ABSTRACTMaterial development does not operate as cause and effect in the perception of the quality of life of people and their sense of satisfaction, often settling like a paradox. Advances in social subjects contribute to realize their potential in search of the ultimate end of man, "his self". However, despite the favorable environment in the global, there are certain paradoxical tensions in this new context, focusing on the dynamics of social appropriation of the subject, moving between abundance and lack, freedom of action and risk, enjoyment and suffering, among many others. It seeks to explain the phenomenon of perception of quality of life and social inequalities associated with a plane that transcends the mere satisfaction of basic needs and their materiality, but also is linked to the relationship between demands and satisfaction or frustration of the deepest desires of the human being. Below is an approximation of the perceived quality of life from the particularity of three unequal populations together (according to measurements and objective indicators), from an ongoing investigation, where the first results allow us to approach the understanding of the relationship between: social inequality and quality of life.

This study aimed to check for any significant differences in perceived quality of life, specifically aspects of a physical nature, among volunteers who are more physically active and those less physically active in a university community. The sample consisted of 1,966 volunteers in a university community in Brazil. To assess physical activity levels, volunteers responded to the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), and to analyse the perception of quality of life they responded to WHOQOL-bref, which is classified into three groups according to level of physical activity, taking into account the metabolic equivalent index (MET) over a full week. For comparison, consideration was given to the first and third tertiles, respectively, namely groups of more and less active students. The results indicated that individuals who engaged in more physical activity had a more positive perception of quality of life compared to those who were less active in physical aspects related to the ability to work, energy for day-to-day activities and locomotion.

Abstract. The article describes and analyzes the results of a study carried out to investigate the relationship between physical-sports practice and perceived quality of life (QOL). The study sample was made up of a group of citizens (968), Primary Care patients, interviewed while they were in the waiting rooms of four Primary Care Centers (CAP) in the city of Terrassa. The objectives of the study were: 1) To evaluate the relationship between the perception of quality of life and physical-sports activity; 2) Verify if, in such perception, there are significant differences between men and women. The conclusions were as follows: There is a better perception of the quality of life among users who perform physical-sports activity than among sedentary patients, be it moderate or intense activity. Women who perform physical-sports activity improve their perception of Quality of Life to a greater degree than men. Women improve their CVP in the social sphere and men in the physical sphere, so sports practice is a source of women's socialization.

There is a growing body of literature exploring the general population’s use of social media for assistance in dealing with stigmatized health issues. This study presents novel research examining the relationship between social media use and young adults. It utilizes a therapeutic affordance (TA) framework. Quantitative results from this study are complemented by qualitative data. The relationships between distinct social media and their TA (a–b) are presented to highlight their potential to impact positively on social and emotional well-being outcomes. Evidence includes broad support for “connection,” “narration,” and “collaboration” TAs in this context and the relationship between the use of distinct social media and perceived quality of life (QOL) outcomes (a–c). TA provides an appropriate and valuable theoretical framework which is useful for the development of an evidence-base from the analysis of young adult’s social media usage. An analysis of the association between social media and their QOL outcomes is presented according to the TA relationship pathway (a–c–b). The adoption of a TA framework enables a nuanced analysis of significant associations between specific social media, TA, and improved QOL outcomes. This study demonstrates the significant association between social media and perceived QOL outcomes in young adults.

Epilepsy causes restrictions in the performance of various daily activities. The aiming of this study was to investigate whether these restrictions affect the perceived quality of life. The assessments Quality of Life in Epilepsy-31 (QOLIE-31) and Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) were applied in a sample that consisted of a single group of 34 subjects with at least two years of uncontrolled seizures. The results indicated that the most affected domains of QOLIE-31 were seizure worry, 29.77 (±21.72), and effects of drugs, 49.75 (±28.58), and for the COPM, the average of performance and satisfaction were respectively 3.10 (±3.07) and 4.45 (±3.29), and performance limitations most frequently cited were maintain employment (18), left home alone (15) and courses (15). The application of the Spearman correlation coefficient showed that the three main performance limitations posed by the COPM, especially regarding the level of satisfaction, influence the perception of quality of life. Thus, occupational performance proves to be an important area of intervention with subjects with epilepsy.

The present study evaluated the perceived quality of life of the mothers of street children and investigated the association with their history of childhood violence, the occurrence of current domestic violence, their current mental states and that of their children, and family functioning. The applied instruments were as follows: Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire, WorldSAFECore Questionnaire, Instrument for the Assessment of Quality of Life of the WHO, Global Assessment of Relational Functioning Scale, Childhood Trauma Questionnaire and a socio-demographic questionnaire. The sample of convenience consisted of 79 low-income mothers who raised their children alone, and most of whom had a positive screening for mental illness. The multiple regression analysis showed that the perception of quality of life of these women was associated with the presence of psychopathology either in themselves or their children and family dysfunction. Thus any program aimed at improving the quality of life of such mothers should consider addressing their mental problems as well as those of their children, besides offering educational and psychotherapeutic approaches to these families to improve the social environment

Body, subjectivity and health discourse: an essay for field professionals Abstract Aesthetic narratives are present in health practices and are accompanied by an emphasis on healthy eating and quality of life. But if we are driven to consume healthy ways of living, why do so many people feel increasingly sick? This essay discusses the production of this discourse in the field of health and the impacts of notions of health and food on current subjectivity. Health becomes synonymous with prevention, longevity and fitness. It has been used as a category of social normativity. There are power relations inherent to this concept of health, which generate hypochondria in the relationship between representations of health and illness. Consequently, we have a medicalization of bodies and a possible reissue of hygienism, authorized by the knowledge of medical specialties. All in the name of good health. Keywords: Health. Body. Introduction: Thyroid diseases, especially those that require surgical treatment, are an extremely strong emotional stimulus for the patient. They evoke not only anxiety disorders, but also in the case of complications (especially those long-lasting) can even generate depressive disorders, or significantly affect the patient’s self-esteem, and thus its functioning at the social level. Aim of the study: The objective of the study was to examine the quality of life of patients who underwent surgical treatment of total and subtotal thyroidectomy. Material and methods: The study was conducted in a group of 102 patients undergoing surgery at the General Surgery Ward of the Hospital. St. Łukasz in Tarnów in the period from December 2018 to April 2019, as well as residents of Małopolska, who had performed thyroidectomy. In research have been used ThyPROpl, VAS Scale, and self-prepared questionnaires. Results and conclusions: The most common complications of thyroidectomy were tingling and numbness around the mouth and limbs (42.2%). Patients who had symptoms of tetany had a reduced perception of quality of life and health, as well as the quality of life in all its areas. The respondents had a degraded, reduced quality of life in terms of the negative impact of the disease on life (62.01) and fatigue (56.23). The greater the intensity of pain, the lower the quality of life of patients after thyroidectomy. Conclusions. There is the relationship between the quality of life and the number of complications, as well as the severity of pain. This dependence is directly proportional.
