Today, in light of the tremendous technological development, media has become a requirement of modern life, as it is considered a means of learning about other sciences and cultures. For this, it has become necessary to educate young people in secondary school as an intermediate stage, to study media in all its branches, by including it within the teaching curricula, provided that the scientific components, specialized cadres and necessary equipment are available and to proceed with all that, according to an accurate and organized approach, especially since major countries such as Britain And an Arab like Saudi Arabia has preceded us, albeit in a limited way. This expected step deters young people from media illiteracy, broadens their perceptions at this school stage, helps them to creativity, visualization, extrapolation, and criticism, as well as pushes them to understand what is going on around them in terms of events and facts in various fields, and helps them to shorten their scientific career, by reaching the best The paths of comprehension, understanding, and creativity.

Współczesny sposób korzystania z mediów zmienił strukturę i funkcje przestrzenną miejsc odbioru. Zagregowane i opracowane wyniki pozwoliły uprawdopodobnić postawione w procesie konceptualizacji badań hipotezy i stanowią przyczynek do dalszych badań zjawiska. Methods, Places and Rituals Accompanying the Perception of the Content of Traditional Television and WebTV among High School Students Residing in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship The modern way of using the media has changed the spatial structure and functions of the places of media reception. The aim of this article is to indicate the reception methods, the places of reception and the description of the rituals that accompany young people today when using the media. The article presents the results of the research conducted among secondary school students from Podkarpackie Voivodeship (in the South of Poland) in 2018. The study used a two-stage method of gathering the research material: 1) letters to directors of 14 randomly selected educational institutions were followed by (2) a request to fill in the questionnaire sent to students, using an open account on Facebook. The use of targeted search on Facebook made it possible to reach students who were actually members of the school’s community with the survey, the results of which made it possible to substantiate the hypotheses put forward in the process of conceptualization of research and constitute a contribution to further research on the phenomenon of rituals accompanying the perception of media content.

Media representation of heterosexual alternatives is particularly salient for young people negotiating sexuality, more so for those with limited access to other cultural resources to inform their homosexual understandings. With the centrality of media as resource in mind, we present in this article findings from our focus group research with 25 high school students aged 16—18 in which we invited them to discuss representations of homosexuality in the media. Our analyses, which focus here on lesbian sexuality, used a thematic discursive approach. We found constructions of lesbianism as `heteroflexible', `hot' and experimental to be common patterns in participants' talk, whereas notions of lesbian desire were largely silenced. While most of the talk drew on heteronormativity, we found small pockets of its deconstruction in mobilization of alternative discourses and rejection of sexual categories.

We investigated effects of the media’s portrayal of boys as “scholastic failures” on secondary school students. The negative portrayal induced stereotype threat (boys underperformed in reading), stereotype reactance (boys displayed stronger learning goals towards mathematics but not reading), and stereotype lift (girls performed better in reading but not in mathematics). Apparently, boys were motivated to disconfirm their group’s negative depiction, however, while they could successfully apply compensatory strategies when describing their learning goals, this motivation did not enable them to perform better. Overall the media portrayal thus contributes to the maintenance of gender stereotypes, by impairing boys’ and strengthening girls’ performance in female connoted domains and by prompting boys to align their learning goals to the gender connotation of the domain.

Mathematical reasoning uses a logical mindset in analyzing a problem that will eventually be marked by concluding activity on the problem. Someone who has good reason, will certainly be careful in acting and deciding something. The material content on the calculus is the material that exists at the secondary school level which will become the field of teaching the prospective master of math teacher bachelor. The reasoning ability studied influences student learning in the future as it applies to advanced courses, for example in the ability of proof will always be used in the course of differential equations, algebraic structure, vector analysis, real analysis, etc. While as a teacher candidate who will teach at the secondary school level, then this reasoning ability becomes one of the achievements of mathematics learning for high school students, therefore teachers who teach it must have good reasoning ability. Error analysis is very important to evaluate and reflect on the problem structure as well as on the treatment in learning in order to improve the reasoning ability.

Most teenagers are chronically sleep deprived. One strategy proposed to lengthen adolescent sleep is to delay secondary school start times. This would allow students to wake up later without shifting their bedtime, which is biologically determined by the circadian clock, resulting in a net increase in sleep. So far, there is no objective quantitative data showing that a single intervention such as delaying the school start time significantly increases daily sleep. The Seattle School District delayed the secondary school start time by nearly an hour. We carried out a pre-/post-research study and show that there was an increase in the daily median sleep duration of 34 min, associated with a 4.5% increase in the median grades of the students and an improvement in attendance.

In the Australian education system, there are substantial class inequalities in educational outcomes and transitions. These inequalities persist despite increased choice and individual opportunity for young people. This article explores high school students’ experiences of class in a social context they largely believe to be a meritocracy. Specifically, it asks: how does class shape young people’s thinking and decision-making about their post-school futures? I use Bourdieu’s ‘habitus’ as a frame to understand the role of class in young people’s lives, stressing its generative and heterogeneous aspects. Drawing on qualitative-led mixed methods research, this article argues that young people have internalised the ‘doxa’ of meritocracy, agency and ambition, conceiving of themselves as individual agents in this context. However, risk and security, opportunities and constraints, are not distributed equally in a class-stratified society. Young people from working-class backgrounds more commonly imagine insecure, uncertain futures.

Abstract As changes in coastal and marine environments are expected to negatively affect Brazilian ecosystems, the importance of Marine Environmental Education (MEE) comes to the fore. However, so far only 32 contributions related to this issue have been published in Brazil. The MEE workgroup of ReBentos aims at promoting EE and the communication of marine ecological research to the scholastic public as a whole, as well as to groups which exert an influence on general perception, such as the media, politicians, and scientists. This paper presents an overview of the initiatives of MEE in Brazil, with emphasis on the ReBentos projects and guidelines. The conceptual background of action is based on the Rio'92 Treaty on Environmental Education, thereby implying an MEE with Transdisciplinar, emancipatory and reflexive characteristics, directed to changes in values, principles and attitudes. During the period 2011 to 2015, 10 projects were developed from Alagoas to Santa Catarina States, involving the development, implementation and testing through scientific research of 16 MEE activity-models. The didactic material subsequently produced comprised three books and 21 book-chapters. A public of around 6,500 Conservation Unit visitors, 250 public school teachers and 800 high school students have been impacted to date. To act as monitors and multipliers, 250 undergraduate students and professionals were trained. Research project evaluation generated the publication of nine papers. As a further step, the need for protocol elaboration for each model is placed in evidence, in order to direct and facilitate future initiatives.
