Commercial HZSM-5 was modified by treating with phosphoric acid and boric acid for the selective methylation of benzene. The study of the performance with respect to the selectivity of the major products, toluene and xylene is the interest of the work. Catalysts were characterized based on BET surface area and XRD, SEM and NH3-TPD analysis to observe the change in properties due to their modification. Although benzene conversion is the highest with HZSM-5 catalyst, but in terms of selectivity, BZSM-5 and PZSM-5 are found to be the suitable catalyst for toluene and xylenes respectively. Xylene selectivity declines for HZSM-5 with the increase in temperature where as the PZSM-5 and BZSM-5 show slightly increasing tendency.

The preparation of biologically active material is one of the most interesting trends in the chemical modification of cellulose. The possibility of obtaining biologically active cellulosic material by sorption of procaine hydrochloride and gentamicin sulphate on CMC was investigated in this paper. The sorption of therapeutics on CMC samples with different degree of substitution was carried out in water solutions of anesthetic and antibiotic, while the desorption was done in 0.95% NaCl solution. The amount of bonded and released therapeutics was determined by UV spe-ctrophotometry. It was found that degree of substitution of car-boxymethylcellulose and concentration of chemotherapeutic water solution have significant influence on the amount of bonded anesthetic and antibiotic. The maximum amount of bonded chemotherapeutic was 72.15 mg of procaine hydrochloride and 165.49 mg of gentamicin sulphate per gram CMC. In both cases the amounts of bonded chemotherape-utics correspond to the concentration of local anesthetic and antibiotic preparation that are used in therapeutic purposes.

AbstractSilicon-based polymers with σconjugated electrons have specific properties; photoreactivity for microlithography and photoconductivity for hole transport materials. To explore the possibility of combining these two properties to develop photoresists with electronic transport capability, photoconductivity of polysilanes is investigated in connection with their photoinduced chemical modification. Increase in photocurrent is observed accompanying photoreaction of poly(dimethylsilane) vacuum deposited films. This increase is found to be greatly enhanced in oxygen atmosphere. Such changes of photocurrent can be explained by charge transfer to electron acceptors from Si dangling bonds postulated to be formed during photoreaction.

This research used the lesser known species as much 5 types rattan, consisted of i.e marau (Calamus Mettanensis Becc), toho (Calamus Spp), galang (Daemonorops Verticilaris Griff Mart), hijau (Calamus Spp) and simpurut (Calamus Panajuga Becc) from Central Kalimantan. Preservative used the mixture of boric acid with the borax and copper-8 by  the concentration of 1,0 %, 2,0 % and 3,0 %. Soaked time during 2 day, 4 day and 6 day by immersion chilled. Result of research indicated that the retention value varied, the greater of concentration condensation and soaking period, the greater average the value of retention while penetration result at all of treatment showed the value 100 %.Keywords:  rattan, preservation, retention, penetration, cold soaking.
