In the article the results of research of specifics of digital mapping of spatial and temporal dynamics of the population in a sparsely populated region (on the example of Irkutsk region). The study area is mainly inhomogeneously populated, with a sparse network of settlements (mainly spatially contiguous). The exception is the south territory along the Trans-Siberian Railway. To identify subregional and local characteristics of distribution of the population, the famous dazimetric method of V.P. Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky was used (adjusted for the features of sparsely populated regions). The boundaries of the areal inhabited territory are defined by the method of spots with a buffer radius of 3 km from the borders of populated locality. The overlapping spots, form a solidly populated space, from which depart linear-band elements of settlement, formed on the base of settlements dislocated along the paths of old communications (rivers and roads). The article presents a geoinformation methodology for collecting and processing available statistical data about population movement. In contrast to usual mapping, the calculation of general population dynamics, growth component and subsequent mapping were implemented not in municipal districts, urban and rural settlements, but within localities and settlement areas formed by them, ignoring official boundaries. The mapping allowed to identify patterns and detailing of the dynamics of the population considering the features of real distribution of the population in Irkutsk region. There is a discrepancy between the tendencies of demographic and economic development. The growth of resource complex comes at the expense of the northern periphery of the region, and the general direction of the population system development—growth of demographic potential around the regional center in conditions of depopulation of the periphery. The experience of mapping subregional types of population dynamics in Irkutsk region can be used in mapping similar regions.

Climate change is known to shift species' geographical ranges, phenologies and abundances, but less is known about other population dynamic consequences. Here, we analyse spatio-temporal dynamics of the Glanville fritillary butterfly ( Melitaea cinxia ) in a network of 4000 dry meadows during 21 years. The results demonstrate two strong, related patterns: the amplitude of year-to-year fluctuations in the size of the metapopulation as a whole has increased, though there is no long-term trend in average abundance; and there is a highly significant increase in the level of spatial synchrony in population dynamics. The increased synchrony cannot be explained by increasing within-year spatial correlation in precipitation, the key environmental driver of population change, or in per capita growth rate. On the other hand, the frequency of drought during a critical life-history stage (early larval instars) has increased over the years, which is sufficient to explain the increasing amplitude and the expanding spatial synchrony in metapopulation dynamics. Increased spatial synchrony has the general effect of reducing long-term metapopulation viability even if there is no change in average metapopulation size. This study demonstrates how temporal changes in weather conditions can lead to striking changes in spatio-temporal population dynamics.

In this paper, the authors describe a computational model for the growth of multicellular tissues using a discrete approach based on cellular automata to simulate the tissue growth rates and population dynamics of multiple populations of proliferating and migrating cells. Each population of cells has its own division, motion, collision, and aggregation characteristics. These random dynamic processes can be modeled by appropriately choosing the governing rules of the state transitions of each computational site. This extended model contains a number of system parameters that allow their effects on the volume coverage, the overall tissue growth rate, and some other aspects of cell behavior like the average speed of locomotion to be explored. These discrete systems provide an alternative approach to continuous models for the purpose of describing the temporal dynamics of complex systems.

The issues of the micro-agglomeration organization of the oldest rural settlements of the 18th century in the Irkutsk region, the villages of Ust-Kuda, Urik and Khomutovo, are considered in this paper on the basis of the recreational development, and development of the existing historical and cultural landscapes. The main idea of the research (carried out at the Department of Architecture and Urban Development of Irkutsk National Research Technical University under the guidance of the author), in which the town planning potential of the site was identified and the project proposal followed, as presented in the illustrative part of the article, was transformation of the main axis of the inter-village highway on the Greenway principle: creation of the “Green corridor”, saturated with the objects of the tourist cluster (monuments of architecture and natural attractions, panoramic views, etc.), pedestrian alleys, bike paths and other sports and recreational facilities. This will significantly improve the recreational, cultural and, as a result, investment attractiveness of this territory, both for the local population, and for domestic and foreign tourists.

A series of life-tables for the population of Saisselia oleae (Oliv.) (Homoptera: Coccidae) during five yearly generations (1981-86) were constructed in Corfu. Key-factor analysis carried out on the life-table data indicated that mortality of young stages during summer, caused mainly by the high temperatures, and mortality during spring, caused mainly by predation, determine total population change within each generation. These two mortality factors are the predominant factors of the population dynamics of S. oleae determining population fluctuations. The other mortality factors of the population system of S. oleae were less important. Summer parasites and egg predators, in particular, do not play any significant role on the population dynamics of S. oleae.

The directions of perspective development of the territorial organization of the regional tourist complex of Khmelnytsky region are analyzed. As part of the regional tourist complex of Khmelnytsky region, we have identified point elements of the territorial structure: 2 bifunctional tourist nodes; 10 bifunctional tourist centers; 1 monofunctional tourist center; 17 bifunctional tourist points; 18 monofunctional tourist points. Four clusters are distinguished. The most complex territorial formations in the regional tourist complex of Khmelnytsky region are Khmelnytsky and Kamyanets-Podilsky bifunctional dispersed bushes. The main branch directions of perspective development of tourist activity of Khmelnytsky region are considered. As part of the improvement of the territorial organization of the regional tourist complex, it is necessary to pay attention first of all to the intensification of activities to complete the formation of existing tourist dispersed bushes. It is necessary to promote the establishment of Kamyanets-Podilsky as a tourist «superpoint» of the national level. It is advisable to form on the basis of this city a complex dispersed tourist bush, which should take a leading position in the development of tourism in the Khmelnytsky region. In order to reduce the polarization of the tourist regional complex, to promote the completion of the formation of tourist scattered bushes in other areas of the region. Of particular importance is its development on the basis of the regional center, which has the most favorable transport and geographical position in the region. It is expedient to build a primary network of tourist points and centers in the most promising 13 rural settlements, as well as to create two tourist clusters (Medzhibizh and Sataniv). Of particular importance is the development of a network of agricultural settlements, which will attract existing from the monuments of nature, history and culture. Thus, on the one hand, it is necessary to promote the establishment of Kamyanets-Podilsky as a tourist "superpoint" of the national level. It is advisable to form on the basis of this city a complex dispersed tourist bush, which should take a leading position in the development of tourism in the Khmelnytsky region. On the other hand, in order to reduce the polarization of the tourist regional complex, it is advisable to help complete the formation of tourist scattered bushes in other areas of the region. Of particular importance in this context is its development on the basis of the regional center, which has the most favorable transport and geographical position in the region. Also expedient, in our opinion, is the development of the primary network of tourist points and centers in the most promising 13 rural settlements, as well as the creation of two tourist clusters on the basis of the villages of Medzhibizh and Sataniv. Of particular importance in this context is the development of a network of agro-villages, which will involve in tourism activities of national importance monuments of nature, history, culture, as well as partially relevant monuments of local importance in the Khmelnytsky region. Key words: development, territorial organization, regional tourist complex, Khmelnytsky region.

The article I present here deals with the methodological approach carried out in my PhD in which I analyzed the spatial and temporal dynamics of late rural settlements during five centuries in the southern Pyrenees area, using geographic information systems, spatial databases, and descriptive statistics to establish models of space occupation and try to determine how these vary over the different centuries.
