In the era of liberalization and open global market economy, Each and every organization wants to produce and deliver good quality products at a minimum price in order to remain competitive in the markets .To achieve this objective one must pay proper attention to their quality and lean manufacturing practices and aim for zero defects in their organizations. In the present work a new methodology namely LED3 (Lean embedded D3) methodology is applied to address the quality issue in starter motor manufacturing company. The root cause for failure of starter motor was successfully traced out using Ishikawa and five why analysis and a new technique was implemented to overcome the quality issue. After successfully implementing the new method the rejection rate has come down drastically from 7% to less than1% and Cycle time reduced from 1min to 30 sec. Total 3 hours saved per day

Kaizen is a practice of continuous improvements in manufacturing, assembly, quality and engineering. In this paper author have discussed the problems faced by a leading automobile manufacturing organization on quality of interior parts of the automobile like plastics and rubber. During study author used a new technique called “Global Customer Audit” which is basically a vehicle audit from final customer point of view for interior parts of automobiles. During this audit, author has observed various defects and by using different quality control tools like pareto charts, histograms, check sheets and arranged defects according to their intensity or magnitude of occurrence i.e. finding useful one from trivial many. In this paper, the author found the root cause of defects by using different quality control tools. Kaizen is done to remove these defects and continuously improve products and production processes. Kaizen helps in making manufacturing process leaner, simple and fitter. The main purpose of this paper is to discuss the concept of Kaizen, its application in case organization for solving problems raising big quality concerns on a day to day bases.

This technical paper discusses a methodological and systematic way of resolving key challenges during introduction of Chip-On-Lead package specifically wirebonding issues that leads to production dilemma during production ramp-up of products using copper wire in tapeless leadframe. The project was intended to determine the “Red-X” or the major cause of yield detractors that may lead to quality issue during wirebonding process. Problem solving tools were showcased in this paper such as Data Analysis, Cause and Effect, Design-of–Experiment (DOE) and mechanical dimensional analysis which provided substantial impact in determining the real root-cause of the problem. Step-by-step elimination of variables was achieved with the use of statistical engineering tools. Outcome of the project eliminated the occurrence of Non-Stick-On-Pad (NSOP) during wirebonding process without cost involved and just optimizing the available in-house resources.  The improvements also enhanced the quality of the product after final test which on the other hand lower the risk of having potential customer complaint in the future.

Usage and nature of software systems have changed significantly. Due to this complexity of software systems has also grown exponentially. In these ever-changing requirements and environment in which software system is being used, maintaining quality of software system is very challenging and difficult. If user requirements are not met as expected, it’s called defect. To improve quality, it’s critical to understand and analyze these defects. In this study root cause analysis technique is used to analyze defects and their attributes, root cause of defects and corrective actions of defects. A quality model is designed based on defects, root cause of defects and tests. A quality algorithm is designed in this study depending on existing quality model, defects, tests and their attributes. This quality algorithm is executed on a software system to validate quality model. The results obtained are analyzed to understand the quality of the software system and how it’s different than existing quality model.

Fuel Injection Pump (FIP) is one of the important component of any engine and any issue related to FIP will directly affect the engine. One such issue is excess vibration at full load in multi-cylinder fuel injection pump. Many problem-solving techniques are used in manufacturing industries to reduce rejection rate caused in production line and to improve quality of a product. This study mainly focuses on shainin methodology integrated with six sigma DMAIC, in which various steps were followed to detect and validate the root cause for causing excess vibration of control rod in A-type fuel injection pump.

The article describes experience of creating and implementing information-managing educational environment at university. The model of creating information-managing educational environment of university with elements of artificial intelligence and indicative management is described. This environment contributes to improve quality of training and management of educational processes and resources. The stages of creating and implementing information-managing educational environment are considered systemically, as continuous process focused on a consumer. The inhibitory and facilitating conditions for introduction of the model at university are described. To provide subject-oriented approach to the use of information resources of environment, recommended clusters of information subsystems for each category of users are described.Practically implemented scientific and methodological recommendations for subjects of educational process to overcome resistance to innovations introduced in educational organizations are proposed.Features of adaptation of the developed information-managing educational environment for schools are presented.
