Cooperative integrated reading and composition (CIRC) technique gives the opportunities for the students to increase language skills, especially applicability of reading activities and composition writing techniques. The absence of a guideline of teaching writing using certain technique results a less effective process of teaching writing. Thus, this research and development study was aimed to investigate the quality of the existing guidelines of writing in junior high school and the development of the practical guidelines of teaching writing in SMPN of Karanganyar Central Java using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition. This research was conducted through two stages; exploration stage and product development stage. The finding of the exploration stage was obtained through several techniques like interview, observation, document analysis and questionnaire distribution which revealed that there was no certain writing guideline used to teach. The teachers used textbook, syllabus and lesson plan as the guidance of teaching writing. Thus, the writing guideline should be developed by considering the need of the teacher and the students. The guideline prototype was developed by considering some aspects. It contained theoretical theories of writing, CIRC and teaching writing to Junior High School and the implementation of teaching writing of descriptive, recount, and narrative texts. Then, it had been validated by the expert and tried out thrice in one class of eighth graders of SMPN in Karanganyar Central Java. Through focus group discussion, the guideline prototype was changed and revised to be the final draft of writing guideline. Therefore, through the stages, it could be concluded that the practical guideline was feasible to be used by the teachers to teach writing to junior high school students.

The research objectives aimed by this research are: (1) find out about Junior High School students need for environment-based supplementary reading materials; and 2) develop environment-based supplementary reading materials that are suitable for the students. This study is a research and development. The subjects involved in this research and development are eight grade students of a junior high school. The procedures in this research follow the modified research and development steps proposed by Borg & Gall into four development procedures. The steps of the modified research procedures were the exploration stage that included need analysis; the prototype development stage included the stages of planning and developing the format/draft; revision stage was completed by performing an expert judgement; and finalization stage that produced a final product. This supplementary reading is developed into 3 units. Each unit consists of list of new vocabularies, comic, main text and exercises. The developed texts are recount, descriptive and narrative. These texts convey how the relation between human and environment should be. The last part of each unit is by doing exercises that have a purpose as a confirmation.

This study aims to produce biotechnopreneurship-based science learning materials that are valid, practical, and effectiveto facilitate junior high school students’ life skills. This research is development research using a 4D development model that produces Biotechnopreneurship-based science learning materials equipped with the syllabus, lesson plan, student worksheets, life skills tests. Learning materials were tested on 35 junior high school students with the one-group pretest-posttest design. Data analysis is descriptive qualitative with the results: (a) validation of learning materials with valid categories (score 3-4); (b) readability of learning materials with good categories (c) implementation of learning in good categories (score 3.7); (d) student responses were positive; (e) students’life skills generally increase (N-gain 0.71 with high category). The indicator of Life Skills that experiences the most significant increase between pre test and post test is the aspect of making a decision. Indicators of information gathering are indicators that have a low increase after learning. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the biotechnopreneurship-based science learning materials are valid, practical, and effective to facilitate junior high school students’ life skills.

In accordance with this, the objectives of this research are: 1) to investigate the need of junior high school students for environment-based supplementary reading materials; and 2) to develop environment-based supplementary reading materials suitable for these students. The subjects of this research and development were eighth grade students of a junior high school. The procedure utilized is a modified version of the research and development steps proposed by Borg & Gall and included four development procedures. The stages of this modified procedure were: 1) the exploration stage, including need analysis; 2) the prototype development stage, including planning and developing the format/draft; 3) the revision stage, using expert evaluation; and 4) the finalization stage. The resulting supplementary reading material has been developed into 3 units, with the texts being recount, descriptive, and narrative. Each unit consists of a list of new vocabulary, a comic, a main text, and exercises. The exercises at the end of each unit have the purpose of confirmation. The texts aim to convey an ideal relationship between humans and environment.

The purpose of this study was to identify the folklores carrying character values as teaching materials in English acquisition in Indonesia. This exploratory study was conducted in Central Java and Yogyakarta provinces, Indonesia by inviting 139 participants of Junior high school teachers, students, and experts. The data was collected through interview, documentation and observation, and analyzed descriptively using the  Miles, Huberman, & Saldaña' scheme, namely data collection, data condensation, data presentation and conclusion (2014). The result obtained 208 folklores categorized as fairytale, legend, and myth. By applying the Processability Theory (Pienemann, 2005), the researchers proposed some ideas in using the folklores which carry character values for supporting the English acquisition among junior high school students in Indonesia. Through an English integrated teaching and learning process, the students not only learnt the moral values from the folklores but also studied and acquired English as their foreign language. The students, who have been familiar with folklores from their hometown, possessed confidence in understanding the main idea of the story though it was written or told in English. They mostly learnt as well as acquired phrasal and lexical morphology of English.
