AGE AND GENDER DIFFERENCES IN GROWTH OF MASS, LENGTH AND WIDTH OF CALVARIA IN ONTOGENESIS OF ROMANOV BREED SHEEP

This article presents the results of scientific studies of morphometric indicators of calvary in the pre-and postnatal ontogenesis of Romanov breed sheep. Changes related to the sex of experimental animals were also studied. In order to detect general patterns of growth of calvari morphological parameters, the age stages of selecting material for research were determined: from a 2-month-old fetus to 12 months of postnatal life and from adult sheep 5-6 years old. We measured the mass, length and width of the studied material. The data obtained were subjected to statistical processing. The calvary maturity at each age in percentage, was determined. As a result of our studies, we were able to establish that the growth of linear indicators of calvary subjected to general biological laws of a decrease in its intensity with age, i.e. more rapidly, it proceeds in uterine development compared with postnatal. As for the changes in sex-related animals, it was found that growth of mass, length and width of calvary occurs in both sexes simultaneously and with almost the same intensity. In their growth, two decreases are observed: the first - before birth and the second - from 3 to 6 months. Throughout the entire periods of research, the calvary mass in females approaches its final value faster, and its length, on the contrary, in males. As for its width, in uterine development it grows somewhat faster than in females, and after birth in males. By one-year-old age of sheep, none of the calvari indicators in either males or females reaches its definitive state.

Background Following myocardial infarction, medication is, besides lifestyle interventions, the cornerstone treatment to improve survival and minimize the occurrence of new cardiovascular events. Still, data on nationwide medication adherence are scarce. This study assesses medical adherence during one year following myocardial infarction, stratifying per type of infarct, age and gender. Design Retrospective cohort study. Methods In The Netherlands, all inhabitants are by law obliged to have health insurance and all claims data are centrally registered. In 2012 and 2013, all national diagnosis-codings of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) were acquired. Furthermore, information on retrieved medication was extracted from the Dutch Pharmacy Information System. Twelve months after discharge, the retrieved medication at the pharmacy of each pharmacological therapy (aspirin-species, P2Y12-inhibitor, statin, beta-blocker, angiotensin-converting enzyme-/angiotensin 2-inhibitor, vitamin-K antagonists or novel oral anticoagulant) were analysed. Results In total, 59,534 patients (67 ± 13 years, 39,545 (66%) male, 57% NSTEMI) were included, of whom 52,672 (88%) patients were analysed for one-year medical adherence. STEMI patients more often achieved optimal medical adherence than NSTEMI patients (60% vs. 40%, p ≤ 0.001). In both STEMI and NSTEMI, use of all five indicated drugs was higher in male patients compared with female (STEMI male 61% vs. female 57%, p ≤ 0.001; NSTEMI male 43% vs. female 37%, p ≤ 0.001. With increasing age, a gradual decrease was observed in the use of aspirin, P2Y12-inhibitors and statins. Conclusion Age and gender differences existed in medical adherence after myocardial infarction. Medical adherence was lower in women, young patients and elderly patients, specifically in NSTEMI patients.

According to many studies, the rheovasographic index of the thighs can detect slight changes in the vessels, do not constitute a critical inconvenience, but in advance indicate that more serious diseases of the lower limb are approaching. The purpose of the study is to determine the age and gender features of thigh rheogram indicators in practically healthy adolescents in the Podillia region of Ukraine. The rheographic parameters of the thighs of 103 practically healthy boys aged from 13 to 16 years old and 108 girls aged from 12 to 15 years, urban residents of the Podillia region of Ukraine, were determined using a cardiology computer diagnostic complex. The statistical processing of the obtained results was carried out in the license package “Statistica 5.5” using parametric and nonparametric methods for evaluating the obtained results. In 12-year-old girls, in comparison with other age groups, it was found that most of the amplitude indices (with the exception of the incisura amplitude), the time of the downstream part of the rheogram and the average speed of fast and slow blood flow are significantly higher, while the time of the rising part of the rheogram and fast and slow blood overflow and thumb vascular tone rates in most cases are significantly lower. In most cases, 13 and 14-year-old boys, compared to 15 and 16-year-old adolescents, the basic impedance and amplitude of the systolic wave, as well as most vascular tone rates and average slow-blood flow rates are significantly higher or tend to be higher. It has also been found that most of the time indicators (with the exception of slow blood flow time) in 14-year-old boys are significantly lower or tend to be lower than in other age groups of boys. When comparing rheogram data between boys and girls according to the calendar and biological age, the majority of amplitude and derivative indices, as well as the time of slow blood filling in 14 and 15-year-old girls, are significantly higher in girls. Boys have significantly higher values of the duration of the cardiac cycle and the time of the downstream part of the thigh rheogram, as well as all time and most indicators of vascular tone in 13-year-old boys than in 12-year-old girls. Thus, the expressed age and gender differences in the rheogram data of the thigh in practically healthy adolescents have been established.

Interpreting other people’s intentions during communication represents a remarkable challenge for children. Although many studies have examined children’s understanding of, for example, sarcasm, less is known about their interpretation. Using realistic audiovisual scenes, we invited 124 children between 8 and 12 years old to watch video clips of young adults using different speaker intentions. After watching each video clip, children answered questions about the characters and their beliefs, and the perceived friendliness of the speaker. Children’s responses reveal age and gender differences in the ability to interpret speaker belief and social intentions, especially for scenarios conveying teasing and prosocial lies. We found that the ability to infer speaker belief of prosocial lies and to interpret social intentions increases with age. Our results suggest that children at the age of 8 years already show adult-like abilities to understand literal statements, whereas the ability to infer specific social intentions, such as teasing and prosocial lies, is still developing between the age of 8 and 12 years. Moreover, girls performed better in classifying prosocial lies and sarcasm as insincere than boys. The outcomes expand our understanding of how children observe speaker intentions and suggest further research into the development of teasing and prosocial lie interpretation.
