Statement of the problem. The article is devoted to a detailed analysis of the phraseological units of the English language of various thematic groups and the features of their registration in the English-English and English-Russian dictionaries and reference books. Features that distinguish phraseological units from free phrases are studied. More than that, the question of belonging proverbs to phraseological stock is studied. Then phraseological units selected by the continuous sampling method are classified according to different grounds, and a detailed analysis of the features of their reflection in the analyzed sources is carried out. Results. Phraseological units are classified into some categories according to the following criteria: function in communication, determined by their structural and semantic features and thematic division. Phraseological units-euphemisms related to several thematic groups, including death, curse words and pregnancy are studied. The characteristic features of microstructure organization of each individual source are described. Conclusion. The analysis of English phraseological units registration showed that this lexis is reflected in dictionaries in a proper way. Theoretical literature analysis shows justification of proverbs inclusion into phraseological stock as they are a part of national cultural heritage and are reproduced in speech in the basic form. Further, the author comes to a conclusion that dictionary type and addressee of the reference book determine features of microstructure organization and their components (definition, translation equivalent, illustrative example, grammar, stylistic, regional and etymological labels, graphic illustration).

OBJECTIVE: To review the pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, clinical efficacy, and toxicity of ticlopidine. Comparisons with other antiplatelet agents are presented, with an emphasis on efficacy, and a recommendation is provided regarding ticlopidine's place in therapy. DATA SOURCES: A MEDLINE literature retrieval of English-language journal articles from 1987 to January 1993 and references identified from bibliographies of review articles and clinical trials. STUDY SELECTION: Randomized, blind, controlled studies of ticlopidine and other antiplatelet agents were preferentially selected. DATA EXTRACTION: Clinical trials were reviewed in terms of study design, efficacy results, and toxicity. DATA SYNTHESIS: Ticlopidine is a new antiplatelet agent with a distinct mechanism of action. In the largest trial of the drug for the prevention of stroke, it was found to be more effective than aspirin in reducing the risk of stroke or death. Clinical trials have also shown ticlopidine to decrease the rate of vascular death and myocardial infarction in patients with unstable angina, and to maintain venous graft patency after coronary artery bypass grafting. The use of ticlopidine in diabetic microangiopathy and peripheral vascular disease appears promising, but further studies are needed. Adverse reactions most commonly reported with ticlopidine are gastrointestinal complaints; the most severe reaction is transient neutropenia, which is seen in approximately 2.3 percent of patients and is severe in nearly 1 percent. CONCLUSIONS: Ticlopidine is a reasonable alternative for use in preventing stroke among patients unable to take aspirin or those who do not benefit from aspirin therapy. Its use as first-line therapy is limited by its high cost and the occurrence of hematologic adverse effects.

Ornithine transcarbamylase (OTC) deficiency is an X-linked recessive disorder that leads to hyperammonemia and liver damage. Hepatocellular adenoma in OTC deficiency patients has not been previously described. Here we report the first such case to be described in the English language scientific literature.

In the 17th century, as contacts between citizens of England, which was gaining increasing importance in Europe, and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (GDL) intensified, the phenomenon of the image of Lithuania in English and Scottish societies, as well as the level of their knowledge about the GDL, became more important. The issue of mentioning Lithuania in West European historical sources and the related issue of the image of Lithuania in the region in the 16th–17th centuries has already been analysed in Lithuania, albeit not thoroughly enough. However, the question of the image of Lithuania in English publications in the 17th–18th centuries still requires more detailed analysis. This article discusses Lithuania-related facts that could have been familiar not only to the narrow circle of people that were in close contact with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, but also to wider well-read English and Scottish society. The few educated members of English society who had an interest in learning more about Lithuania had access to publications in various languages published in different countries. However, this article dwells almost exclusively on publications in the English language dating from the 17th century that facilitated the rendering of knowledge and opinions about Lithuania to a much wider circle of people who read in the English language.

The necessity to ensure compliance of scientific articles in Russian scientific journals with international standards for their inclusion in scientometric databases is substantiated. It is shown that the design of the journal, placement and presentation of the necessary elements of articles, completeness of English-language data and other characteristics are determined by the editorial policy and should reflect compliance with the requirements of international databases. The possibility of correct design of articles, interpretation of their elements from the standpoint of international scientometric databases is shown.
