In 2000, the publishing house "Spetslit" published the monograph by of A.I. Nevorotin "Matrix phraseological collection: a manual for writing a scientific article in English". Despite the relatively large circulation (2000 copies), to present time date, this work has disappeared from sale and has not been reprinted. Thereby fore, it became necessary to publish the main provisions of the manuscript again. Moreover, in cut his case, a number of author's comments, notes and updates will be added in the present edition made. The Matrix phraseological collection is a kind of catalog of text samples. The samples were from articles selected from the leading English-language scientific journals and were systematized in such awaythatwhen writing an ar- ticle in English, Russian researchers are able easy to find examples suitable for his/her own work. Furthermore, the selected samples can be transformed accordingly saving the semantic and syntactic relations between the elements and, finally, be inserted into the text.

While learning English language, ESL students can face some difficulties to make cleft sentences which are going to be discussed in this scientific article. Researchers, who have searched and made easy way to acquire knowledge of this type of sentences, invited this article, which is much more clearly, to ESL students. Although lots of researchers worked on this topic, learners are able to get interesting facts, easy learning style, and vital examples which are explained in an easy and simple way. Thus, this article consistently keeps attention of all readers and not make them confuse as well.

This book explores the curious relationship between Albatross Press—a British-funded publisher of English-language books with Jewish ties—and the Third Reich of Adolf Hitler. Albatross began printing its books in Germany in May 1932, barely a year before Hitler came to power. It made its name not in the trade of mild classics but in edgy, modern British and American books. From its titles to its packaging, Albatross projected a cosmopolitan ethos at odds with German nationalism. This book tells the story of survival against the odds, of what happened when a resolutely cosmopolitan, multinational publishing house became entwined with the most destructively nationalistic culture of modern times. It asks how Albatross was allowed to print and sell its books within the nationalistic climate of Nazi Germany, became the largest purveyor of English-language paperbacks in 1930s Europe and then vanished with so little trace.

The necessity to ensure compliance of scientific articles in Russian scientific journals with international standards for their inclusion in scientometric databases is substantiated. It is shown that the design of the journal, placement and presentation of the necessary elements of articles, completeness of English-language data and other characteristics are determined by the editorial policy and should reflect compliance with the requirements of international databases. The possibility of correct design of articles, interpretation of their elements from the standpoint of international scientometric databases is shown.

The article considers the basic principles of creating a unified template for a scientific journal in accordance with current regulations and rules for creating original layouts, as well as taking into account the experience of specialists of the Publishing House "Akademperiodyka" of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The list of the basic regulatory documents is given, other useful links are given. The example of a typical unified template shows what the cover and title page of a scientific journal should look like, as well as the imposition page of an article of a scientific professional publication, describes in detail the necessary structural elements of a scientific article and describes their design. The choice of the solutions presented in the unified template is briefly substantiated. The most common mistakes present in domestic scientific professional journals are described. Examples from real magazines illustrate the possible variety of design within a unified template.

This chapter explores the syntax and semantics of functional and anaphoric control, constructions in which either syntactic or lexical constraints require coreference between an argument of the matrix clause (the controller) and an argument of a subordinate or modifying adjunct clause (the controllee). Such cases include the classes of “raising” verbs (Section 15.2) and “equi” verbs (Section 15.4). Crosslinguistically, descriptions of such constructions involve reference to functional syntactic relations such as subject and object; therefore, the syntactic discussion in this chapter is primarily centered around the f-structures of functional and anaphoric control constructions. A detailed semantic analyses of functional and anaphoric control constructions is also presented, considering arbitrary, obligatory, and quasi-obligatory (partial) control relations, and a discussion of the syntax and semantics of control in adjuncts (Section 15.8).

Throughout history, coded messages have been used for various reasons. Today's students are fascinated by the secretive nature of these codes, and this fascination can lead them to explore the mathematics of cryptography. The simplest codes are called substitution ciphers. In these codes, each letter is replaced by another number or letter in the alphabet. These codes are easy to crack, or decode, because of the relative frequency of letters in messages. For example, e is the most often used letter in the English language; therefore, the substituted value for e is relatively easy to determine. One way to make substitution codes more difficult to crack is to group letters and then encode the groups of letters. A particular application of this strategy, one that combines matrix multiplication and modular arithmetic, is known as the Hill cipher (Anton and Rorres 1987). This article explains coding and decoding messages using Hill ciphers. These ciphers are an interesting example of an application of matrices called for in NCTM's Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics (NCTM 1989) for grades 9-12. A graphing calculator will facilitate the matrix and modular arithmetic used in the coding and decoding procedures.
