The assemblages of herpetobion spiders from four habitats: two seven-year-old burns, spruce-birch and fir-spruce forests, were examined in the Visimskiy Reserve (Sverdlovsk Region) during May-September 2017 using pitfall-traps. The structure of the spiders population of burns significantly differs from that of forests in species composition, total occurrence rate (ind./100 trap-days), seasonal dynamics and composi-tion of the dominant species. Differences in the structure of the population are most pronounced in the summer. In summer spider assemblages of burns, the most abundant are Agyneta allosubtilis, Alopecosa pulverulenta, P. fulvipes, P. lugubris, P. riparia and Piratula hygrophila, in forests - Allomengea scopigera and Haplodrassus soerenseni.

The results of a comprehensive analysis of the microelement composition of soils — B, Co, Cu, Mn, Mo, Ni, Zn and plants — Ag, Co, Cu, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Zn (oak (Quercus robur L.), pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) perennial grasses — Kupena (Polygonatum multiflorum (L.) All.), wheatgrass (Elymus repens (L.) Gould)) of natural reserve belonging to different physical and geographical zones — Polessky reserve (mixed forest zone), Roztochya reserve (broad-leaved forest zone), Kanevsky reserve (forest-steppe zone), the reserve «Askania Nova» (steppe zone), the Chernogorsk massif of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve (KBR, Ukrainian Carpathians), which are proposed to be considered as background. It was found that in the soils of mixed and broad-leaved forests and the Chernogorsk massif KBR with an increase in the content of gross forms of Co, Cu, Ni, Zn, the content of their mobile forms increases, this dependence is inverse in the soils of the steppe zone, which is associated with a decrease in soil acidity and mobility microelements A positive correlation was revealed between the humus content in soils and Zn, Co (gross and mobile forms) and negative — B, Mo in the soils of all reserve zones. It was found that the greatest biogeochemical activity is characteristic of plants in the zone of deciduous forests — oak leaves (Quercus robur L.) and pine needles (Pinus sylvestris L.).

 Study on centipedes was conducted in Muong Thai commune, Ta Xua Natural Reserve, Son La in May and November 2017. Samples were collected in four typical habitats: natural forests, bamboo mixed forests, bamboo forests and agro-residental areas. As a result, a total of 17 species and subspecies in two orders (Scolopendromorpha and Scutigeromorpha) was recorded in that region. Of which, the order Scolopendromorpha has 15 recorded species and subspecies belonging to 7 genera, 3 families (Cryptopidae, Scolopendridae, Scolopocryptopidae). The other order, Scutigeromorpha, has only one species in one family (Scutigeridae). The study results also contributed new records of 13 species in 7 genera to the centipede fauna of the northwestern part of Vietnam, and 1 genus, Thereuonema, to the Vietnamese fauna.Among four habitats, natural and bamboo forests have highest similarity on species composition, but agro-residental area and bamboo forest have lowest value on species composition. The diversity index (H’) is highest in bamboo forests (2,98), decreases in mixed forest (2,31), natural forest (1,67) and agro-residental area (0,74). In contrast, centipede density is highest in natural forest (0,60 ind./m2), reduces in bamboo forest (0,47 ind./m2) and mixed forest (0,20 ind./m2).

The conservation of species diversity and improvement of forest structure are essential roles of the Natural Reserve Policy and the Natural Forest Protection Program (NFPP) in China. However, the long-term effects of NFPP are still not well-defined, and a natural reserve (Liangshui) and surrounding region were surveyed as a proxy of NFPP for approaching the protection effects. Our results showed that long-term conservation significantly altered the dominant species in the herb layer (80% of species), followed by shrub (58%) and tree layers (50%); there was a 1.6-8.0-fold increase in abundance in Corylus shrubs, Acer trees and Carex grass, but a 1.3–10.0-fold abundance decrease in larch trees, Athyrium herbs and Lonicera shrubs. In contrast, tree species diversity and distribution evenness increased by 31% and 23.4% in the reserve, respectively. Forest protection in the reserve also led to the forest structural alteration with the observation of larger-sized trees and shorter herbs, but relatively sparse forests (smaller tree density). Structural equation modeling manifested that the reserve directly altered forest structure, at a coefficient of 0.854, nearly two-fold higher than its impact on diversity (0.459) and dominant species (−0.445). The most affected parameters were plant size (trees and herbs) and tree density related to forest structure, tree diversity, herb richness and evenness for diversity traits, and Oxalidaceae and Rosaceae for dominant species. This study provides basic data that can be used to evaluate the impact of the nature reserve in NE China, and these findings can be used to guide the implementation of NFPP in the long-term in the future.

This paper proposes a method to classify individual tree species groups based on individual tree segmentation and crown-level spectrum extraction (“crown-based ITC” for abbr.) in a natural mixed forest of Northeast China, and compares with the pixel-based classification and segment summarization results (“pixel-based ITC” for abbr.). Tree species is a basic factor in forest management, and it is traditionally identified by field survey. This paper aims to explore the potential of individual tree classification in a natural, needle-leaved and broadleaved mixed forest. First, individual trees were isolated, and the spectra of individual trees were then extracted. The support vector machine (SVM) and spectrum angle mapper (SAM) classifiers were applied to classify the trees species. The pixel-based classification results from hyperspectral data and LiDAR derived individual tree isolation were compared. The results showed that the crown-based ITC classified broadleaved trees better than pixel-based ITC, while the classes distribution of the crown-based ITC was closer to the survey data. This indicated that crown-based ITC performed better than pixel-based ITC. Crown-based ITC efficiently identified the classes of the dominant and sub-dominant species. Regardless of whether SVM or SAM was used, the identification consistency relative to the field observations for the class of the dominant species was greater than 90%. In contrast, the consistencies of the classes of the sub-dominant species were approximately 60%, and the overall consistency of both the SVM and SAM was greater than 70%.

The studies were mostly concentrated in Nine forest ranges of the WLS including the core areas. The soil of this region mostly is dry, red and with iron and silica content. Though the soil mites are prevalent in moist humid condition, we got a diversed population of 20 different species under 14 genera which is less than average probably due to the soil condition. Protoribates magnus is the dominant species in this study. The species with larger ranges were Scheloribates curvialatus.

Floodplain valley of the Dnieper river midstream is a unique natural complex, having a great bìogeographical, ecological, environmental, historical and recreational values. In 1990, the Natural reserve «Dniprovsko-Orilsky» was established within the area. The Natural reserve «Dniprovsko-Orilsky» is environmentally protected site within the Dnipropetrovsk region, Dnipropetrovsk oblast, Ukraine. This reserve occupies part of the Dnieper river valley and marshy and reedy banks of Protovch river (existing bed of Oril river). It was created by Regulation of the Council of Ministers of the USSR of 15 September 1990, No. 262, based on common zoological and ornitological Nature reserves «Taromskì plavni» and «Obukhovskie zaplavy». On the territory of the Natural reserve «Dniprovsko-Orilsky», they were registered 32 Lepidoptera species listed in the List of Threatened Species at different categories (5 species in IUCN Red List ; 18 in Red Data Book of Ukraine; 7 in European Red List of plants and animals endangered on a global scale; 31 in Red Book of Dnipropetrovsk oblast). The main scientific materials were author’s collections from area of research and materials of entomological funds, Department of Zoology and Ecology, Oles Honchar Dnipropetrovsk National University (mostly Memorial Collection of V. O. Barsov). Field surveys covered all the ecosystems basic on size and degree of protection. The author’s researches have conducted over the past decade during annual expeditions to the Reserve. Taxonomic structure of the complex is quite diverse, and represented by all the major families of higher millers and rhopalocera, having protectedstatus. In relation to taxonomy, this complex formed by representatives of five superfamilies (Zyganoidea, Noctuoidea, Bombycoidea, Hesperioidea, Papilionoidea) from 11 families (Zygaenidae, Saturniidae, Sphingidae, Noctuidae Arctiidae Hesperiidae, Papilionidae, Pieridae, Nymphalidae, Satyridae, Lycaenidae). High taxonomic diversity can be explained by unique geographical location of the reserve in azonal conditions of the Dnieper river valley. Such location allows to enter different zoogeographic Lepidoptera groups on the reserve territory. Zoogeographic analysis of species protected within the reserve territory selected 7 basic groups. It was found that most of the globally rare species have Mediterranean origin (39 %); species of Palearctic origin are in second place (22 %); Western Palearctic and Ponto-Kazakh types of areas are same of number of species, and come third (11 %); and others come 17 % (European, Euro-Siberian, and Holarctic). This fauna component is specific due to presence of so-called «northern» species that make up 40 % (representatives of Palearctic, Western Palearctic, Euro-Siberian, European and Holarctic groups). Their existence within the reserve territory is only possible due to development of boreal valley ecosystems. High taxonomic diversity can be explained by unique geographical location of the reserve in azonal conditions of the Dnieper river valley.
