The author of this article examines the ways in which the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage considers the protection of aboriginal languages and provides a case study of the challenges of the preservation of the Cree language in Canada. For Indigenous people, in Canada as elsewhere, questions arise about who speaks for whom; many of their constituents may not identify with the major political organizations that represent their interests to governments and are recognized by government agencies; and other structural and logistical barriers also arise. The paper takes a look at the richness of Aboriginal history around Hudson Bay as held in language and stories, and then discusses the many challenges that a Hudson Bay Cree storyteller, Louis Bird, and his collaborators faced in pursuing an oral history project funded by a Canadian governmental agency with its own parameters and priorities.

This chapter explores the criminal justice institutions. In practice, the criminal justice system contains five distinct institutions that are responsible for delivering justice: the police, the Crown Prosecution Service (known as the CPS), the courts, probation providers, and prisons. Although they are all part of one overall system, each has different aims, roles, and challenges. Theoretically, the fact that these bodies are all accountable to the separation of powers concept should bring some unity in that it gives Parliament, the independent judiciary, and central government opportunities to shape the system to align with their version of justice. The government can exert considerable influence through the work of the Ministry of Justice or MoJ. The MoJ is currently the most important governmental agency in the criminal justice system, but the larger and more powerful Home Office is also involved to an extent, mainly with the police.

This chapter describes how an institution of higher education, Bowling Green State University (BGSU), partnered with the Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence (OCALI), a quasi-governmental agency, to meet the training needs of the local, state, national, and international community by providing an online autism spectrum disorders (ASD) certificate program. This curriculum incorporates and builds on OCALI's numerous on-line learning modules specifically focused on ASD that were developed by experts in the field of autism. Today over one hundred individuals from eight states and three countries have completed the comprehensive certificate ASD program through BGSU. This program is one example of how technology has broadened the outreach of educational preparation in ASD from local to national and international audiences.

This case describes the difficulties and successes encountered in a reengineering effort. A team of consultants undertook reengineering the delivery of compensation and benefits at a large quasi-governmental agency. Benefits included six programs which accounted for several time-intensive processes such as “cafeteria plan” options for individual and family health coverage, a health benefits open enrollment period where information is dispersed to assist employees in plan selection; thrift spending account; and retirement accounts.

In this paper, we consider the arithmetico-geometric process (AGP) repair model. Here, the system has two nonidentical component cold standby repairable system with one repairman. Under this study, component 1 has given priority in use. It is assumed that component 2 after repair is as good as new, whereas the component 1 follows AGP. Under these assumptions, by using AGP repair model, we present a replacement policy based on number of failures, [Formula: see text], of component 1 such that long-run expected reward per unit time is maximized. For this policy, system can be replaced when number of failure of the component 1 reaches to [Formula: see text]. Working time of the component 1 is AGP and it is stochastically decreasing whereas repair time of the component 1 is AGP which is stochastically increasing. The expression for long-run expected reward per unit time for a renewal cycle is derived and illustrated proposed policy with numerical examples by assuming Weibull distributed working time and repair time of the component 1. Also, proposed AGP repair model is compared with the geometric process repair model.
