The health of a rotating electric machine can be evaluated by monitoring electrical and mechanical parameters. As more information is available, it easier can become the diagnosis of the machine operational condition. We built a laboratory test bench to study rotor unbalance issues according to ISO standards. Using the electric stator current harmonic analysis, this paper presents a comparison study among Support-Vector Machines, Decision Tree classifies, and One-vs-One strategy to identify rotor unbalance kind and severity problem – a nonlinear multiclass task. Moreover, we propose a methodology to update the classifier for dealing better with changes produced by environmental variations and natural machinery usage. The adaptative update means to update the training data set with an amount of recent data, saving the entire original historical data. It is relevant for engineering maintenance. Our results show that the current signature analysis is appropriate to identify the type and severity of the rotor unbalance problem. Moreover, we show that machine learning techniques can be effective for an industrial application.

Abstract In this article, an innovative approach to perform the sentiment analysis (SA) has been presented. The proposed system handles the issues of Romanized or abbreviated text and spelling variations in the text to perform the sentiment analysis. The training data set of 3,000 movie reviews and tweets has been manually labeled by native speakers of Hindi in three classes, i.e. positive, negative, and neutral. The system uses WEKA (Waikato Environment for Knowledge Analysis) tool to convert these string data into numerical matrices and applies three machine learning techniques, i.e. Naive Bayes (NB), J48, and support vector machine (SVM). The proposed system has been tested on 100 movie reviews and tweets, and it has been observed that SVM has performed best in comparison to other classifiers, and it has an accuracy of 68% for movie reviews and 82% in case of tweets. The results of the proposed system are very promising and can be used in emerging applications like SA of product reviews and social media analysis. Additionally, the proposed system can be used in other cultural/social benefits like predicting/fighting human riots.

The prediction of price for a vehicle has been more popular in research area, and it needs predominant effort and information about the experts of this particular field. The number of different attributes is measured and also it has been considerable to predict the result in more reliable and accurate. To find the price of used vehicles a well defined model has been developed with the help of three machine learning techniques such as Artificial Neural Network, Support Vector Machine and Random Forest. These techniques were used not on the individual items but for the whole group of data items. This data group has been taken from some web portal and that same has been used for the prediction. The data must be collected using web scraper that was written in PHP programming language. Distinct machine learning algorithms of varying performances had been compared to get the best result of the given data set. The final prediction model was integrated into Java application

Abstract This paper provides an assessment of three different machine learning techniques for accurately reproducing a distributed temperature prediction of a high-pressure turbine airfoil. A three-dimensional Finite Element Analysis thermal model of a cooled turbine airfoil was solved repeatedly (200 instances) for various operating point settings of the corresponding gas turbine engine. The response surface created by the repeated solutions was fed into three machine learning algorithms and surrogate model representations of the FEA model’s response were generated. The machine learning algorithms investigated were a Gaussian Process, a Boosted Decision Tree, and an Artificial Neural Network. Additionally, a simple Linear Regression surrogate model was created for comparative purposes. The Artificial Neural Network model proved to be the most successful at reproducing the FEA model over the range of operating points. The mean and standard deviation differences between the FEA and the Neural Network models were 15% and 14% of a desired accuracy threshold, respectively. The Digital Thread for Design (DT4D) was used to expedite all model execution and machine learning training. A description of DT4D is also provided.

Abstract There is growing importance in the offshore floating production sector to develop reliable and robust means of continuously monitoring the integrity of mooring systems for FPSOs and FPUs, particularly in light of the upcoming introduction of API-RP-2MIM. Here, the limitations of the current range of monitoring techniques are discussed, including well established technologies such as load cells, sonar, or visual inspection, within the context of the growing mainstream acceptance of data science and machine learning. Due to the large fleet of floating production platforms currently in service, there is a need for a readily deployable solution that can be retrofitted to existing platforms to passively monitor the performance of floating assets on their moorings, for which machine learning based systems have particular advantages. An earlier investigation conducted in 2016 on a shallow water, single point moored FPSO employed host facility data from in-service field measurements before and after a single mooring line failure event. This paper presents how the same machine learning techniques were applied to a deep water, semi taut, spread moored system where there was no host facility data available, therefore requiring a calibrated hydrodynamic numerical model to be used as the basis for the training data set. The machine learning techniques applied to both real and synthetically generated data were successful in replicating the response of the original system, even with the latter subjected to different variations of artificial noise. Furthermore, utilizing a probability-based approach, it was demonstrated that replicating the response of the underlying system was a powerful technique for predicting changes in the mooring system.

To review the use of artificial intelligence in business simulation analysis. A review of the literature, however, shows little systematic reviews on the application of machine learning techniques to business simulation, yet systematic reviews have gained prominence in the academic jargon. Methodology: Thus, this study does reviews systematically a total of 123 shortlisted articles that focus on the machine learning techniques in the business simulation process. Findings: There are immense algorithms of machine learning which can be used in a business simulation, although this study was able to review ten machine learning algorithms in the business simulation process. As a whole, the machine learning algorithms have been deployed to yield lead-time production in the industry. In inventory and storage, machine learning has been applied to improve efficiency in identifying inventory patterns that would have never been revealed and thus saves on costs. Future direction also discussed.

Machine learning can be defined as the ability of a computer to learn and solve a problem without being explicitly coded. The efficiency of the program increases with experience through the task specified. In traditional programming, the program and the input are specified to get the output, but in the case of machine learning, the targets and predictors are provided to the algorithm make the process trained. This chapter focuses on various machine learning techniques and their performance with commonly used datasets. A supervised learning algorithm consists of a target variable that is to be predicted from a given set of predictors. Using these established targets is a function that plots targets to a given set of predictors. The training process allows the system to train the unknown data and continues until the model achieves a desired level of accuracy on the training data. The supervised methods can be usually categorized as classification and regression. This chapter discourses some of the popular supervised machine learning algorithms and their performances using quotidian datasets. This chapter also discusses some of the non-linear regression techniques and some insights on deep learning with respect to object recognition.

Machine learning is an approach of artificial intelligence (AI) where the machine can automatically learn and improve its performance on experience. It is not explicitly programmed; the data is fed into the generic algorithm and it builds logic based on the data provided. Traditional algorithms have to define new rules or massive rules when the pattern varies or the number of patterns increases, which reduces the accuracy or efficiency of the algorithms. But the machine learning algorithms learn new input patterns capable of handling complex situations while maintaining accuracy and efficiency. Due to its effectual benefits, machine learning algorithms are used in various domains like healthcare, industries, travel, game development, social media services, robotics, and surveillance and information security. In this chapter, the application of machine learning technique in healthcare is discussed in detail.
