, made of the skin of this unknown person gets lost and lands in a realm beyond the on-line entertainment culture: poor workers, their uneducated wives and alcoholics, who still inhabit the off-line everyday life of low wages, heavy physical jobs and simple joys ignored by blood thirsty audience, voting and selling advertisement time for higher prices. Both groups, digital media users and poor underpaid blue collars are in contemporary Europe and the USA targets for populist messages in media.

AbstractThe purpose of this article is to introduce and explore the political potential of visual autoethnography. I do so through my experience of working as a Swiss Army officer in the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Drawing on my own photographs I examine how an appreciation of everyday aesthetic sensibilities can open up new ways of thinking about security dilemmas. I argue that visual autoethnography can be insightful not because it offers better or even authentic views – it cannot – but because it has the potential to reveal how prevailing political discourses are so widely rehearsed and accepted that we no longer see their partial, political, and often problematic nature. I illustrate this potential in two ways: (1) how a self-reflective engagement with my own photographs of the DMZ reveals the deeply entrenched role of militarised masculinities; (2) how my positionality and my photographs of everyday life in North Korea show that prevailing security discourses are highly particular and biased, even though they are used to justify seemingly objective policy decisions.

Abstract Hemiplectus muscorum, the type and single representative of its genus, is redescribed on the basis of abundant new material collected in the UK, Canada and the USA using both light and scanning electron microscopy. The phylogenetic relationships of the species are inferred from morphological as well as molecular data. Maximum parsimony, neighbour joining and maximum likelihood analyses of small subunit (SSU) rRNA sequences support a position nested among the Plectidae. This conflicts with our morphological assumptions of character polarity, as it implies that the absence of a valvate bulb in Hemiplectus is a reversal rather than a plesiomorphy. The excretory system of Hemiplectus is described more precisely. Its structure is highly reminiscent of the system in Plectus but differs in the presence of an anterior and posterior pair of pseudocoelomocytes flanking the renette cell. A pair of lateral somatic setae is identified as possible homologues of the 'deirids' in Plectus and Rhabditida. Measurements and descriptions are given of all four juvenile stages.

Publications of fieldwork continue to appear slowly, but the latest volume of ADelt for Crete, covering the years 2001–2004, appeared in print in summer 2012 (ADelt 56–59 [2001–2004] B5). Inevitably, given the years covered, some of the activity summarized in this volume has already been noted in AG and brief notices of some appears in the decadal summary of the activities of all the prehistoric and Classical ephorias (www.yppo.gr/0/anaskafes; AR 58 [2011–2012] 58). Emphasis here is on those activities not already noted in AG or those where significant new information appears in the new volume of ADelt. The second meeting on Archaeological Work on Crete (AWiC2), alluded to last year (AR 58 [2011–2012] 58), has been published and can be read online through the University of Crete's Library (http://elocus.lib.uoc.gr/dlib/d/0/5/metadata-dlib-1368695830-557833-31681.tkl#). A third meeting is scheduled for December 2013 and will hopefully be made accessible with equally commendable promptness. The proceedings of the Tenth International Cretological Congress held in Chania in 2006 (see AR 53 [2006–2007] 96) are still to appear in print, although e-offprints of individual contributions continue to circulate. New material in this year's entry is therefore drawn primarily from ADelt 56–59 (2001–2004) B5 and AWiC2.The past year has seen a number of significant publications on prehistoric Crete, including the proceedings of several conferences. The publication by the BSA of Intermezzo: Intermediacy and Regeneration in Middle Minoan III Palatial Crete (Macdonald and Knappett [2013]), containing papers presented at a workshop held in 2008, complements volumes noted last year (AR 58 [2011–2012] 58) on Late Minoan IB ceramics (Brogan and Hallager [2011]) and on the Prepalatial and Protopalatial periods (Early Minoan to Middle Minoan II) (Schoep et al. [2011]).

As the other creation of material culture, clothes have concrete forms, and reflect the wearer’s taste and appreciation of beauty while provide certain social significance. This paper attempts to analyze the connection between the costume of the hero Elmer Gantry in the novel Elmer Gantry and his self-identity, then to discover how the novelist, Sinclair Lewis ,the first Nobel Prize winner in the USA, by describing the costume of the character, explores the different inner self-identities of one man.

Two new, nearly completely articulated skeletons of Sapeornis chaoyangensis provide much new information about the anatomy of this basal avian, particularly in the skull, pectoral girdle, forelimb, and hind limb. This new material shows that the hand of Sapeornis, with a phalangeal formula of "2–3–2," was more derived than previously reconstructed. The skeleton of Sapeornis has several unique features, such as a distinctively elongated fenestra on the proximal end of the humerus, a robust furcula with a distinctive hypocleidum, and an elongated forelimb. Sapeornis exhibits a combination of derived and primitive features, including a short, robust non-strut-like coracoid and a fibula reaching the distal end of the tarsal joint (as in Archaeopteryx), a pygostyle, reduced manual digits, and a well-fused carpometacarpus (as in more advanced birds). These features further indicate the mosaic pattern in the early evolution of birds and confirm the basal position of Sapeornis near Archaeopteryx and Jeholornic in the phylogeny of early birds. The preservation of gastroliths in one of the new specimens also represents the first Chinese Mesozoic bird with such evidence, indicating a herbivorous feeding habit and providing further evidence for our understanding of the diet diversification in early avian evolution.
